In June 2024 my husband Damien and I leave Montreal where we have lived for the last 9 years with our kids, to move to Nova Scotia.
After an intense period of organizing and packing for our own move (while helping and guiding two of our kids who are leaving the nest in this same season) we leave the city in a U-Haul and our car on a Friday afternoon in June.
This is the story of that drive and our first days at our new home in Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia.
Wanna know more about our move? See my first video in this playlist • Leaving Montreal & Mov...

Hi Renee, I was born and partly raised in Liverpool Nova Scotia. We moved to Ontario when I was young, it never felt like home us. We moved back after 8 year and never looked back. I have lived in White Point for 30 years. I love it here. Lunenburg is a beautiful town, we visit ad never get tired of visiting the Bluenose. Welcome to Nova Scotia

Thanks for watching and thanks for saying hi! In 17 years of visiting NS I have not yet been to Liverpool! But I'm looking forward to visiting it. We love Five Girls bread, we can buy it at the local Fresh Cuts, but it would be great to get it right from the bakery in Liverpool. I also look forward to watching performances at the Astor Theatre. Thanks again for the welcome.

My late Hubby and I drove from Ontario to Nova Scotia many years ago. I must say, the people from Nova Scotia were the nicest people I had ever met. Things have dramatically changed over the years, so I hope there are still some of the amazing people there. Moving is one of the top 5 stresses. Go with the flow.

My husband grew up in this area I came from the Peggy's Cove area. I have been here 33 years now. I am now 68 and have seen a lot of changes here over the years. But the beauty of the place never changes. WELCOME 🇨🇦⛵

I was born in Alberta (lived some other places ) and then most recently lived in Montreal, for 9 years, and now I'm in Lunenburg county. Halifax is a great city, but having spent the last 9 years in a city I am thrilled to be "in the country", especially this countryside which has such great cultural happenings. I loved (& still love Montreal) but being here is a balm to my soul. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. I appreciate it. Keep cool in Montreal!

I enjoyed this video while having my morning coffee. Thank you for the sharing. BTW I too overpay when I feel people are asking for less $ than they are worth. I so appreciate people's trades and how they enrich my life. My egg person is one of my best friends and I appreciate her work with her beautiful chickens!

Discombobulated, gratitude, keep ploughing through……a well needed video right now for me. Thank you so much. My husband and I are moving from Vancouver Island for Lunenburg in a couple of weeks. Sold all furniture, and are shipping close to 100 boxes East after 4 huge cuts on goods, and 3 giant yard sales. We are exhausted, but are more excited at the new adventures ahead! In the disruption, disorientation, and not being able to find anything, living with just basics like sleeping on the floor has been a good experience. With everything packed, we are camping and living like we were in our early 20s! FUN! It has made us feel young again at 68 and 71. Just getting off the floor in the morning has been challenging! Good exercise though. You are so lucky to have your parents. I miss mine every day. Cherish them. They are treasures and precious gifts. Good luck in resettling! All will fall into place and evolve beautifully…..as it is meant to be. XXX

@reneetougas4637 Moving East to be closer to my husband’s big Italian family in New England, and to old time friends when we were first married living there. Will also be closer to many cousins in Quebec. Our friends on Vancouver Island are all into going to Mexico or Asia; we are more Europe centric, so being near Halifax will be easier to hop over there if we want to. The West Coast is gorgeous, but we prefer the people, culture, food, history, architecture of the East Coast. More to see and do as well. More interesting….to us anyways. My husband says, young people go West for adventure and the nature; older people come here for the weather and to die. Not ready to give up yet. Too much to see, Lear, and do while we have the energy! It is also getting super busy and especially expensive on Vancouver Island. It is absolutely booming. Tons of traffic where there was none 12 years ago when we moved here. Huge influx of people are coming in. We live in the centre of this quaint small town south of Nanaimo. The muni recently rezoned the core of our town where we live to more densely populated developments - 3 story condo buildings….without telling us the locals. It’s a matter of short time before the character of the town totally changes as it has for many towns north of Nanaimo. Time to go. Time for change. All our friends say what are you going to do with no doctor? Our doctor here said we will have an easier time finding a physician there than here. He can’t keep up. Any Canadians wanting to become a nurse or doctor - their education should be free with the understanding that they have to practice a minimum of 15 years in this country first, or reimburse the full amount.. My gripe for the day!

