Noticed that the road signs are an interesting combination of styles, both international and those that are unique to North America, mainly here in the U.S.
Caltrans? Well I am from California and I am somewhat honored by that but yes I would think that NZ has done a lot better than California has over the years. Does your highway patrol have six shot pistols on their waists as they get into those nice yellow and blue cars?

Interesting to see southern Auckland is 440 km south of whatever starting point NZ 1 has but how long and how far away is Wellington? can you keep doing 100 all the way there?
State Highway one starts at cape Reinga and has about 1081km in the North Island. As for the speed limit most of it is 100kph apart from when it runs through towns. All but about 220km of it is single carriageway.
wow North Island about 1100 km long. Fair distance by American standards anywhere. Lets hope you are not stuck behind a lorry on the single lane part of it.
There are a decent number of passing lanes especially in busier areas elsewhere all it takes is a long straight and a car with enough power to pass a 23m/75.5ft truck.
