As a Canadian, I'm so sorry you had such a horrible first night in your van here. Each province has an adventure guide book or a back country guide book that you can usually pick up at a tourist location and some fish and tackle shops and in there are maps and lists of back country camping. They can be a really big help especially with finding free camping. I hope the rest of your holiday here goes a lot better :)

One more advice, eest areas are common in canada. The less frequented routes have dewer but more welcoming. Like Vegreville, Alberta offers free showers with free overnight parking. The view is adorable too. So stray from the tourest path, use the other map routes, the slower ones.

Generally Car Parks at Trail Heads are Not for Overnight Camping. Locals are always watching because there are nasty people who come around & cause issues. Best to pay for a campground & get some rest while contributing to the local economy. While you are shopping, (for food or anything), please remember to shop from the locals & not the huge companies like Walmart. It will be appreciated.
@demieverafter
@demieverafter 27 дней назад
I totally understand it wasn’t a campground or an overnight parking stay and if the local lad had expressed exactly what you did we would have sympathised and probably left but he was mad about Europeans, the video was just a snippet he did go on for a about 2 hours. We fully intend on supporting locals campsites and stores however it would be impossible for us to never shop at a supermarket so we will find a balance and already have, it’s a long trip and we just needed to stay somewhere, there was no campground close by we could get into and intended to be up and out very early Thank you so much for commenting and watching ☺️

The East Coast of Canada and the U.S. has little free camping compared to west of the Mississippi River. It's a night and day difference. Even the Walmarts abide by local ordinances and their security will chase campers out at night. Always get permission before staying at a Walmart.

As a former Brit, now a Canadian, I'm sorry to hear about your experience. It's unfortunate that you encountered some unsavoury individuals on your first night here. Please be assured that Canadians, particularly in the Maritimes, are known for their warm hospitality and willingness to lend a helping hand. You'll find that we're generally less aggressive than some Brits in my experience. During your travels, don't miss the opportunity to explore New Brunswick, often referred to as the 'Drive-Through Province'. The Fundy Parkway is a must-see, and the Provincial Park campgrounds are well worth a visit. Fredericton and St. Andrews are also excellent destinations. I wish you all the best and hope you enjoy everything (and everyone) this wonderful country has to offer.

As a Canadian (who has travelled-and occasionally dry camped-in the Maritime provinces in an RV), I’m so sorry, shocked and disgusted by the reception you received your first night here. But I guess there are crazy people everywhere you go these days. The world has become unhinged. I love the Maritimes. The natural beauty is astounding. I hope your awful first night doesn’t taint the rest of the journey, and that you enjoy the rest of your time here experiencing the warmth and hospitality the Maritimes can offer.

"Go back to Europe..." 😂 Welp, that's certainly something you don't hear every day. I find this particular insult funny because it's so broad. Imagine car camping in Wales and hearing "Go back to North America ya dern Yankees!" What's also funny is that when you look at the sheer size of Canada, it ranks 10th in countries with the lowest population density. So much space and yet some people choose to fight over a particular patch of grass.

If he’d said those exact words I would have said fair enough I respect that and left…but he was being racist and we were not blocking anything or anyone or making a peep, as I mention in the video I understand people not wanting a campervan near their house if it’s not a camp ground but that doesn’t justify a. How angry he was b. Wanting to slash someone’s tires and c.being racist I only recorded a snippet he went on for about two hours

Sorry for the unfortunate nite! Please leave time in your schedule for Beautiful British Columbia . It is as beautiful as Alaska and almost as large. Banff Jasper, Vancouver, Stuert Cassier hwy, Niska Volcano north of Terrace. The gold trail from Williams lake to Likley north thru the rockies to BarkerVille and west to Quesnel is an Amazing loop road on your way up or down. Don't forget the Hot springs north off Muncho lake on the Alcan highway(Laird hot springs) and of course, Fuel up at each fuel stop north of Prince George they get further apart and not always open with some gaps of 400km with no fuel and NO PHONE , except with a few kms of a village. Some places have no phone reception but there is free wifi at all public libraries in these tiny villages. Starlink works amazing and well garmin inreach would be a way too go as well and good for taking on hikes. North of Dawson Creek if your a mile off the road there maybe no one for weeks or months come by as therebis little population and not many hiking on the trails. So yes I'd consider Garmin inreach a must. You will be lucky too see a bear so not too worry much there but Do Not Leave garbage outside, that will bring then into camp and garbage bears ARE Dangerous and have too be killed. Enjoy the trip, there's not much in Saskatchewan unless you drive the northern route, but the mozzies will carry you away. CHEERS AND SAFE TRAVELS I look forward to watching your experience thru our wonderful country. Steve h.