Hi there. Just wanted to let you know I really appreciated your reply to my question about the context for your move. I asked that question while logged into Google chrome with my work email address, which then created a whole RU-vid account for that work email address. When I discovered this I deleted that account because I don't want an youtube account associated with my work email. And deleting that account deleted my reply and also your reply. But I wanted you to know I read it and really appreciated you taking the time to tell me your experience and I'm sorry that the comment has now disappeared.

I just came across your video. I live about an hour from you and was just in Lunenburg for an appointment yesterday. I have lived in Nova Scotia all my life and just love it here. Moving houses is no fun, but once it all comes together, I have found it relaxing being in a new space. Welcome home.

We did the same thing & it’s not easy.. we moved 2200+km to NS in Jan 2021.. it’s definitely an adjustment, we moved with 2 of our children and 2 stayed behind. It’s a very “weird” feeling… even 2 1/2 yrs later for me it feels weird. We do love it out here though, it’s definitely a change of pace which we desperately needed. I think we’re probably similar in age, I understand how you’re feeling, 100%. I’ve subbed to your channel, will watch some back episodes as well.. hope you’re settling in well! ❤

Hello! Thanks for saying hi and subscribing. I really appreciate it. I can imagine the weird feeling you describe. Leaving our children to move elsewhere is a less common phenomena than the reverse situation. The summer has been delightful and I am adjusting well, which you'll see in the other videos I have here. I am loving the change of pace from city life :)

Hi Renee. I just happened to come upon your RU-vid channel today. I enjoyed watching it. It looks like you're cherishing these new moments. How wonderful to be living on the same property as your parents!! It looks so beautiful there. I can relate to how you are feeling.. feeling out of sorts, up & down w/emotions. My husband & I moved from CA to Oregon yrs ago. We didn't know a soul but knew we had to get out of CA. It's been a blessing to be in a smaller town. The only thing that gets me sad at times is that my Dad still lives in CA. It's been an adjustment. Thank you for being "real" in the emotions you're going through as I'm sure it will help others. 😊 I am now subscribed to your channel. God bless you & your new chapter in your life! BTW... we have that SAME picture of the man praying that you have walking into your front door 😊

Most Nova Scotians are still friendly. But... With all the people that moved here from away during COVID and since the locals can no longer afford property here. So some of them , especially the young adults with no housing outlook may be a little testy towards come from away people.
@NobodySpecial509
@NobodySpecial509 5 дней назад
Some locals couldn’t afford it before Covid to be fair… the house we bought sat on the market for nearly 2 months before we put in an offer. Not being able to afford (nor find) housing is the same way clear across Canada, it’s not unique only to Nova Scotia…

I have seen two of your videos so far and I would like to see more because I can really relate to these places of Montreal and Nova Scotia. I grew up in Bridgewater and lived in Montréal for 15 years. Where are you from if not from Montreal or Nova Scotia? I suppose it will come out eventually. Anyway, I moved from Montreal to Bedford, NS to care for my mother when she had cancer, but I am now on the other end of life after the passing of a parent too soon. And it leaves me looking for meaning and connection...even years later...

Hi there. Good news, I plan to keep producing more videos. I'm originally from Alberta but haven't lived there since I was 24. In my adult life I've lived in New England and Quebec. Montreal and Nova Scotia are quite different from each other. Our kids still live in Montreal and we suspect that Montreal will be an important part of our lives years to come, or as long as we have children living there. I appreciate having that connection as I love the city of Montreal. However, for anglophones Quebec is becoming a more hostile place to live. I was happy to leave.
