Beautiful video! As a kid in the early 80s I remember we had an Ami 8, same model and colour as this. The engine note is all gorgeous and chirrupy, damn-near sounds biological 😍 If any car is apt to make you believe it has a soul, this would likely be near the top of anyone's list. Cars once had character, and cars like this absolutely oozed it.
j'adore old french cars , I mean I had so many cars in my life but two months ago I finally bought my first Renault 4 for 300 euros, I never enjoyed so much driving car like now, its hillarious , I cant wait to get up in the morning only coz of driving my car , I go fishing almost every day , its pure joy my life now, I took out back seats , fuck off back seats , I dont need them , I got so much space now for my fishing equipment
Thanks! You has this engine like a mopeds, keep the rpm high. High reving can't damage this engine, it was made to be driven at full rpm for hours and hours. GET ONE! :)
This is so my kind of classic car. Wonderful - I'm nostalgic for when I used to own an Ami 8 Estate... and the bodywork on mine was in great order - until a crash on the A3 after tuning a piano... c'est la vie!
I am 37 years old and does not hear or 30 saw such a gorgeous car, this car was the first car my father had. that childhood !!!! jonas thousand thanks and retro never dies. hugs and greetings. great video
nice.. my father had a Ami8 Break dark green, early 70's. I remember it vaguely... only the shape of the instrument panel and circular handles for opening on doors... great little engine for an spacious car. anyway...the old citroen are all beautiful! Greetings from Italy and good 2014
Piece of Art.. .i owned one from 2010 till 2013..... Never fail ,a turn on the key and engine was like a Swiss clock. Then i have a Citroen Bx and now a Citroen C4.....once you drive a Citroen You don't wanna drive.anything else. Even Rolls Royce ride on citroen designed pattern suspention system .
(At 5:45) The license plate lightning turns itself off when the tailgate is opened and lights up again the when it is closed. Pretty impressive engineering over 50 years ago!
I had the same car from 1980 to 1987..AFTER 158000 km….i send it…...it was a very good car..to go at work every day...all my car are Citroen...now a Berlingo..!
Macchina molto generosa.
oh my god, I recognise the noise! It's been like 30 years since I last heard it... my grandma used to have one. could it be that this carr is noiser than it is heard in this video, or that the particular car in the video has been modified to have less noise?
Sorry, but I can't understand a word you're saying David Gonzalez. Why I didin't put the seat belt on is beacuse I forgot and in a crash in the car I would die instant. No matter the seatbelt;) The A-models of Citroen is unsafe at any speed.
I don't think you owe an explanation to anyone. It's your video, your car, your body and you can do what you wish, there are too damn many safety nannies and officious grannies in this world! Everyone is responsible for themselves, even socialist ilbertards.
Used to go everywhere in my Ami estate even turkey. Never worried about it breaking down ! After 150,00 miles the floor and sills went . Wished I,d looked after it now and not just regarded it as a set of car keys !
Sweet video. My parents had one. Lovely sounds. But I'm affraid you were driving headlights full on ;-)) It's funny to see swedish people driving old french cars as I'm french and drive old swedish cars . Good fun !
No, it is not. Think of a normal stick shift sitting between the front wheels, and aving a slider-stick to operate it. And regard how it is running straight forward with no need to correct the track. You can even do your hair when accelerating in a bend.
@@jamiecinder9412 I have been driving, repairing and restoring 2CVs for years - I think I still can tell you which wrench you need for which screw when you wake me up in the middle of the night. ;o) Many details were done extraordinarily well, others were a pain. The muffler never was really air-tight, and there were body parts that collected water in order to rust. But it would drive in extreme weather conditions. Starting at mid-winter in the high Alps (about -20°C / -5°F)? No problem. Driving on snow and ice? No problem. Winter tires improved the task uphill. And everything is smooth to operate. No power steering, but perfect geometry. And so on. I really lovet these things.
@@akronymus The 2CV is definitely a beautiful car in terms of simplicity and practicality. I WISH cars of today were as simple and practical as those or the VW Beetle and such. You used to be able to buy one and keep it on the road forever with nothing more than a basic tool kit.
@@jamiecinder9412 Yes and no. The engines mostly died at 80000 km (50000 miles), and you could watch the cheap recycling steel (mixed with copper, aluminum, and lead) rusting from inside to outside. And some parts were just too weak. The electric system was a shame. Cables rubbing open on sharp parts, and many not even fused. Not so funny to see the engine room burn.
How did you get the camera show the suspension movements? Did a person in the back seat hold it? It looks great because the movements of the car really come across nicely this way! Much better than a camera that is firmly connected to the car.
Sorry for the question, but i am really new into the oldtimer stuff and especially the "french" way of driving: I am not quite sure and the informations found on the internet are also not very specific, but does the ami also have a hydropneumatic suspension system, or a common one? Thx for the reply and have a nice weekend...^^
Great simple car, no hoping the Turbo will kick in, no having to remember what gear it's in, if Turbo was needed....easy pull the rubber matting away, stick your feet through the holes in the floor and run like hell like Fred Flintstone used to do 😂🤣😎 only jocking, honest!!!
