I run Hankook Dynapro MT on my Troopie and Hankook Dynapro MT2's on my 80, my missus has Hankook Dynapro AT's on her car and they've been great

Falken Wildpeak AT3, awesome tyre on any terrain and especially on the wet road!! So far we've had 2 customers hit 120,000ks on them, average 100,000ks.

I run cheaper tyres because I spend a bit of time crawling through the bush on properties cutting firewood and spiking a tyre is a pretty common thing no matter the brand. I ran coopers on the family wagon once but never again, they wore well but all 4 delaminated with about half tread left on them and cooper didn't want to know about it.

Maxxis AT811 31s on my KZN165. Thinking I might get the same for my HDJ79 but in 33s when I save up enough to get it on the road. Done nearly 20k on them and had no complaints so far!

Most 4wd’s have BFG’s because it gives you automatic entry into the “club” Most never go off road Some honest reviews are very refreshing

I think a big part of the longevity that people forget is making sure you keep getting your tyres balanced, rotated, correct tyre inflation and wheel aligned regularly. I’ve used Coopers, Comforsers, BF’s Simexs and Gladiators the only real differences I can see in the cheaper Chinese brand is slightly harder compounds that give less traction in the wet whisk whilst on road and worse road noise. If you can handle those disadvantages then the price advantage makes it a close call in my opinion. Cheers Pat🇦🇺

4 years ago I bought a set of 2nd-hand Toyota OEM alloys wheels for my non-daily 80 Series. The rims came with near new GT Radial Adventuro A/T II. I've never had these tyres before, but figured, I'd keep using them for as long as they're legal, then replace them with my go-to 4WD tyres, the BF Goodrich A/T KO2. But 4 years and 40,000+ kms later, they still have plenty of tread left - they've been impressive. Having said that, I will replace them with the KO2s when it's time.

I run 33x12.5 15" rim Goodride Mud Legend's, over 50,000kms deep with a quarter tread left and have absolutely belted them + run them as low as 12PSI and they held up no worries every single trip

May I add you can get these cheap as - in 3 tread patterns and lots of sizes right up to 40's, not noisy, good on freeway, around town and go hard in the bush

I had Powertrac Power Rover M/Ts (same tread pattern as the Catchfors) on my Prado when I bought it, almost 3 years ago. I have only just replaced them and had almost done 90,000km, with a bit of tread to spare. I've now got the Windforce Catchfors M/T on. Less than $260 fitted. Amazing tyres, for the price, extremely capable.

My mate and I run Nankangs, I run their All terrain and he runs the mud terrain and we both love the tyres, they perform great off road, expel dirt and stones well and are quiet on the road, we have had zero problems

Nice one boys. I run the BFG AT KO2s. It's the tyre I've fitted after the OEM tyres needed replacing on all my 4WDs, past and present. And lIke Dan, I avoid mud as much as I can. Once mud gets into the engine bay, you cannot clean it, clean enough to get rid of mud stains no matter how much you try.

Yep, I've been running BFG T/As since the 90's. They make the best and toughest all-rounder and have done for decades. The KO2 is the latest generation which I'll be putting on my new vehicle when I've got some life out of the OEM H/Ts. (Interested in testing the H/Ts to their limits and don't really care if they get chewed up but they are great in sand or on broken or washed out tracks so far). I'll also add some basic physics here... footprint is NOT a function of the width of the tyres. That's probably controversial since the bogan off-roader brigade who barely passed high school Y12 physics will usually put the widest tyre they can get on their vehicle. Footprint is a function directly of tyre pressure and side wall stiffness. PSI is literally pounds per square inch and that relates directly to area required to hold the vehicle up. Once you understand that, you stop buying stupid tyres that cost the earth and overstress the steering and running gear. Better still, normal size (215 or 235) BFG's aren't much more expensive than stupidly wide Chinese tyres and might even fit on the factory rims. Win/Win/Win. You can make a case that larger diameters are better for rock climbing, and some (most?) of those are also stupidly wide also, but the bogan obsession with wide tyres is very misplaced. Just because it looks mean doesn't actually "mean" that it's the best thing for off-road. There *are* cases where I'd want a very tall and very wide tyre, but they are more of the exception rather than rule for 99% of off-roaders.

