Just like to say a BIG THANKS you have SAVED ME A FORTUNE , NOT to mention the AGGRAVATION of owning a USELESS MILKFLOAT , I HAVE CANCELLED MY NEW CAR .
I’m so happy I have never been materialistic and always a saver. Living frugally and being a minimalist, I retired at 60 free of debt and happily left the rat race workforce in 2021 with my employer matched and unmatched retirement accounts, my nice size savings and my emergency fund which will see through at least 2 years of my expenses. Not to mention collecting my well earned Social Security benefits I paid into for decades. The last 24 years busting my butt working in healthcare as a (RT)Respiratory Therapist and through the Covid/Delta pandemic 😷. So although I have the cash, I won’t waste my hard earned money on an overpriced fancy golf cart/EV. I’ll keep my 50MPG Toyota Prius Hybrid I paid cash for brand new in 2013. The best trouble free investment I ever made. 2 years scheduled free Toyota maintenance, Reliable, Low fuel ⛽️ consumption and expense, Zero issues, Zero repairs, Zero plug 🔌 in charging required. Just gas up and go!. Today, my Prius continues running like new. Saving me a ton of money. Awesome car!. Since retiring I rarely drive. So my Prius will likely outlast me.😂😂😂😂😅😅😅 No EV for me.
You've made the right decision Terry, you won't regret it. Stick with good old internal combustion. It might be old, but it's still at the cutting edge of what's possible. Unlike these silly battery operated things that only the brain-dead would buy. Treat yourself to a nice V8, or even a big powerful diesel. Then you can roll coal every time you overtake some daft sop in a Tesla. Best game in the world.
The environment is as good as it is *because* of 'fossil' fuels. Without them it would be far, far worse - as we're all about to find out if they ban them. Strip mining for rare earths.... copper mining.... lithium salt flats..... etc.
@@lawreence13 yeah that's abit of weird one isn't it. We have all travelled here today (by flight) to beg you all to stop travelling and polluting the earth. I do think we can do our bit but I draw the line charge up cars. If only there was a way manufacturers could install the chargers within the car something like a self charge hybrid. Just need fossil fuels to power it then (e fuel)
Range anxiety, charger working anxiety, charger cable reach anxiety, waiting lineup anxiety, and charger plug stuck in car anxiety. Too much fun for me so I'll stick with gasoline.🤣
Hi Lee, just watched your Nightmare Before Christmas video. Thanks for suffering so we don't have to, I'm sticking with my diesel. Get yourself a travel blanket to protect your paintwork while charging & you can use it while driving because you won't be able to run your heaters because it's such a drain on your batteries. Great watching you & Geoff Buys Cars.
1200 km across the Canadian prairies. Took 13 hrs which included 2 stops for gas and to use the facilities. Can’t imagine doing that at anytime but especially in the winter here with an EV! I’d probably be freezing to death somewhere beside the road. Less chargers than you had in Wales. Our government is pushing that EV garbage also.
Let me see if I get that straight. So... With enough money I can setup an EV charging company. Then I deploy bunch of charging stations, most probably financed by the government via some lucrative "incentive program" . Then I start collecting money from customers without even selling them something yet (say... 45 bucks) Then I program, maybe 20% of my charging stations to fail the charging but hold onto those sweet 45 bucks for 7 days in my bank account, collecting interest. Multiply by few thousand people per day and... wow. I now own a company that is both "green", "saves the planet" and profits while selling almost nothing. The big question is - how TF is that even legal?
Yes that's pretty much it. Just follow the money. In most cases some will just be unmaintained and never used but they will have procured funding and effed off. Think dodgy PPE contracts. Wash, rinse and repeat.
Petrol charging also prevents panic attacks - can you imagine if you had 3 "are we there yet" in the back seats badgering you non-stop and you take 12 hrs to charge
@@Cayres9 I can easily believe that. My son's Tesla costs about £50 to charge for less than 200 miles and has lost £40k in 2 years with only 4000 miles covered.
Just been on tv tonight that by 2030 we will have lost 4 out of 5 nuclear power stations in the uk. Just at a time when they are proposing that all new vehicles are to be EVs. It is almost impossible to plan to be as incompetent as our current establishment has become.
Look, they haven't figured out how they're going to boost the grid to run HS2 yet. Can't believe they're opting to get rid of nuclear. God must think we're so stupid.
