Drivers, tour operators upset after being turned away at Ocho Rios pier

Chaos erupted near the cruise terminus at the pier in Ocho Rios, St Ann as the Carnival Sunrise docked this morning (August 16, 2021). Angry taxi drivers voiced disapproval at being prevented by the police and private security personnel from picking up cruise passengers, even those who had pre-booked tours.

Too much talking people let's hit the road we the people need to come together ...how can we put change this government system...how can we get them to put some law in place for a government that doesn't have the people interest at heart we can vote them out immediately ànd carefully observe who can take on the challenge to run and lead this. They are all GREEN they didnt even left the country with an opposition to help to oppose some of the things. So they will have to fight the battle themselves. In fighting that battle there cant be any cowards and sell out because the government already have the rich on their side and the security force was implimented by the slave master do they serve them. That is why so many of them could be at one place to protect tourist and cant protect the citizens. Brogod do what you have to do they voted you in with great confidence . I remember that election day. My mother always say what sweet nanny goat a go run dem belly. Why are they complaining it wasnt the rich who place such confidence in the goverment in the election it was the poor risking their lives in Covid because they have confedence in their Brogad. Now only the rich a eat and the poor is left to eat the scrumb from their table. Poor people stop sell out your birth right for a plate of food.

The Minister of tourism should have had a meeting with those taxi men ! Then the taxi men could have told them , that their plan would not work and come to a mutual agreement with them so that they wouldn’t have to waste the time and service of 600 police men ! If they don’t have a dialogue with ordinary people the government plans and strategy will not work because all it’s going to do is create animosity and animosity only going to breed violence ! 🤔

I went to Montego Bay last week. It was a disappointment. Several in our group wanted to spend money with ALL the shop owners, especially JAMAICAN shop owners. We observed a process designed to give our JUTA driver a kickback for taking us to a certain shop. I encourage all travelers to Jamaica to limit their spending if their guides aren't informing them about ALL shopping options. We asked our driver to take us to other stores but he wouldn't. When my husband and I went to Ocho Rio, about 5 years ago we paid a taxi driver to take us to alternate places to shop

Yep they do get kickbacks it’s part of there contract I refuse to do tours I’m lucky I’ve been JA many times & know where to go & what to do…plus I pay residents rates as I have a JA passport..everyone who is a tourist pays $35 for Dunns river…I pay $5 oh the joys😂

That's bad, I'm a Jamaican who will be coming to Jamaica in Nov, I certainly will be using the local taxi drivers to take me around. Can the Police really tell tourists they can't talk to the taxi and bus drivers? Sounds like a dictatorship, maybe the minister of Tourism should be made to explain. After all, the people in the tourist industry had to do without income for over a year and a half, why try to stifle them now?

The cruise ships want the taxi drivers to be fully vaccinated. So if they arent fully vaccinated then thats the prob. If they are vaccinated then they take them to court. Im from St. Kitts and that's what's happening here but i think the taxi drivers are vaccinated they Minister of tourism here made it known thats what the cruise line wants. A ship was here last week. You'll taxi association needs to stand up to the government

This is just like DREAMS WEEKEND. Kamal was allowed to keep his 3 day party because he has connection in the government and also because he has linked up with the tourist board. While the not so fortunate Jamaicans were told no and some decided to break the law. The government don't want to admit that Dreams weekend is tone major reason for the spike in covid - 19 cases. The people know though and if they continue to operate like this, there's going to be anarchy soon, just like the ' Gas Riot'.. so let them continue. and i don't believe its going to be the not so fortunate that will be harmed. people are tired of this now.