Hey boys, been watching your videos for about a year. First of all I love how you boys are budget freindly and realistic in real life situations. It shows you don't need big money for big performance. I reckon Toyo open country R/T are a great tyre for most weather conditions and they have a nice tough sidewall. My brother inlore did around 12000ks on em before he sold his 4b but they had about 85% tread left on em, more than a reasonable amount of tread. The only thing they lack which is important is in heavy rain they tend to slip a bit on roads. But it also depends were you live and if there dirt roads or paved roads. Cheers boys just my 2 cents

good tyre that's value for money and has 3 ply sidewalls as well as good road handling - Kenda Klever RT. had them for a few months now and couldn't be happier

How have you found them? I’ve got 265/65/17 Yokohama go15 on my rok and lost faith on them in the wet. Only done about 40000km on them and looking at the windforce as a next set

Great honest review gents. Had Maxxis Razrs on the 80 series, after 30,000km they were showing signs of wear. Excellent tyre, but also hard on the wallet. I'm on the lookout for new tyres for the new build so will keep these in mind.

Ran two sets of Goodride SL369 ATs on my old Jeep and have them absolute hell. Only issues I had was once when I put a screw through the tread which was plugged easy enough. They were a good all around 4x4 tyre that did everything I asked. As you note we haven't made tyres here for over 10 years. My 2016 Falcon came with Dunlops that said "Engineered in Europe Built in China" So basically, made in China tyres as OEM fitment on a locally built Ford.

I would be interested to read comments from anyone running these tyres or Budget Tyres up in places like the Pilbara & Kimberley's... Those places are extremely hard on tyres, even some of the better known brands have issues... So if you're planning on any trips into the WA/NT areas in the near future & are still running theses tyres, I would love to hear how the tyres went... I'm running the Falken Wildpeak ATW3 on one of my 4WD's and did a off-track navigating track across the northern Simpson and had no issues. On my other 4WD, I'm running the 235/85/16 Goodride A/T budget tyre for the past 33k kms and to date they have been fine. Obviously no good in mud, but fine in most other conditions I've driven BTW... Great Vid ;)

i had the falken wildpeak at3w (worth mentioning i had the cheaper 4ply ones cheaper than even the windforce) and they performed amaazing in mud, sand and wet roads. Also the higher end version is what he's mentioning from falken, which is in fact an LT 10 ply

I was running maxxis bighorn for nearly 80000kms on my 100 series. I’ve just changed over to a set of falken willpeak all terrains because I do a lot more touring and towing these days now I have a family

Nice Ep , I been running Chinese A/Ts tires on my 80 series for 8 years and done 263,000ks on them, done 8 trips to Cape York towing a van or 5m tiinny. and been all other many States, get 50 to 80,000ks out of them never had a flat tire,

Currently fitting out a 95 series Prado and purchasing a second spare tire has been on the forefront of my mind for the more remote trips in the outback. Good to hear a spare, or even future main tires could be affordable and still be trusted

I've just done a lap of Aus with BFG Ko2's in my 95 Prado and I don't know what size tyres you want to put on, but there was tyres galore. Even in the outback. 265/75/R16 is super common and most people would be able to help you out. Get a good set of tyres and save the weight of a 2nd spare for something better! Just my 2 cents anyway

Great review. Love your honesty. I personally run the falken wildpeak at3 on my Pajero. I got them at $249 ea on sale. Will definitely look at the mud terrains as a second set.

Love your mates comments in the GQ ute about not needing mud tyres. ATs are fine for pretty much anything other than heavy mud work. Which is not that often.

Depends on where you live. In Victoria most of those forest trails NEVER dry out, before they get a chance to there's more rain. If you live in Qld or WA then you're probably better off with an aggressive all terrain or even a standard all terrain pattern.

We run the Maxis AT's on our JK. Can't fault them. Quiet on the road. Good side lugs. Have performed really well in all conditions and terrains.

