Brings back great memories... I had a '66 GT 390 my senior year in high school... didn't even know how to drive a stick shift when I bought this bad ass hot rod LOL
I have a 66 Fairlane with a 289, and a couple of 66 Merurcy Comet Cyclones w/ 390s. These are such GREAT CARS with great styling and unique looks. Thanks for taking the time to make this video and taking care of your awesome 390, 4 speed beast!
That was VERY entertaining. That guy could be one of my motorhead buddies. I'm a MoPar guy but BIG RESPECT to someone who clearly loves their Ford, and she's a beauty, too.
Always thought the 66-67 Fairlanes were the best looking muscle cars of that era; got to drive a '67 with a newer 428 and c6 automatic and it flat out scared the hell out of me!
My dad ordered a '67, was drafted, when it came in (late) he was already gone... dealer sold it to someone else.... bought a '69 when he came home... but really wanted a '67
My dream car! love the 1966-67 Fairlanes. a friend of mine had a 67 fairlane, yellow/ black vinyl top, black interior. it had a 289 2 barrel and automatic. very nice car. He hated giving me rides because i tended to drool on the interior lol. this is a nice car too and i thank you from bringing the video to us.
When I was younger (and poorer)I had a 1966 Candy apple red Fairlane GTA and it needed a major restoration so I let it go...fast foward to present and I would kill to have it back!!
I feel you! Same here (was poor) had a 1967 500 XL original 390 but had been replaced by a 289. It needed restoring and it was only 20 years old at the time! Lol
Wunderschönes Auto, RESPEKT ! Was mich nur wundert, das er mit Zwischengas schaltet . Der Sound ist echt genial, die Innenaustattung ist superb, und der Fahrer lustig !
That is what a muscle car should sound like. My 2005 Lincoln LS is louder than the 2015 Challenger my neighbor had repossessed. I love the sound of old American muscle.
My favorite car . I have a 55 fairlane with a 406 / 4 speed " Chevy Smacker " . Its a super fun hub capped sleeper but I still want a 66 fairlane gt 390/ 4 speed
I had one the same color back in the day. With some love, that car will PIN YOU to the seat ... BIG TIME. Enjoy that beautiful car !!! Sure makes me want my old one back ....
Taking it easy on the antique u-joints that sounded like they were ready to 'splode. Next video I do I'll bang the gears, so I can do a gettin' my old car towed vid.
don't you know you need to do what these millennials do. you get in the car, beat the snot out of it, break things and then sit on the side of the road tryin to act as if you are still cool as you wait for the tow truck lol
I had a 67 GTA 390 about 45 years ago & loved it. I now have a 67 tbird tudor 390 & have enjoyed it now for maybe 33-35 years. Love old cars no matter who made them
My husband is restoring one right now right down to the frame. All original matched numbers on all parts and is restoring the color to the original Candy Apple Red. It is a 1966 Fairlane GT 390 and are we ever happy and looking forward to driving it. It was an Arizona car but the prior owner that purchased it was in Oregon. Only one very small rust spot the rest of it was amazingly in great shape. It will definitely be a driver. No trailer queen this time lol.
Fairlane GT was a very respectable performer in the day and still are. Stick a decent high rise aluminum dual plane intake and an old fashioned R3310 780 cam vacuum secondary Holley dual feed 4-barrel carb and some decent long tube headers and you have an honest ass kicker!
Just a great film to watch. My friend had the 4-door version with an auto box and whatever engine it had in it, it would roar like a beast and shift that heavy old car like it was made of balsa wood !! I remember seeing these cars in 'The Invaders' too -from the '60's. =NICE !!
We had to sell it last month because I lost my job. It sold quickly (thank god). I hope to find another or a sweet '66 like you have. Original cars are the BEST! Thanks for posting and God Bless!
Sounds just like my 65 GTO i found in storage, muffler shop with original exhaust & the purrrr is back. Lucky us, o'l school still strong. Beautiful Ford, Sir.
I had a 1966 Fairlane with a 428 SCJ with 507hp two four barrels top loader trans and Detroit locker rear end with 3.90 :1 Frame connectors. That car was an animal
i love this man saying original AMERICAN chrome....original AMERICAN (something)...a real american man!!! i am italian ,but i feel american...so W USA!!!! i love you all american guys
Great compliment. Thanks. I was just a kid when they were cranking these babies out of Detroit, Michigan. I guess you've heard or read about our gas mileage and smog requirements our government put on our automakers in the '70's that all but killed it for everybody who loved American cars. What a shame. BTW, I'm a big admirer of Italian clothes AND cars!
What a great car and demonstration, I would love to hear this with the exhaust looked after; congratulations....it took me 35 years to get my Mustang GT.....
im 16 teen and my dad and I own a 1966 ford fairlane GT 390 4spd hardtop, i want it so bad it needs a minor restoration but i really cant wait to get it!
I built my 390 with primarily factory parts. I put headers, a solid cam very close to the 428CJ hydraulic. C cam for NHRA CStock and 410 hp 427. And a Holley Street Dominator with a 750 Holley 3310. It’s still an animal and I. built it 20 years ago and it is still like new. Open Headers will make 496 hp 463 ft lbs. That is with home ported 352 heads with 2.06 intake and 1.58 exhaust valves, I have a C6 and 4.33 locker gears and you can peg it to 6500 in a heartbeat, and I used to wind it to 7000, but I am blind now and can’t drive and my son won’t wind it that high. It is in a 1965 Galaxie 2 dr HT and it rides and handles like it’s on rails.
I had a 76 ford pickup with a 390 out of a 67 mustang GT put headers with duals and a torquer cam and that thing ran really good and I shifted it the same way you do just because I liked to shift that way, I could start out in 3rd even on a little bit of a hill 4: 10 gears and a 4 spd, your car is very cool and I love the sound.
Thanks for posting this great vid, i have one of these in Australia and am looking to start the resto after new years. please post any update vids i'll be sure to check them out.
I had a 66 GT, rebuilt the engine went 40 over and balanced, would red line at 7000, Man that car was sweet. It was white and my little girls called it White lightning. That car would just fly and you couldn't start out and NOT chirp the tires. My oldest girl conned me into letting her take it to school one day. Found out she scared the bejeebers out of this kid when she laid rubber all the way across the parking lot. I laughed when I found out and was proud she could go throught the gears so well. Wife made me sell it because of such chicanery, now she says she wishes I had kept it. Me Too.
This looks like a car I use to own. I sold it in 1968 in Tucson. I had put cut outs on exhaust. Sound like this when open. Mine had wooden steering wheel.
+MrBreeze I bought a '66 GTA in 1969 from a Ford mechanic. Boy, did that thing burn up tires. Drafted in 1970, my younger brother wrecked it while I was in Vn.
Last year we would take our '65 Comet Cyclone original white 4 speed car to the local cruise in. Had a new drivetrain but the paint was all faded and the interior was a little rough. I put a set of 15" magnums on it with nice tires and that car would draw a bigger crowd than some of the big money cars. We loved it and so did a lot of other people. You're right when you say they are only original once.
So many people are critical, at least he takes it out and runs it, unlike so many that start the engine and leave us hanging. Nice car I would love to have it.
Yes, originals are a lotta fun - and you never have to worry about gettin' a rock chip... Hope you keep enjoyin' that Cyclone - that's a very cool car you have!
I too, almost had one of these as my first car. I ended up with a 69 Valiant with an auto and a 6. I was disappointed and even more so when the Valiant blew up and I got a 305 Caprice. Cool car.
