Driving Around The North End Of Bridgeport CT. So much has changed. A lot old of businesses closed. Let me know in the comments what you notice that has changed .....
Over here binge watching you videos man. I was born and raised in BPT. Grew up in the 80s in the Greene Apts. Went down a ton of memories with your videos! Appreciate you time man.
I was stationed in Bridgeport as a Marine Corps Recruiter in the late 80’s and early 90’s. I had all of Fairfield County but my main office was on Main Street next to a carpet store that used to be the old Merritt Theater. I remember that in order to find my way around I had to use a laminated Atlas Street map for about 6 months. I knew Bridgeport and most of the county like the back of my hand but try as I might, nothing looked familiar to me. I’ve since retired and wanted to take a trip up there but no need to now. Thank you so much for the tour. It brought a big smile to my face. By the way, I loved the music! I need to get that playlist one day 😁
That marine recruitment was next to my house, we played basketball and football n side of that recruitment center all the time, with some of the military recruiters
Thank you for this! I moved away from Bridgeport many decades ago and although things have changed quite a bit, there's still a lot I recognize. I used to live on Ruth St. and would take the Madison Ave. bus to school (Central High), but would walk home after school. It didn't seem like such a long walk when I was younger!
spent a lot of time in Bridgeport growing up in the 80s. Both grandparents were from there and my dad moved back there after my parents got divorced.. lots of memories there. My grandma on my dads side lived in the brick apartments just past ST. V's.. I remember the 3 door restaurant. saw Dragones old shop gone.. McDonalds on main gone. My dads car got stolen while we were in Merrit theatre on main watching "House of Wax" in 3d back in the 80s. My other grandparents lived on Connecticut Ave when i was growing up.. spent a lot of time there too. im rambling. thanks for the ride!
McDonald's on Main St. is still there. In fact they bought and tore down the house next door and expanded. And the former DQ next door is called Bridgeport Creamery, installed a lot of outdoor seating and is very popular.
I grew up most of my years on the North End in the 90's. Thank you for making this. It brings back so many memories. Currently living in Nor Cali...I'm dying to go back and show my wife and child my come up arena. Thanks again!
Great series of videos! In the tradition of Cosmo Kramer's reality tour, here is the Paul Romsky reality tour. At 4:42 on the right was Frances P. Dunagun Elementray School. I went to 2nd and 3rd grade there from 1970 to 1972. I am not sure what it is now, it was a mental heath clinic at one time. Across the street on the left is Cherry Hill Drive, back then it was Madison Garden Apartments. I lived at 46 Cherry Hill Drive Apartment 1A, the turn for that is at 4:58. We had a large inground pool for the tenants, it is gone now. There is also a small field on the campus. There is also a small cliff next to it with some woods behind it. It was a great area for a 7 year old. It become condominiums after I left. A bit down the road on the left past the light at 5:21 was not a supermarket back then. I think it was an open field or maybe houses. The little strip mall on the left at 6:37 is still there! A little worn for wear but it was the closest corner store for candy and soda. OMG! At 9:44 on the right is Pizza Time (we called it "Pizza Times" for fun) it is still there (if it is the original) they had huge 24 inch New York City style pizzas, they were very good, people would come from all over for a pie. At 10:16 on the left was one of the first Subway sandwich shops (it might have been their 2nd location). Back then Subways were always on a corner, I thought it was a business model. At 22:52 on the left, the building that says Bar-B-Q on it is Drumstick Chicken. Excellent Fried Chicken. The diner on the left at 23:38, It might have been the Galaxy Diner back then too, we would stop there often in the early 80's after hitting the Agora Ballroom club in New Haven. Twisted Sister played there many times when they were the true "bad boys of rock and roll", they would pick fights with preppies in the audience, broken glass and blood all over the area in front of the stage - before their toned way down MTV appearances. The Merritt Canteen is on the left at 23:52, it was a drive-in diner back then, I think it is sit down now.