So how the hell will they make electric, not wind farms by any chance or go down the route of fossil fuels being burnt in a coal burning power station.
EVs have gone from "maybe sometime in the future" to "absolutely never" in our house after watching your videos. Thanks for letting my wife and I know just how terrible it would be for us to actually own an EV.
I am with you Lee, but everytime i make a comment about how bad EV's are, i get lambasted by the EVangalists that refuse to admit they have made a very expensive mistake buying a very fastly depreciating car. Please do us all a favour and let Geoff find an ICE car for you that will cost less than the monthly depreciation on the milk float.
Funny that, every time an EVangelist says that they like their car and never have the "problems" that Lee has......they get lambasted by the ICE-screamers spouting the same old tropes (you know what they are)! ..and I'm not an EV owner myself but the "message" really is getting a bit samey. It's a bit like saying don't support England they're boring and bottle it every time for big trophies. Are England supporters going to heed that message? Clue......no! No matter how many times it's mentioned (and even if it happens to be true!)😂😂 Drive the car you want to. Nobody on here is going to be forced to even have to step into an EV..... in their lifetime!
I have found some are from California where they are pretty much all eco freaks and because they only tend to drive short journeys around either San Francisco or the Hollywood parts of LA and they assume that if it works in their crazy state it will work globally. They are absolutely 🤪
I don’t understand these lease packages So you lease a car for 36 months skoda enyaq? , one payment of £3,800 then 35 payments of £395 so that’s £17625 for three years use limited to 6,000 miles a year, extra milage is £0.17 so if you need 12,000 miles that’s an extra £3,006 so your total is £20,631 for 3 years use before charging £6,877 a year But these cars are quite basic you could buy a car outright for that sort of money and pay £1800 a year in petrol And it will last you 15 years
That explains a lot of the replies that i receive. EV's with their current limitations are not for everyone, until the battery technology vastly improves they are of little use to anyone outside of a city.@@bentullett6068
@@TNT-projects I guess you've just found one lease quote. Play with somewhere like leaseloco and you'll find all sorts of deals and different mileages. There are many benefits to leases, especially avoiding a lump sum to purchase outright. The likes of PCPs are an option but can cost more. Then there's depreciation not being your concern. Keeping a car for along time will decrease overall costs, but maintenance costs increase, reliability decreased and you have old tech. Geoff's route can be the cheapest option if you have other vehicles for contingency and a good garage to keep older vehicles running.
I'm 71 years old and drive a Citroën C4 diesel. A fill-up gets me 800 miles. I've never set foot in a McDonald in my life and have no intention of starting now. No way would I buy a car that forces me to buy the rubbish they sell.
I have two ⛽ gas car's a1977 BMW 630CSI, Two spare motors and lots of spare parts. My daily drive is an 2009 VW CC,mint and do all my own work,so all woke green nuts can suck it 🤕😂
New "Law" came into effect yesterday where manufacturers will face fines of £15K per ICE car sold over EV cars that are sold that do not meet the government target for EV sales. If EVs were so wonderful why does the government need to bring in such laws and fines? Let the consumers and the free market decide.
I bought an electric Volvo online through a well known car site and fortunately I had 7 days to try the car if I didn't like it I could hand it back which I'm so glad I did because it took me 2 days to decide that these EVs are the worst thing ever, I've now gone back to a trusty diesel car. You keep this up my friend I now tell everyone who has any notion of buying an EV to run in the opposite direction.
My neighbor leased a Ford Mach e last year. He was a Evangelist 1st class for a year. He bragged and bragged about how wonderful it was. He had a home charger installed. Today I had a chance to go to his home and I was surprised at what he had to say. He told me he was going to turn this car back in September at the end of his lease and go buy a new Buick SUV with a 6 cylinder gasolene engine. He complained that the Ford had lost so much value and had been a big problem to own with all of the recalls and glitches.
I think EVs work if you can charge from home and you can avoid the public charging network. Otherwise it's a stressful nightmare queuing and waiting for charging. The current technology and infrastructure is not where it needs to be. I'll be sticking with diesel for the foreseeable future
Only thing there are gov plans to remove electricity from your home charged cars in the event of a national grid shortage, essentially using EVs as mini power stations. Plans are in place. Tech is there too!
Yes this would be fine but the government is ruining the car industry by threatening us with ICE bans. If electric cars are so good, let the market decide.
