Without the extra fredge, they have to go out in the new car.. only to find the fuel system clogged by a ball bearing. Kid films the scene, says nothing to ruin the take.
Yeah, he probably really needed the Fridge hence why he showed up. Not a wealthy man, the fridge was a practical item for life the Corvette will mean he has to spend money on a vehicle he didn't REALLY want.
You're a solid guy, Hoovie. You're paying it forward in spades. Thanks for giving back to the community, and caring for thy neighbor (although your literal neighbors probably don't enjoy all the cars clogging up the cul-de-sac!). Keep it up, brotha!
@@rsprockets7846 in most states you have 2 business days and can drive it to either the dmv or home... been pulled over a handful of times in different states and had to educate some cops on the law in some cases. Where do you live?
So hear I am in the UK watching one of my favourite channels and Bloody hell that's my cousin I haven't seen him for must be 15 years! I remember his first car a yellow SAAB 99
Hi Matt, Small world indeed, thanks for your comment -you come here often then?... Dad was telling me John called him today to tell him the news, which really baffled him at first. Aaron is a subscriber to this channel and he got me into it so that I was completely unaware of the secret plan. What are the chances eh, and that you should see it? Well, good fun... Hope you're doing well, fancy helping out with a C4 restoration! Cheers to folks back home.
anthony dunne Hi,Couldn't believe my eyes,Hope you are all well and a more prosperous new year I've spent more than six months this year on furlough hence watching numerous you tube channels,You're going to have to do your own video of the restoration and become a RU-vid star! All the best and must meet up next time you're over.
I own an 84 Vette with crossfire. It runs perfectly. Never had a problem. They’re great engines. The problem is people get in there and start adjusting things, and it screws up the synchronization of the the TBIs. They need to be perfectly in synch.
Yeah it's amazing how comfortable the Wizard is in front of the camera nowadays. When Hoovie just started featuring him on his channel a while back he was really shy and would barely talk in front of the camera. Now he even cracks jokes and talks more than Hoovie!
I had an '82 and it was incredibly simple. Once you drilled out the PERMANENT factory covers over the adjustment screws, you just hook up a water manometer because everyone has one, then go to the auto parts store to buy a bent screwdriver, then once you get back home just turn the screws to adjust the water level in the meter. Simple! I sold it after a year....
"Where'd the Y'all come from?" When an American guy stands near someone that sounds like they are from Great Britain, every American's inner 1776 comes out a little.
I love the standard GM TBI. Simple, effective, reliable, and usually not hard to diagnose when something does go wrong. My 1991 G20 would get about 15 MPG with it all day long at 60. 65. 70 didn't matter. By comparison my 2002 vans actually get worse mileage with the fuel injection they run, although the 2500 is supposed to get about the same. The only bad year for the TBI is 1995; fed emissions standards were tightened a bit and GM's solution was to detune the TBI slightly in a way that reduced fuel economy, rather than spend money to really change a system they already knew would be abandoned for 1996. Under two grand really isn't bad for one of these, I see Auto Auction Rebuilds bought his parts car through IAA auctions and he paid $1600 for one with a bunch of damage from something falling on it and it turned out to have a bad transmission. Both of his are a couple years newer with the more desirable TPI too.
I remember the car magazines such as Motor Trend going crazy over the 1984 Corvette. It represented a major redesign of the Corvette, and it was totally cool. I would love to have that one as a weekend car.
Here's another example of Tylers generosity, gifting a Corvette to a deserved man who would have been happy with a refrigerator!!! You're a good man Hoovie!!! 👍🌝
Would have rather seen it gifted to someone who actually was down on their luck, even if he simply drove it to a bus stop and gave it to anyone sitting there.
@@corionh4775 thing of it is we don't know the Englishman's backstory, it could be that he is really in need somehow. I still applaud Tyler, he is giving for the sake of giving, not accolades. It's what we Greek folk call #philotimo
My first mechanic job when I was 18 was at a Chevrolet dealership in 1984, I got the opportunity to drive a few of those Corvettes when they were new. I fell in love with the Corvettes but I've never owned one. Maybe someday I'll buy one when I have more time to play. Great video, I love seeing these give a ways that you do.
"There is no refrigerator?" .. yep, I'd be disappointed too .... Hoovie, you're a marketing genius - give them what they don't want. No one has tried that angle....
Congratulations on getting yours running. I have an 84 and no amount of fixing, parts replacing, and grief keep it running for more than a couple days without the well known CFI hassles.
