+dathip You never reach Bakersfield on this trip, because I-15 doesn't go anywhere near Bakersfield. At the point where you mention Bakersfield, you enter the town of Baker.
I did the same road trip. As European I can say that i never felt so free in a car. When you drive it's not boring at all, but I was also hangovered. Freedom you find only in the desert
Being from Denmark, i've only driven that route once. Love the incline out of the LA bassin. It is much steeper than video can convey. And ofcourse the Mojave is fantastically beautiful and strange, set in contrast to my green and densely populated homeland. Thanks for the video.
One day, I am going to move from Ohio to Los Angeles in California to see and feel what the California life is like and things and have new experiences and maybe one day I will go to Las Vegas to see what it is like too.
@@DAL201107 I did when I went to Phoenix, Arizona in November of 2020 because my uncle was going to have hip surgery, so, I tagged along with my mom and my grandma because I knew my uncle would need all the help he can get after he had his surgery.
There's a trick that can be used to travel every mile of I-10 in the Los Angeles area, including the mile-long spur between US-101 and I-5 (miles 17-18). The way to do that going east is to run the full route from Santa Monica to I-5, get off I-5 at 4th Street, then use either State Street or Boyle Ave. to get to 1st Street, and from there, you can get on NB US-101 to the I-10 spur that includes the State Street/Soto Street exit (X18/19) at I-5. To do that going westbound, you have to double back on US-101, get off at 4th Street, and follow 4th Street to I-5, from where you can get to WB I-10.
Thanks for posting this. I'm from Canada and one of my dreams is to drive across the southwest and experience those desserts and the heat, it fascinates me for some reason.
Great driving despite the head trips along the way. Kept great distance and weren't distracted by speed up, slow down behavior by some cars. Very good and illustrates just how big LA is, the great distance to Las Vegas and the continuous traffic you deal with.
You should try the same commute any Friday during the summer or during a long holiday weekend, or whenever there's brush fires in the Angeles forest, those 4 and a half hours will turn into 10 hours.
i love how Hollywood shows and movies will have characters standing around LA one minute, decide to drive to Vegas on a whim, then in one quick scene cut they're pulling into the Hard Rock like its just over the horizon. the TV show Entourage did this several times, with (unintentionally) humorous effect.
Nice video. For once there's no fast forward action like in other long trip videos some people upload. For sound I muted it and opened a new RU-vid window and played my own choice of music while watching.
You were starting at Santa Monica I can see. To drive through the Santa Monica and San Bernardino Freeways would be a good idea if you were driving at night(Or on a Weekend) when the Freeways are empty, especially in Downtown Los Angeles. But you are driving in the daytime and the best route in that type of day would be to take the San Diego Freeway(405) North to the Ventura Freeway(101) East(Or South), where it would change over to the 134 at Burbank and you would take it all the way to Pasadena where it would change over to the Foothill Freeway(210). Once you are on the Foothill Freeway you would take it all the way to San Bernardino where you can hit Interstate 15 North where you could take it all the way to Las Vegas. It's a good drive though, and it looks like you are taking it at the twilight of the day.
Drove the route many times..love it. once i drove from LA to salt lake, denver, chicago, nyc, key west LA.. almost 13000miles /21000km in three months with many stops. do something similar again next year..
i miss there . i miss the places . i now am in army in korea and i had no choice about joinging the army . its just something you do in korea unelss you wanna go jail . but just 8 months ago i used to drive from la to las vegas and play there a lot , explore a lot of new places i have never been to . god , it was so cool and beautiful and that is something i miss every fuckin day . now it feels like it is the one of the reasons i live this life . going there . one day i might see this comment i leave now .
Admin, I do not know much English as I am from Russia, but the United States a beautiful country. I would like to see Texas and California. All. If possible, do it! Thank you!
@@marcoyanez5487 I'm always very suprised, that this is not already a law, or if it is, nobody seems to care. Thing is, that overhere (Europe), doing that would mean an instant revoke of the driving license, and a hefty cash fine.
Few questions from an Brit planning the same journey. A) I take it it's a free for all when it comes to lanes (i.e. no overtaking lanes)? B) Is there anywhere worth stopping midway? C) What's the main speed limit and how heavily is it enforced? Thanks
Andrew Quinlan A) Technically the far left lane is a passing lane but unless u have a cop at night who hasnt met his quota (which is very rare) your fine. B) IDK C) City freeways in beginning - 65 mph, desert freeway - 70mph. Just follow the traffic. Unless ur goin 85-90 your fine.