The thing with a muddy is that it can drive on the road just fine, but an all terrain just straight is useless in mud. I just switched from a muddy to at and found no difference in the fuel eco. Noise is hard to determine, all tyres are silent from new while treads still soft and get loud as they age . The mud I drive isn't big holes, more so slick churned up rutted tracks.

That was a good honest review which I really enjoy from you fellas, I wouldn't say it was a glittering review of the tyres though, they have "done the job" but are what they are, which is fine for a budget tyre. I get the impression a good RT tyre might be more suited to the driving you all do, except maybe Dan who really only needs an AT but even then it doesn't seem to offer him the traction required in some situations. If Windforce aren't providing the next set and you are thinking of changing then investigate what's available in the RT market, there's some excellent product available now which means you're not stuck comparing AT vs MT, the RT option is better across a wider variety of driving scenarios.

I remember being on my P plates and being frustrated not even being able to afford 4 tyres all the same brand, so I told myself back then "when I get a better paying job, no more being a cheap ass on tyres and brakes" Currently running Hankook Dynapro MT2's on a Triton - they're fantastic in mud, really good at 20psi. Running Goodyear Wrangler MTR Kevlar on my Landcruiser, quiet, balance better than the Hankooks. Pretty happy with both. I'd like to give the Yoko XMT G005s a go when the Wranglers are due for replacing.

Goodride sl386 3 ply were $208 for 265/75/16 around 250$ now. Had them for over 50k on 2 cars. Been everywhere on them only use them for off-road trips I have 2 sets of tyres. 1 on 1 off road. Will buy them again

I run the Habilead Eleve AT5 on my Pajero Sport. So far, they have travelled about 60,000+ kms. They are I would say "road biased" All-Terrain but I have driven them on mud, river, gravel, corrugations and obviously sealed roads. I reckon I still have about 10,000 left of tread on it. They were terrible on the wets when they were new but once they started to wear down they became more grippy. Would I buy them (or other cheap Chinese) tyres again? I r would have to say yes. At the end of the day, you are paying for market costs on the more expensive and named brands. You will also find a number of cheap tyres will have close to similar tread pattern as the expensive ones. So yes, I'd go back to the cheap branded tyres.

I ended up getting some catchfors when I bought my car, dealer put them on the rear wheels when I bought it and figured I'd complete the set for only and extra $300, planning on upgrading to BFG K02's when they wear out, although have heard they're starting to get a bit dated and expensive

maxxis razr at811s are also a fantastic all terrain, 3 ply sidewall with thick sidewall lugs and they do pretty well in mud, unless it gets stupid muddy. Also mad quiet on the road.

A/a. Better option concerning every vehicle is which brand of tyres are made in plus sizes for each 4wd rig ! "Procomp" is preferred for Nissan's with their specific sizes Stateside and BFG's give Toyota's several 33" tall rubber for our trucks mista ? V.

I currently run the BFG km3 muddies as I found A/T to be horrendous in the wet and the 10% of the time that I’m off-road or in the mud makes it worthwhile spending extra if it means I’m going to be safer and potentially do less damage which could cost way more. Also the muddies are way quieter than the A/T from BFG.

Great info guys. Not many people giving an in depth, honest review of cheap/budget tyres. Good to see. Another good budget option Liam might want to look into as an upgrade, is Kenda, they have the Klevar AT2 (which I run, and they've been fantastic) and they do the Klevar RT, which a friend had on his previous rig and loved. Both are very good quality, very affordable options that have proven themselves to perform in my experience......also, not affiliated with Kenda, just love an underdog product.

I splashed out many many years ago and got Parelli tyres on the 4x4 and out of the blue had a near miss fatal only saved by the tyres that pulled the 4b up with the family in too. Worth the money for safety but a bit soft

Good video and review, fellas. Presently running a set of Westlake A/T on my old Rodeo. My driving is 95% highway and these have done around 50k with zero issues. I may go to a set of Toyo’s next time around as I’m hearing good reports about them. Or I may just buy a set of Westlakes again. I really can’t fault them.

If you get the Falken Wildpeak all terrains there are two options light truck and SUV if you buy the Light Truck version they certainly do have 3 ply construction.