This one is my fav since this is my old neighborhood! Can't believe Stop and Shop is now abandoned! I remember when it was just built. Testo's Restaurant replaced the old 3 Door. I lived on Westfield between Main and Waine Streets. Is Tartaglia's still on Madison? Wow nice to see Chavez Bakery still there. We used to get fresh hot Portuguese rolls sometimes if we were still up in the wee hours of the am. They'd bake them overnight and you could go in and buy them if someone answered the door. Best rolls around. My family owned City News and Deli on East Main Street by Beardsley Park in the 80's/ 90's and Chavez used to deliver to us. So sad that Pacelli's Bakery is no longer across from the jail. Looks like a hair cutter now? Dad, bro and I used to stop there after Sunday Mass at St. Patrick's and get some long bread to bring home for the gravy mom was cooking for dinner. The ends always used to be totally gone by the time we got home haha. Is the New Colony Diner still there or did it close?
I have to take a ride and see whats still there. Bridgeport changes so fast. I been posting videos on here since 2009 and every year or 2 it changes a lot.
There was a Pathmark grocery store, went there all the time. Taking the bus to the Trumbull mall with my mom. I miss Dunkin Donuts, (there's only 1 remaining in Michigan now). Is Fresononne's Deli still around? Excellent sharing.
It’s a nice and affordable place to live if you can swing the commute depending on where you work. I owed a 2 family rental property there that I bought in 2004 that I later sold in 2020. Had some good neighbors there who always looked out for me or helped my tenants out with minor repairs in the house. Now I’m in East Norwalk thanks to the equity from that sale. I love the North End. I probably would have considered staying but the public schools are terrible there unfortunately.
Pizza time on Madison ave has been gone for years, Jimmy's on main st, the whole shopping center on main st where stop and shop is, all different stores now from 80's ( McCrory's, crazy Eddie's,etc...) Marshall's used to be a bowling alley back in the day, jennies pizza on main st is gone...so many changes and that's just a few.
Captains Pizza Permently closed??? Is the one on Boston Ave. still open? Is Drumstick Chicken still there? I really miss home. I was raised on the North End around Old Town Rd. near the Bpt/Trumbull line. Great growing up there in the 70s and 80s.
Yes, Captain's on main street is closed permanently. Boston ave still open..not for long. Drumstick is still there but it's not good anymore. i miss the way it was here in the 70s and 80s.
Didn't recognize anything until you got till 9 minutes on the video you changed your music, where's the bass lol and 267 videos views another good video keep it up thanks

@@carmenreina5256 Do you mean your son and grandson never forgot or do you know anything about 39 Clearview Drive being haunted? Please respond - thanks!
You do know that the "NOTH END",STARTS AT "MAIN ST. AND CAPITAL AVE". AND "HARREL" AVE. IS IN THE "HOLLOW". I JUST THINK YOU SHOULD HAVE ENTTILED THE VIDEO AS "DRIVING AROUND MY OLD CITY OF "BRIDGEPORT CT."
@@AryLand1975 Well good old "GOOGLE" has been wrong before. But being born and raised in the "NORTH" END some 80 years ago(and also being a "MAILMAN" in BRIDGEPORT for 35 years) I'll stand by my comment... NO offence...
@@AryLand1975 So your saying "GOOGLE" maps writes on there map of BRIDGEPORT CT. that "HARREL" Ave.(which is by JAMES ST.and GRAND ST. are in the NORTH END)...I'll do better then just look it up---Monday i'll go down to city hall and look at the city of "BRIDGEPORT CT." map(which by the way will also tell what section of the city any street is located)!!
@@osterclipper1 that map is also on the Bridgeport library website and other Bridgeport websites .. It's not only at city Hall.. It's all over the internet.. Google isn't the only map I looked up.. I was just making easier for you to find but you got stuck on the Google comment.. Also all the research I looked proves I'm right and also the 1000s of comments from other sites I posted this video, also back my route..