So sorry you had to experience a drunk on your first day. Maritime residents are amongst the friendliest folks in the country, especially those livid in Newfoundland. Quebec can be less than friendly, from our own personal experience. Manitoba has wonderful provincial parks. Saskatchewan is a depressingly flat province to get from one side to another. Welcome to Saskatchewan, and you’re welcome to it. British Columbia is, without question the most beautiful province. Vancouver is a large city with lots of traffic. Banff and Lake Louise are congested and busy towns. Best to take Hwy 3 to the coast. Vancouver Island is amazing, as is northern BC and the Yukon. Do not miss Dawson City and the territorial park across the river via a free ferry ride. Just to emphasize that Saskatchewan is unmercifully flat. You will be able to sit at a picnic table and watch your dog run away from you for three days. 😂😂😢

I hope things go better...make a stop in st andrews also when you do get to ontario stop by muskoka it's beautiful as well.

Hey you just came across my recommended here on RU-vid probably because I watch another van life couple. Anyways I'm in Northern Ontario and I'm not sure how far you are in your journey but when you're coming through, try to make a trip to Manitoulin island. I'm sure y'all will really love it. It's only about a half an hour away from where I live and I'm there all the time in the summer. It's a beautiful place. If you Google it you will find a place called kagawong and it has a small area there called bridal veil Falls with walking trails and a chocolate shop. It's a really nice town. There's also a trail on the way there it's called the cup and saucer. It's a beautiful place you have to go across a swing Bridge into little current from the mainland area. Just thought I would let you know.😊

There's a boat tours that you can take there as well and it's called I believe the 30,000 Island tour. Not quite sure of the name but it does go all throughout these little tiny islands. I always thought to myself how can the people living here not get up every day and look at these mountains and love it? Hi, both Canada and the U.S. have a lot of free camping on Crown Land (Canada) or BLM /National Forests (U.S.). In all of these places, the closer to a town, the more hassles ther are, from local ordinances prohibiting camping overnight to being on private land that you think is OK to stay overnight. Local campgrounds get these ordinances passed b/c they want you to stay with them and get $$. The maritime provinces really don't have any free camping. Newfoundland certainly does and is worth the ferry ride. Southern Quebec & Ontario have nothing, particularly the Toronto region. Pay to stay unless you are 100% sure you are allowed to stay overnight. Look up Crown Land camping for maps in each province. Enjoy the mosquitos and leave nothing that the bears want outside. You can actually be fined in Ontario parks if you do.

Welcome to Canada... jeez, I'm sorry you had to experience that. Like to talk about getting a knock, that was insane! Not that it's probably worth the time or effort, but you could honestly report that to the police, that is uttering threats at the least. Unfortunately we do have a growing problem here with people on a certain side of the political spectrum, where xenophobia and anti-immigration rhetoric is absolutely an issue. I'm glad you know it's not something you'll face from normal Canadians going forward. I mean we do have the stereotype for being super nice and apologetic, and I would agree that Canadians are typically non-confrontational and very polite, but we have just as many a-holes as everywhere else they are just usually better behaved. Anyways, enough of that nonsense, I hope you have a wonderful time in Canada! I'm from near the mountains in Alberta, but did a few week roadtrip around the East Coast and absolutely loved it. I know I was ready to record anything he did if he touched the van, we felt horrified that he said he would slash our tires then we remembers he was drunk and had children watching so really just wanted to leave the situation asap

Welcome to Canada. Sorry about the drunk clown you had the misfortune of seeing. As a Canadian, I promise you that isn't normal. Enjoy your travels through our country. I'm certain you'll leave with no regrets. Most of us are friendly and welcoming.