I have dynapro 285/75/16 had them for around 60k rotated and balanced every 10k and they are in good condition still 285/75/16 AT around $350each definitely recommend

Had cheap muddies on my Hilux for ages, biggest thing I noticed was grip in the wet. The cheap muddies were terrible for cornering in the wet aswell as hard braking. Changed to a Falken wild peak ATs and I will never go back. I have double the grip than before, no more locking up under heavy braking. Can't put a price on safety especially when I'm loaded up

Another great vid guys, have worked in a tire store were they sold Chinese brands, the quality of the tires were pretty much the same as the bigger brands. The only difference i had noticed was most of the big brands you pay a lot extra for the brand name.

I've had a set of these mud tires since 2016. a little bit dated these days and I wish the siping went deeper. I noticed it as it starts to wear.

Legit this guys live in same area as me there advice and opinions actually matter for those. I see so many new cruisers come in me work shop with just m/t. I asked owners all they majority of the time, is they look cool mainly. buying comforsers m/t on a budget On a GQ Both sets new 33/12.5/15 good all road for me 33/12.5/17 good off road but do wear and tear easier and rims buckle easier. Honestly I try different brand later on like on my project NG pajero running KM3 A/T I'd run them on gq (and yes it's a daily) For those who live in Victoria

Ive run the BF goodrich a.ts. terrible in the mud but strong and decent all rounder. Currently run hankook dyna pro's. So far so good. At the time they were $250 a corner on a deal buy 3 get the 4th free. Plenty of life left in them. Not too sure how many ks ive done with them. Would be around 30k for sure.

Get some BFG KO2 A/T and actually get to wear them out. Not have to change them due to blow outs. On my 5th set now. 25years in owning a 80in the North West.

We fit all our tyres at home by hand it surprises me the falken at3w only has a 2 ply sidewall because of how tough they were to fit😂

Since moving into a dedicated off-road rig, I run bias ply Narrow SS Super Swampers 34x9.50 15s on custom 5.5" beadlocks. Suck rotten eggs on the tarmac, questionable in deep sand (even @ 8 psi), kick azz in mud and heavy rock. Cheers from the States 🚙

I'm running the good ride M/T 265/70/17 on 09 Triton with the centre diff lock system they seem very unstoppable of road and up hill rocky slopes and threw not to deep of mud holes and wash outs they sell for around 250 each...... time will tell on how many kms they last ....owned a 60 series Landcruiser in the past running the coopers discovery's wouldn't recommend them at all only lasted about 45kms also ran maxis brand as well they didnt last as well with soft compound's

I've had dynapro AT's in the past, great tyre but recently in Adelaide the 3 month wait for dynapro's pushed me towards Bridgestone Duelers. now I'll be able to make a comparison but still wish the dynapro' s were available.

Great video. So many people knock the cheaper tyres but they can be just as good as some of the more expensive ones. The AT version looks to be the same as the BF Goodrich AT which makes me wonder do they do like Bridgestone and sell their product to cheaper names. I know Bridgestone sell their last model Dualer to Bob Jane under the name JTrax, maybe this is a similar thing. Ive run the JTrax AT's for about 3 years now and they have been great on & off road. ALso love that you advise people to actually think about how they use their vehicles before selecting a style. So many rigs running MT's in NSW but rarely leave the black top.

Impossible since the brand name is imprinted on the tyres. You need separate moulds to do that.

@user-sp4gy7ko5l well yeah obviously something needs to happen there but do we know exactly how they do that? Maybe they just insert a plate into the mould with the brand name. I have spoken with reps from Bridgestone and they have told me the Jtrax tyres are made by Bridgestone with the old Dualer design and compounds.

