Great Video. Exactly representative of a commuting cyclist’s life in the UK. Personally I find a loud “passing on your right” does the trick with random swerving cyclists and pedestrians in the cycle lane. Stay safe 👊🏻
4:45 We have someone like that living in Letchworth. Happily waves his hands, hands-free cycling around while singing to himself. Madness, but at least he's happy. Kind of makes me happy seeing him still alive. xD
At 4.20, can anyone pls explain to me why the law allows vehicles to be parked on both sides? In my country, they switch side depending on odd/even number day. It may be inconvenient for some car owners on certain days but incident like the one in the video can be minimized.
I was in my truck coming to a stop at a 4-way stop, so I stopped then took off. A guy on a road bike to my right doesn’t stop and plows right thru the stop sign as I take off. I almost hit him so he gets pissed off at me, the one who didn’t break the law. Ridiculous!
Rule 79 of the highway code states cyclists must dismount and walk across crossings except zebra ones you seem keen to quote the highway code for others but not for you
@@justthink295 it's actually rule 79 moron, Rule 79 Do not ride across equestrian crossings, as they are for horse riders only. Do not ride across a pelican, puffin or zebra crossing. Dismount and wheel your cycle across. Rule 80 Toucan crossings. These are light-controlled crossings which allow cyclists and pedestrians to share crossing space and cross at the same time. They are push-button operated. Pedestrians and cyclists will see the green signal together. Cyclists are permitted to ride across. Maybe you should learn to read next time
I don’t know why I bother looking at the comments. It’s the same every time, car drivers complaining about something they don’t understand, complaining about someone else going through red lights, etc, etc. Oh, kinda like how you self righteous drivers go through red lights, get in everyone’s else’s way........cos you think the world revolves around you.......bloody car drivers. And yes, I drive a car too.
In fairness the "Professional" driver who you criticise was there before you arrived. He was trying to get out of that road and join the main carriageway. You want give and take. Well, practice a little give and take.
@@justthink295 So he isnt allowed to overtake you, just incase there's traffic or traffic lights ahead and you may catch up again? All traffic to stay behind cyclists.
The guy at 5:20 - is a nutcase who swerves at pedestrians who are "in the cycle lane" - in my instance, when I was walking to an exam and actually on the right side of the line, just. We bumped shoulders, he turned around and rode at me (I sidestepped and he went crashing to the floor). At least, I think it's the same chap...
Rule 167, DO NOT overtake when you would force another road user to swerve or slow down. Yes, so why did you overtake the cars and force the car to swerve as he was already overtaking cars before you go there. Cyclist need to apply the same rules as everyone else and not think they have right of way in every circumstance. Yes there were some instances, but that is the way it is and cyclist are no better than other road users, which is shown in this video
@@gregfcht910 don't apologise you are right Oxford is horrible, its full of knobheads on 4 and 2 wheels but mostly 2 footed zombies with head phones on while only looking at there screens
Cyclists are taxed. They pay council tax, income tax, VAT etc. I assume you could be referring to the mythical road tax, whicb was abolished in 1937, and is based on emissions so cycles are not required to pay it as are all zero emission vehicles.
@@gixxerman69 they are not zero emissions tho, they were made and if recycled emissions also, road tax each cycle, u want tracks pay for them separate, I too pay tax, I ride car and motorbike pay for both, u should pay for your use of roads and cycling tracks
@@davidbell8320 VED is charged on emissions of the vehicle whilst it is in use and not during its manufacture or decommissioning. Cycles and electric vehicles do not produce emissions during their use, therefore they are VED exempt. Road infrastructure is not funded from VED, it is funded from council tax and general taxation, which just about everyone UK citizen pays. Road tax was scrapped in 1937.
@@davidbell8320 bikes cause statistically zero deadly accidents each year, compared to thousands by cars. In fact cars cause so many deaths that even in the USA they kill more than guns. Cyclists all pay tax the same as you, hence we should have infrastructure to keep us separate from lunatic drivers. That would also stop you lot bitching and whining about cyclists all the time despite cars nearly always being the issue.
Racing bikes are shit, the brakes are rubbish and where the handlebars make you tuck down, you can’t see where you are going!!! Mountain bikes are lot better!!!!
@@justthink295 Good point. I lived in Oxford until very recently and the roads were a nightmare, if it wasn't traffic it was seemingly endless roadworks. I can totally understand why there are so many cyclists in the city, it's actually faster than driving or catching a bus in a lot of cases.
