The noise and notchiness of DFGT is both construction and age. As far as construction, it uses straight cut gears throughout. In contrast G-series G27 and newer use helical cut gears. If you know anything about gears, you know the deal. As far as age, the geartrain in all of DFGT is made completely out of polyamide (PA, Nylon), which is a plastic that gains its strength from water. Cast brittle, it is bagged with some amount of water for several days, and it captures 4% of water by weight and volume into the internal space of the polymer matrix, with this water serving as a sort of lubricant and plasticiser, which makes the plastic exceptionally tough, flexible, slippery and silent on touch. The casting also expands in size due to incorporating the extra mass. In use and storage, the water is slowly lost, with design life of around 10 years. As the water is lost, the gears shrink in size, become more brittle, become more noisy to touch, and also the depthing between them drifts, clearance expands, making it more rattly and more notchy to feel. G-series has sintered brass motor gears coupled straight to the wheel shaft polyamide gear. And yes you can re-bag the PA parts with a spoonful of water to restore them to factory condition. The motors are fundamentally the same between all of these wheels but G-series has TWO of them while DFGT has only one. The reduction ratio between motors and steering wheel correspondingly differs by approximately the factor of 2, so DFGT has a vaguely similar amount of max torque while being a lot less speedy. Dual motors also have their torque nonlinearities offset from each other by 135° i think. To be kept in mind that the encoder on G-series sits on the rear of the shaft of one of the motors. As the motor produces heat, it expels moisture from the PA optical encoder ring, which then shrinks, goes brittle, and gets split by the force of the shaft it sits on. On DFGT the encoder is in a cold place where the other motor would be. The power supplies are not exactly identical, 0.75A vs. 1.75A if memory serves, so G-series PSU should work on all of them, but DFGT PSU is likely to die or misbehave on G-series.

I used a g29 for about a year 5 years ago, and then sold it. Recently, I got a used DFGT to get back in, and I feel the DFGT is better with it's feedback. You can tell more what the rear of the car is doing. I think the reason is, the DFGT has straight cut gears (vs. the helical gears on the G29). Straight cut gears transfer the force better I think, while helical cut gears should have better reliability, and lower noise. My account was corroborated by someone else in the house; I never prompted them for anything, and they straight up said the DFGT was actually better FFB wise than the G29, despite having a single motor vs. 2 on the G29.

Thank you so much for so detailed video. It helps to make a right choice about the wheel

OK so in 2022 I use the D-FORCE GT and use a external hand break I have a few tips for if you turn upside down you can remove the shifter and change the knob I added a samurai sword handle second you can mount it to a race stand I recommend the x rocker race stand third you can adjust the centering spring in software along with set every button and map them using software with profiles for each game you can use pedals from the newer wheel if you wanted or to and the existing ones use two triangles of memory foam fitted in the pedal gaps and it fixes the issue fourth you can get 3d printed shifter paddles for the wheel overall amazing for a budget I am tempted to do a video on a budget rig anyways good video just info for anyone who wanted the same wheel as me.

Yours is WAY quieter than mine Mine screams when i just rotate i but the thing is i really like the DFGT because the feedback just feels soo good if you are on a bumpy road it actually feels like it

Dfgt is better, porque los engranajes no son helicoidales y Durán más, hace más ruido pero no tiene holgura, y usa un solo motor con una reductora que hace que tengas mucha fuerza con un solo motor, el inconveniente es que gira lento

7:10 Not meant as a correction; I've got a T150 and yes it has a plastic wheel, but the sides are rubber coated. I personally can live with that much rubber, but yeah, loads of plastic.

Good to know, thanks! If I do any more of these I might buy and then sell back/give to a friend a T150 for comparison, so I’m glad to know it at least has some rubber on it to properly grip it.

Awesome video! May I ask what realism settings you use in Forza horizon five? I’m just getting used to the wheel in game with all assists turned off, I’m losing traction way more than I would expect even from a pro racing Sim
@itoaster
@itoaster 2 года назад
In FH5 I mostly set it to having all the assists off with the exception of tire wear since there’s no way to replace them, unless I’m going for something specific, but I’ve noticed the same with the weird lack of grip using a wheel in FH5 - im unsure if it’s because FH5 is just significantly more geared to controller usage or not, but I found it wasn’t the case with a controller. Apologies I’m can’t be of more help than just “yeah, same” XD It almost makes me wonder if FH5 treats physics with a wheel more like FM does, which either way would put you at a serious disadvantage both to the AI and other players.

@@itoaster thanks for the reply! good to know. Also, I've noticed if I just upgrade tires and one or two things on my "A class" cars in FH5, the grip is much more manageable even with assists off. ONE MORE Q: hard to tell in the vid, but is there a size diff of the wheel itself between the DFGT and g29 ?
@itoaster
@itoaster 2 года назад
@@zacharypump5910 No difference at all! I just pulled the DFGT out again to verify, and they’re the exact same wheel diameter - the motor housing is also the same size. If anything, the housing is a tiny bit smaller on the g29 since there’s no sequential shifter hanging off the side of it.

El dfgt que yo tengo no tiene holgura ninguna en cambio el g27 que tengo si, lo unico que necesitan es abrirlo y ajustar holguras que tenga en los piñones
