Ettal Abbey (Kloster Ettal) is a Benedictine monastery in the village of Ettal close to Oberammergau and Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Bavaria, Germany. With a community (as of 2005) of more than 50 monks, with another five at Wechselburg, the Abbey is one of the largest Benedictine houses and is a major attraction for visitors.

We used to go to Garmisch to go swimming.. Dad was stationed in Oberammergau so we lived there from 67 - 74..

Can't even count how many times we went from Ogau to Garmisch and back again. I lived in Ogau from '83 to '86, and graduated from Munich American high school in '85. I used to go to Garmisch often to hit the nightclubs. There were surprisingly a lot of them for the towns size. Best time of my formative years. Thanks for posting!!!

This brings back memories! In early 1970 I attended a two week army school in Oberammergau. If you stop the video around 25:58, you'll see a big white sign that among other places points out the "Nato-schule", so the school must still be there. It was the dead of winter with 6 foot snow drifts, so the town was deserted, and I was about the only one there when I went to the passion play amphitheater. I spontaneously hopped the Postbus to Garmisch on Saturday, and rode the cog railway to the top of the Zugspitze. I see that the Deutsche Bahn (DB) now runs the bus service; that would be all the red busses we passed on the way. The next day I went to Ettal, having spotted it on the way to Garmisch.

so you didn't stop and see the playhouse, which is just off the main street where they hold the passion plays and has a massive stage and they also do the big operas and the church has amazing internal and the building with Hans and gretel on it is the kids hospital we were there in 2000 and saw the play amazing and the music is just stunning we have great memories and they feed you like kings

Camera is mounted on the top of the windshield outside, what you are hearing is normal wind noise. Try listening to your favorite music while watching my driving travel videos from all over the world. :-)
