At 2:57 that taxi driver is doing that absolutely deliberately. With a street like that, when have you EVER seen multiple lanes turning in the same direction. Also, passing from the nearside like that means you are way harder to see both by the car in the correct lane (his chassis blocks his view) and by oncoming traffic (his chassis blocks their view). A taxi driver should know the roads and be able to reroute if they make a mistake - this driver is a disgrace.
@R0ssMM

There's a road near me where people always do this, and it's intentional. Really the wheelchair user in principle is no more of a hazard to himself or other road users than any cyclist, the only difference is that steering is by skid steer and propulsion by hands. What is disconcerting/strange is that he is using the road rather than the footpath, which is probably understandable given all the obstacles encountered on the pavement when using a wheelchair. I think the wheelchair user has real confidence in his own abilities and not in anyone else.

The bus driver also saw this and beeped his horn as we crossed to alert us and we stopped to look at him. The motorbike driver seemed to be oblivious and zoomed passed us. @@mhd5826 Recently a motorcyclist lost his life around here because he thought it'd be smart to do a full speed overtake on a van making a turn at an intersection, on the inside line of that turn. Could the van driver have seen him in the mirrors? Yes, but having lined up properly right next to the kerb, no one would expect an undercut there at that speed. Vulnerable participants should be additionally aware and mindful of where they're going. And anticipate others don't see them or expect illegal overtakes like the one from the example above.

3:24 I know that you're a professional, and I respect your knowledge and experience and agree that if the car recording this clip had held back one car length this wouldn't have happened, but at the same time I would play devil's advocate and quote an instruction from my own driving instructor. The car that merged left did so far too soon, they hadn't even completed their navigation of the roundabout to start their next set of observations. I was always taught to stay in the designated lanes, to not wander and fully complete an action before moving onto the next one. That being said, he also did tell me to watch out for distracted drivers and queue jumpers on roundabouts because this is the exact sort of thing that happens in those situations, and holding back a car length has saved me from this quite a few times.

The cammer was at speed even catching the car on the inside, so there was definitely a portion of I'm going to beat you, also speeding up to the n/s of a car that is indicating left can and did cause problems so holding back enough in case they do cut across doesn't cost you anything but would avoid a possible collision, it's on you just as much as it is them to be aware of your surroundings and be prepared, neither the cammer or the red car bothered to try and be safe.

Clip 15: Notice at around 9:53 how the cam car left it very late to exit the roundabout, almost past the start of the central reservation. It's as though the cammer wanted to get as close as possible to the white car to "make a point" before exiting...and almost missed their exit in the process.
@JdeBP
@JdeBP 2 года назад
No. I think that the cammer was mistakenly thinking that the white car was going to exit at that exit (A452 north) from lane 1 into lane 1, despite the white car signalling right, and was trying to exit at the same exit from lane 2 into lane 2. I suspect that the video clip was sent in with the expectation that everyone else would also think "Look at this white car going around to its third/fourth exit and past the 12 o'clock position, but in lane 1! What poor road positioning! And look how late xe signalled!", which is probably what the cammer xyrself thought. It's certainly better at that particular roundabout to use lane 2 where the white car emerged (B4114, which has two lanes on approach), and go around in lane 2 of the roundabout itself if one is heading to the Coleshill or A452 south exits; but the white car wasn't wrong not to, and the cammer simply didn't account for the possibility that the white car was going around in lane 1. The correct response would have been to see the late right turn signal decision, conclude "Oh look! Someone's realized that's not xyr exit.", hold back a bit, and calmly go off onto the A452 north after the white car has continued around. But then the mindset that creates xyr own unmarked lane 2 on the single-lane B4114 to get onto that roundabout in the first place (which no-one else has spotted), goes around the whole roundabout in lane 2, clearly intending to whiz up the A452 in lane 2 as well, is not prone to holding back for other people.