I've driven to vegas many times and it never matters which trip it is, once I come in anbd I finially see the Hotels on the strip WAY out inb the distance, I always have to take the Biggest sigh of relief, knowing I have just drive 450 miles in whatever it is, 7 or 8 hours with maybe 1 or two stops along the way, my friends always tell me that I could probably make the whole 450 miles on just one tank of gas, but I just never want to push it so If I remember correctly, I usually one of my stops is for a fill up, you did a fantastic job on your trip, dont know what time you Left Los Angeles, but you made the 4 hour trip just as the sun was setting, best time to make Vegas........
+Cameron Bunch Wait, can you actually do that? Then again, I'm probably asking a really stupid question because my memory has gone from being hungry as of typing this comment.
That is very hard to do because there is a large section stretching from southern Panama into northern Columbia that is completely undeveloped and contains no roadways.
If a bridge was built across the Bering Strait connecting Alaska to Russia then driving from Argentina to South Africa would be possible! Imagine how long that road trip would be!
I got to say this. Most of you guys from the comment cry about not being from Vegas or Los Angeles. Jesus, I want to go to America and live there so bad that I would live in Alaska. You can't understant. You americans are blessed to live there and have all this huge cities and the desert and all that. It's crazy.
I have drove this road for almost 3 years every other week to see my baby,I'm living in Vegas and her in LA.I really love to drive 15 fwy Thanks for the video
chanctonbury63 Not as far as it would be from San Diego, though it's more direct from San Diego (just straight up I-15). I would estimate this trip, as seen in the video, was about 270-280 miles. It's about 330-340 from San Diego.
I'd rather hear the natural sound of the trip. So I'll have to mute this. If one doesn't like the music it takes away from the awesomeness of the video. First song puts me in a trance - sleep inducing relaxation music. Oh yay. The music stops as I'm typing.
Thanks for sharing your video coverage. I watched the whole thing almost completely in real time. I'll be making this trip at the end of May 2015. It just gave me a little better perspective to match our expectations.
Im only watching this because im going to Las Vegas in a couple of days i wanted to see mostly how the desert would be like it didint look bad so im exited!! Its my first time going to lol
I had a dream (about a week ago as of this comment) that I was going to work, or somewhere, using a toy truck that had something like 20 to 24 wheels on it (lol)! But I don't think you should drive a toy truck to Las Vegas because they are supposedly working on the idea!
What was going on with all the cops at Primm, and that Chrysler turned the wrong way? Interesting that just past that was a sign saying Highway Patrol Zero Tolerance Zone. lol. Nice video, beautiful scenery. Could have used sound, though.
I have rearely ever seen worse driving than this. Is it the law in California to cruise in the left lane and pass on the right? These people do not know anything about drivng or lane dicipline. I am glad I do not live there and have to put up with this style of driving.
***** The laws are similar, but each of the 50 states sets their own laws. Also, each state has different levels of enforcement. Some are strict and some are lenient. It just depends were you are. California used to have pretty good levels of driving skills, but that has gone down in the recent past.
Michael P. This is crazy to me too, but it seems to work for them in some weird way. In Denmark this guy would have lost his driver's license in three minutes along with 75% of the other drivers.
SBC89 I have not been to California in about 20 years but at that time that state was a pretty good place to drive in and it was enjoyable. There are some nice parts to California, but I have no strong desire to go back there. California has evolved into a very narcisistic culture during that time span. This type of driving is not the norm in most of the country. I agree that most of these drivers should have their driver's permits taken away. I do not think it works for them because of the speed up and slowing of the traffic flow.
+Heitor Ribeiro My dad and I traveled from San Diego to Las Vegas in 2006, and on the way to Las Vegas, we stopped for lunch at a restaurant on Lenwood road, just off I-15 in Barstow, and there are gas stations there, as well. Coming back from Las Vegas, we ate lunch in the town of Baker, which is 90 miles south of Las Vegas and 60 miles north of Barstow. But when and where you eat and fill up should be determined by what time of the day you leave, because you're bound to run into a lot of traffic, whether it's leaving Las Vegas, between Baker and Barstow (especially approaching the Agricultural Checkpoint near Yermo), and of course, almost anywhere from the Cajon Pass (especially with the ongoing road work at the Devore Interchange, where I-15 and I-215 split) to any destination in the Los Angeles area as I-15 is the main north-south thoroughfare between Las Vegas and San Diego, and I-10 is the busiest east-west route, but I-210 (signed CA-210 at I-15), CA-60, and CA-91, which leads to Orange County (particularly Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm) and Redondo Beach, are also terribly busy with traffic.