I'd run those tyres before BFG's, my 80 had KO2's on when I got it and they were terrible especially in the wet

I have aplus MT A929 which have same tread as lanvigator in this video. They are fine but so loud. I wouldnt recommend mts if you only use them once in a while. So much noise, its just not worth it. They are 121Q, I think, and very stif, forget comfy terrain offroading. It shakes everyhing even on 2 bars. If you mainy drive on road just go for AT of any kind. I still have a929 but getting back to at is heavenly. Do what you think is the best for you. Its just my opinion.

i run on comforser cf3000 mts on my lux in a 33x12.5x15 $175 a tyre and i’ve put 15000 ks on the love the tyres they’ve copped a flogging around lithgows tracks 👌 would buy Chinese tyres everyday of the week over some of the top brands

How do you find them on the road in the wet? I have them on my Triton and while they are better than the ruined Mickey Thompsons I had on before they get a bit loose in the wet for me.

Liam, I hear ya on the COOPER Discoverer S / T MAXX 236/75R16.. Mine were worn out & useless off road & dangerous on the road in the wet at 45,000k's, rotated every 5K. COOPERS 80,000K guarantee is hopeful at best, plus they require a wheel alignment every 20,000k's to claim on it. i went to TOYO Open country ATII 10 ply & never looked back.

I only got 36000KM out of my Cooper S/T Maxx tyres. Terrible in the wet. I had a wheel alignment done every 7000km - 10000km and they still didn't give any warranty. Cooper Tyres rep had a good look at the ute, gave it a test drive and didn't fault anything! Never getting Coopers again!

Some BFGs are now made in China (as well as the US). I believe most of what we get in Australia are still sourced from the US. But a well known discount tyre reseller source their BFGs from China - hence they're priced much lower than the rest. But most other resellers still source their BFGs from the US. If interested in getting a set of BFGs, just ask your reseller where they source their BFGs from before buying. Plus the tyre itself should have it moulded on it, from which country they are made (US or China).

I run the nexen roadian m/ts on my gu patrol and they are beautiful, very little road noise which surprised me with having a set of 33s on a big car.

Me personally don't buy anything made in China were possible. But like you said most of the stuff comes out of the same factory. Just they brand it differently. But any tyre can be staked just as easy so there lays the conundrum

Started my off roading on Bridgestone desert duellers in the early 80' on my Hilux. Okay in their day, punctured easily though. I then went BFG all terrain in the 90's on our Jackaroo and stayed with both BFG A/T's and Jackaroo's through to 2010. Later model Jackaroo's with better brakes and greater torque showed the flaws up in wet conditions of the A/T's, grip in the wet on bitumen, it was poor. 2010 I removed my A/T's to fit Muddies for a trip to the Cape. BFG stocks for some reason was appalling at the time, so went with Maxxis Big Horn. These things were noisy, like real harmonic noisy and it was a long drive to the Cape as a consequence, but they certainly had grip. Popped one off the rim exiting the Wenlock on the Frenchman's Track and as a result the alloy rim was shattered, but the tyre was still good. Unfortunately their life was shortened when I cut a side wall as I couldn't see the sense in buying a replacement when we hated the road noise. We now opted for BFG Muddies and have never run anything else since. They have far better road manners and grip so much better than the BFG A/T on all surface, even bitumen and only become noisy when tread is well down. We have never experienced a puncture with BFG KM-2 Muddies. Ran them on the Jackaroo's, 76 series ( poor excuse for a 4WD, thankfully improved greatly by BFG's) and now our Y61 Patrol, updating to the new style KM-3 in 2018 which we replaced after last year's Cape trip with another new set this year as they were extremely cut up between blocks of tread from stones but never one puncture since using BFG Muddies since 2011. Pricing wise, in March this year Bob Jane fitted and balanced my 265/75R16 KM-3's for $339 each so I'm guessing your supplier doesn't really want to offer BFG at comparable prices, he's pretty rich for BFG's aside from being 285's My son just purchased a new set of Maxxis Muddies for his 2021 Prado. His partner drove the car and refused to tolerate the road noise, so guess Maxxis haven't changed much. They opted to fit A/T's in an arrangement with supplier, have heard no complaints this far. BFG Muddies need constant rotation and rebalancing, BUT I happily accept this for their reliable grip on any surface. Personally, their life is not great, KM-3's only offered 50k between 5 tyres rotated, but I remove tyres with tread others happily run, I want maximum grip anytime.