So that’s probably why this guy doesn’t mount the pavement at this point. He didn't cut back in violently or move at excesssive speed and had no reason expect a dog running out into the middle of the road. Even looking at the clip knowing what is going to happen you don't see it a hazard before or even during the overtake until the dog rockets out - and it hits the car well into the middle of the road. He remained in his lane - the correct lane - and the red car was the one who made a manoeuver into your viewer's lane immediately after the exit of the roundabout and without making certain nobody was there. I can perhaps understand why you would attribute a fraction of the blame to your viewer given that the red car was indiciating its intent, but even this is mitigated in your viewer's favour because your viewer could easily be forgiven for thinking that the red car's indicator was still on having only just finished negotiating the roundabout. Red car gets too close, so cammer uses the horn in the correct way. Red car will 100% have known that the cammer was on the left, so to veer into the left lane was going to be a certain collision. They probably wanted to make the cammer brake. Cammer should have done more to avoid it. They could have slowed, especially when there seems to be some tension building between both drivers. Their attitude was often not without reason tbh. On the cycle car encounter the visibility wasn't great, which probably just meant both parties should have been taking extra-special care.

I've just asked the same thing. baffled at Ashley's conclusion on this one. I can only guess it's because the driver didn't anticipate the car was going to pull out in front of him, which is kind of flawed logic because otherwise why not slam on for every car waiting at a T junction. Reaction time seemed ok, road surface was wet so maybe couldn't hear the ABS chunnering early on. Absolutely baffled tbh.

I don't think that's the right approach. Sure, if you think you're the best driver ever and want to send it in with a comment "look what an amazing driver I am and how the others wronged me" then you might want to do that checking. If however you realise that everyone can always learn (a hallmark of the best, they know there's always something you can learn) and send your footage with that intention, "can you take a look and tell me what I could have done better?", then you've got nothing to worry about.

Clip #11. The bus isn't holding up any vehicles in lane 1. The vehicles in the left lane shouldnt be in lane one. Thats the A70 Slateford Road Edinburgh, its a part time bus lane and it runs for 16.00 to 18.30. So if the date and time is correct the cars shouldnt be there in the first place.

@@DasArab One possibilty... Dashcams generally get the time from GPS if they have the feature, or it may be set manually. Many, of either type, do not automatically adjust for BST/GMT. Since the date on the footage says December (or mid March if in US format), it's possible that the time in the dashcam was set before the clocks went back in October. That would make the time recorded appear one hour later than it actually was. But it's probably just me over analysing the possibilities - it's what I do sometimes.

@8:34 I nearly had that situation. My dog was young and I was trying to train her too walk with out a leash. It was going smooth until she wandered off the side walk. Luckily traffic was going slow and the situation was solved by a Mercedes driver. I apologized and explained that we were practicing off leash. We were all cool and went our merry way. And I leashed my dog for the rest of the walk.

@@scottgrafton68 That does not apply everywhere. Where I live, dogs are allowed to walk without a leash. I was training her because I had some confidence in her walking freely without a leash. We had a trust bond together and looked out for each other. I took care of her, she took care of me.

@ArminGrewe

@@xXDamolaXx well, maybe partially. Interestingly the rule in the Highway Code regarding children and parents is very similar to the one for dogs: Rule 4: Young children should not be out alone on the pavement or road (see Rule 7). When taking children out, keep between them and the traffic and hold their hands firmly. Strap very young children into push-chairs or use reins. So drivers need to keep their speed sensible and in particular pay attention to children, but I don't think it's as simple as saying "we'd blame the driver" when the parents should have been present and/or supervising their children. It's at the least a shared responsibility (or blame, if it all goes terribly wrong)

The driver of the bin lorry @5:27 is breaking the law. Whilst a bin lorry will often have to stop at "unconventional" locations by the nature of the job, there is an absolute prohibition on stopping on those zig-zag lines for exactly the reasons shown (unless stuck in traffic of course - not the case here). On the clip with the bus. Highway code rule Rule 223. "Buses, coaches and trams. Give priority to these vehicles when you can do so safely, especially when they signal to pull away from stops. Look out for people getting off a bus or tram and crossing the road." It's absolutely explicit. Not an offence of course, but it points to bad and inconsiderate driving.