Tyler, you are a special man. I see the real humanitarian come out in you. I enjoy your videos and get caught up in the trials and tribulations of your purchases. I too, work on cars (just 60's-70's Muscle cars and the odd BMW) and can see the excitement that a purchase gives you and the lows of the (to be determined) pitfalls of your purchases. But, through it all, you are a real professional and it all makes great adventure. Keep up the fantastic work! p.s. if you get frustrated or want to rid yourself of a nasty BMW or Corvette, let me know and I'll hook up my trailer and head your way. Ken
Perfect. Nothing like gifting a Hooptie that is running and driving for a Christmas surprise then -BOOM! It will not start, 😔 at least he was a good sport about it. He did seem however, as though he was a bit disappointed over the lack of Refrigerator though. Lmao Love this Channel
It was called the "Ceasefire" for a reason. When they ran , they ran ok. The problem was the throttle position sensors would fail for seemingly no reason. At $60 a piece you could fix them one day and they could fail again the next... $120 a shot adds up. Many of these Vettes were converted to carburation.
I was just thinking that "converting to carb" when he had the cover off. Pull that BS out and put an edlebrock intake and a 550 cfm carb and you'll get 300 hp out of it easy. Bet you could get it all sorted in an afternoon.
@@muskokamike127 I have one of these. That fuel injection system is absolutely garbage. I've spent tons of money on parts for it. Works great one day, barely runs the next. I'm gonna put a carb on mine and be done with it.
@@carlashton9331 I would call Painless wiring and ask them what you need for gauges and what not. I'm sure with a little research you could get a decent set up.
I can believe it. The original owner of the Camry I bought for 500 bucks he said it runs and drives but shut off after awhile. I have an idea so I bought it bought the temperature sensor for 25 bucks I installed it myself. I think 3 weeks later and get it registered and insured and add more Led lights he saw the Camry. He said a bunch of questions and say was it expensive I said no. The problem is very cheap and you can do it yourself. And it cost me 25 bucks
Yuuuup. Friend of mine got an Volvo for $200. The guy he got it from had done the exact same thing, but a lot of time and money into sorting it, but he was out of patience or money to keep throwing at it. One $50 part and my friend had a driveable beater for 4 years.
I just inherited my father’s 95, with 50,000 miles on it. It’s running great but after watching this I have a strange urge to drive it to Kansas and have the Wizard check it out.
It's crazy how a Hoopty like this Corvette can be fixed with a $40 part whereas many other Hoopties in the past has had problems on top of problems it was a never ending cycle
I love videos like this. I can’t even say how much an old hooptie that’s not worth much at all can really change someone’s life for the better. I’ve had a rough couple years between a marriage, divorce and then Covid killing what was left of my business and it’s hard to just keep my transportation running and legal. I think having a relatively sorted old car would be great to be able to take my kids to car meets and the like and them getting to experience driving and fixing an old car and then enjoying when it works. For now though we walk around the and enjoy other peoples cars so we get half the experience anyway.
I'm British, so trust me when I say that reation is as good as it gets😁 He's over the moon. I wouldn't be surprised when he's on his own and out of sight, he'll be punching the air and jumping for joy. Great video Hoovie seems like a really nice chap.
I didn't see wholesomeness, I saw a busine$$ decision that will become a massive profit for him. "Wholesomeness" would have been driving this thing to a bus stop and giving it away to ANYONE sitting there.
You messed him up by telling him to give it some gas starting it. Although the injection setup is similar to the truck set up, the ECM is primitive compared to the various ones used in the trucks (BTW, a great upgrade for these setups) and doesn't understand that, when he gave it gas you flooded it. At that point the only thing that would have fixed it is if he floored it and that would tell the ECM "I think I flooded it," and it would have shut off the injectors to "clear flood."
I bought an 84 vette in 85. Never had a problem with cross fire. Had to repaint it as clear coat burned off by sun. Wasn’t that fast. Tires cost a fortune. Spent most of my money on actuators. Headlight, window, and antenna cost As fortune. Finally head gasket went. That was it. Traded in on a new Honda Accord.
When he showed it to the guy for the first time and the 'Vette wouldn't start, I think I would have said, "Well, let's see if I can find a refrigerator for you..."
Crossfire's are not hard to work on. Fix vacuum leaks intake gaskets, balance tbi's, iacs and turn up the fuel pressure on the driver tbi. Most are set at 9psi from the factory and that's not enough pressure to run correctly as they age. I adjust them to 12psi and makes a massive difference on quick start, idle and throttle response. I made my own manometer for 5 bucks to balance my tbi's.
It's so funny how the older ecms only see so much. Working on OBD 1 is like working on a boiler. It's all about the KISS method. I love old cars and trucks!
New Balance is the best. I don't care if some people think they're "dad shoes". They also last forever. I have two pairs that I've been wearing for almost 5 years and they're still in good shape.

@@97I30T New Balance 515, I wore them for at least 4 years, and only got rid of them because the tread was so flat I kept slipping on wet days. So comfortable
I had an 1984 ended up installing a 4 barrel carburetor and edelbrock performer intake because same problem wouldnt inject gas at startup, Im sure it would off started with 1 drop of gas in the throttle body
