What about the mandatory insurances etc?. $200 seems pretty cheap for 5 days. I'm heading out there for 10 days in August with the family and would appreciate any tips you have to offer.
They have pretty good deals on rental cars. You might find one for even less! I didn't add on the additional insurance, since my credit card (an AmEx) has international insurance. Otherwise, I would've added their insurance. DiscoverCars has the well-known national brands, plus local companies at SJO. I booked before going, making sure they offered free cancelation. We ended up going with Alamo, but any of the companies would be fine. Most of them seem to rent small SUVs, which work great! I think we had a Toyota Rav4.
