The Sport mode “button” turns on Sport Mode Automatic - steering and suspension tighten up, Eco mode turns off, RPMs wind out further when accelerating, and your car uses the gears to slow down when you take your foot off the gas pedal - this is the “drag” you’re experiencing when you’re not in Cruise Control. Sport mode on the gear knob initiates the same environment changes, and it automatically turns on the steering wheel paddles for shifting gears like a manual transmission (sans the clutch). This is how my 2019 Chrysler 300C Sport mode works anyway
When you release the gas, you feel the engine braking because you're driving in a gear below the recommended one for that speed. When you're driving, it engages the gear so you don't feel the lag but you are actually engaging a lower gear for that speed and you are actually using more gas than what should be the case.
I will have to try this with my 2012 Charger with the 8 Speed. I drop down to sport mode a lot going into corners because I don't like the way the 8 speed down shifts when I accelerate after the corner so I use sport mode to control the shift better.
I drive my G6 in sport mode. Regular automatic has trouble accelerating, sport mode helps me get up to speed and pass people easier. Also it’s more fun cause you get the experience of driving a manual minus the clutch and when you get sick of a manual you can switch back to automatic.
I’m using it on a 2018 Cherokee. Would sport mode work better if I switched to manual mode as well instead of drive? Because my rpms seem very high in sport. Ode automatic. Even when my foot comes off the gas the rpms still hover high
Sport mode is only for drive... and yes the rpms are too high in sport mode for daily driving IMO. If you use cruise control the rpms will go down to normal until cruise control is disengaged.
Yeah I just got this Jeep and man those RPMs just seem too high with sport mode. I might just have PTSD from terrible ford transmissions though and high RPMs
Yousef Al-A'ssaf يوسف العسّاف I don’t think I said it applies to all vehicles, my 2002 IS300, 2016 Honda Civic, and my e46 do burn gas quicker driving it on sport mode.
@@TonyAlvar3z That's not what I meant. All cars burn more gasoline on sport mode, that's a fact. But the difference is barely noticeable with some cars. How much more fuel does your civic burn on sport mode, 3-7%?
Yousef Al-A'ssaf يوسف العسّاف yeah around there since it’s a 4-cylinder unlike the 6-cylinder on my other two cars. I get your point thou, I was just making it clear I never said that it applies to all cars. 👍🏻
I like V8 cars better, but I don’t like the speed TOO high. I could go with a 8 speed. I don’t really like v6 cars... How can a car be in 8th gear going 62MPH? Did you leave it in high gear? Because 62MPH is 3rd gear.
Title of the video: Driving in sport mode all the time It disables sport mode only while cruise is set... as soon as you touch the brake/disable cruise control that it is automatically back in sport mode. Obviously if you turn off sport mode it will not turn itself back on. Point is that sport mode can stay on all the time without a big hit in MPG if you use cruise at steady speeds.
