I could never live where it's so cold, but I am fascinated with these videos. Same for videos of Nuuk, Greenland. Just so nice to see how people make it in these extreme environments.

Hi Olivia. I teach a group of Japanese high school exchange students, who are here in Ontario for three months to improve their English (they have to a pass a huge English exam in the fall in order to be eligible for acceptance to university). I've been adding in as much as I can about Canadian geography, culture, and First Nations people along the way. Your videos have provided some great insight into life in the North. Thanks very much for them - they've really enjoyed the videos, and we've had some good discussions as a result.

My little brother went to Baffin for a class adventure with his prep school. I think the main town was still called Frobisher Bay. He remarked that it reminded him of the living in the puckerbrush of NH. Except they ate a lot of seal and all the houses smelled of seal. But like back in rural NH, the families loaded up everything with ketchup on Baffin. He bought a box of Nerd candy at the store, and walked out into a vicious, blinding snowsquall!

It was initially called Frobisher Bay until modern civilization came. The name means Place Of Many Fish.

My sweet little wife is from Mexico, and she almost died from minus 7 c. Minus 40 is a lot colder, which happens a lot in Iqualiut. It might be more difficult than you can imagine, however, the one thing these arctic places need is more people, so I hope you will enjoy it there !

did you guys get your vehicle up there or transport it from the south? just curious what is a must have for the car (aside from a block heater or battery charger). moving up there in Feb and have the option of bringing my vehicle from home!
@OliviaIrwin4
@OliviaIrwin4 5 лет назад
Matt BC we bought a used vehicle here! So I have no idea about the costs and logistics of shipping a vehicle, ours was on its last leg anyway and wasn’t worth bringing up haha. Must haves apart from block heater are winter tires, and 4 wheel drive! A remote start is nice to have too but we’ve survived so far without one :)

If you are going to speed up the film for a driving video it is best to have used a good dash cam. Turning the camera to get additional footage was probably ok at normal film speed, but is hard to watch at higher film speeds.

And what is the size of the police force? I’m not Canadian, what are your rights in moving from province to province? Is it like the US where you can move to another indefinitely?

We bought a vehicle here! There are always lots being sold. Next time we go get gas I’ll check how much it is and let you know, my boyfriend is always the one who gets it! The main industries according to google are government, communications, transportation, fishing and hunting, carving/handcrafts and tourism!
