I'm so glad you told the home owner about the mailbox. One time when I was a kid some teen was going 50mph or more down our dirt road and destroyed our mailbox. We lost important bills (very early 2000s before everything was online) and the cop laughed in my moms face when she got upset the cop was going to let the kid go free without a ticket or promise to pay or anything

1:42 speaking of mailboxes, I actually remember my bus driver running over one of my neighbors mailboxes trying to turn out of my neighborhood. She was dropping one of the kids off at one of the higher houses before dropping me in the rest of the kids off at my neighborhood. I guess she just turned a little to much and caused the whole bus to run over the mailbox completely squishing it! A whole metal mailbox was squished! She ended up leaving her information and said that she'd pay for a new mailbox and that she was incredibly sorry.

Accidentally hitting something while driving is actually one of my biggest fears when driving, it’s one of the reasons I take meds for my anxiety because it can get that bad at times.

As a new driver, I can relate

4:04 lol, as a fresh out of school mechanic (it's been 3 years since school, and I still haven't been able to land a good job in my field cause of my own personal issues, sadly, lol), I can definitely tell ya, car dealerships where you have to go for recall repairs loooove to give their customers the squeeze for all the repairs. Also, yeah, addin bogus extra work like new brake pads and a tranny flush, like that's not even stuff you need that often, especially the tranny flush cause transmissions really only need that every 50 thousand or so miles. Basically, get an oil change every three months if you don't have a long work commute, or track your milage and do it every 3,000 miles if you do drive a lot, and assuming you have an after 2010 car, you should be aware that your car prolly takes synthetic oil which burns cleaner in the engine that the heavier oil weights that older cars like my '91 Cadillac Deville use. And you wanna check your tire tread depth every year, general rule of thumb in my experience is to change those every 3 years and brake pads just once they start squeelin when you stop. So yeah, oil, tires, brakes, those are definitely important to keep up with on a schedule, all other things can pretty much be left alone until they completely break, or at least that's the cheap way of doin things when you're not gettin scammed by car dealerships.

4:58 a good way to call the bluff, is if it really is such a danger, they'll call the police, the police will let you leave with the car, but then immediately arrest you and fine you. so if they call the police, and the police vouches for the necessities of the repair, but says you're free to drive off with it if you so wish, if you still doubt it, get a tow truck to take it to a different mechanic, because you'll get fined if you drive it out

Illy, I recommend getting an OBD2 scanner (specifically a blue driver) as it works on anything 1996 or newer and will scan the cars computer for any issues/problems