My son delivers cars and vans for a living. Last winter he took a Transit Connect EV from Stafford to Glasgow or was it Edinburgh. He set off 1.00am, thinking it had a range of 100miles. NO. Winter. 50miles. It took 1 1/2 hrs to charge up. Therefore it took 2.5hrs to drive 50 miles. Stafford to Scotland 250 miles....5 stops.....12.5hrs. Lunch time the next day. I forget the cost, I think it was £120. Or you could have a diesel, 5hrs, £35. Simple. 😮 Now who is simple?
Come on, let's be honest now, all the ev owners out there if you have a 5 ,6,or 7 year old ev who is going to buy your car absolutely no way I would buy that car, when maybe you might be the one who as to buy a new battery for it of which would cost you far more than what the car would be worth that is a fact. Plus, at the moment, the devaluation is very bad.
@@mikewhitehead50oi, Robot 🤖! Thats rubbish, jaguar,Ford,GM,Kia Hyundai,Lucid, Rivian and Tesla ALL have active recalls for battery's on extant models... 😮😅 all the three years or older electric cars I know of are parked on disused airfields, leasing company compounds, or, for a small percentage, sat on a dealership forecourt 😮 not even the Manufacturer wants to get lumbered with the depreciation 😅
I was talking to a Highways Agency Traffic Officer, at Hilton Park Services the other day. He said they are changing to EV;s in 2024. They'v been told they will have their towing capacity dropped from 4 tons to 1 ton and their patrolling milage at least halved during their day because of the range reduction of going from diesel to EV. I wouldn't swap my diesel Kuga for anything electrical.
I am extremely happy with my 2023 Mercedes C43 AMG, a technical beauty with a lot of power and torque that makes me feel as though I am the king of the road. Please listen to THE MACMASTER and think before purchasing an electric vehicle. Do not say you were not warned.
I have had 11 Mercs in last 15 yrs or so. Happy with most of them, and know C43is a brilliant motor. I agreewith your comments on EV`s,the problems seem to be increasing daily. Interesting to see the Hyundai written off coz of battery damage after running over debris, what a joke.Yes folks, do your research, and a lot of it , before you commit.
As an American, I am glad to know that our politicians have not cornered the market on lunacy. The sad part is that it has permeated governments worldwide and that is scary. I have decided the only way I would ever consider an EV will be when the POTUS limousine, Air Force One and Marine One are all 100% electric powered. Only then will the world be a better place.
All them excessively sugary cups of coffee, latte, cappuccino etc and snacks you take whilst charging is probably more damaging to your health than the tiny amount of pollution from cars.
I'm charging up for Christmas Oh, I can't wait to see those faces I'm charging up for Christmas, yeah Well, I'm plugged into that line And it's taking some time But I will be there I hum this tune To pass the charging time away Juicing up my car Charging up for Christmas It's gonna take a while, but I'll get there Cables coiled up around me Oh, I got charging lights all around But soon there'll be a full charge, yeah Get my wheels on holiday ground So I charge for you Though it takes some time When I get through And feel you near me Juicing up my car I'm charging up for Christmas
Another EV nightmare journey. Let’s all digest this and drill down the fact that EVs aren’t the future just yet especially in long journeys like this. Now I need a rest after watching this😱
As great as EVs might be they are far from being the vehicle for the roads today. As with everything these days the governments all believe that if they so so it will happen. The major issues with EVs are simple. 1. Few and far between charging stations. 2. Charging takes to long. 3. The overall cost to own an EV and to maintain it. 4. The fact you can't take your EV just anywhere for repairs. 5. And this is the big one, battery's. The cost is far out of the range of the average person. 6. No one including environmentalist are even considered about the fact that building an EV isn't environmentally sound. 7. The world isn't ready for EVs as far as the infrastructure is concerned. We will need from 3 to 5 times the amount electrical power in order to charge more and more EVs. It's an idea where little thought was put into what it would truly take to incorporate. The world isn't built for EVs and it would be far to costly to make the world an EV world...
6 minutes and £46 to put enough diesel in my Volvo S60 D5 Polestar for over 600miles of range, driving to the east coast and back without stopping, apart from short toilet breaks. I think I'll keep my diesel car haha
My local council has got a new electric lorry for their recycling collection scheme. It had trouble getting up the hill to our large estate and had to have a rest half way up. Driver said “should have bought another diesel”. What numpty thinks it is green.
We weren’t forced to buy mobile phones, we bought them because we wanted one . Battery cars are not practical in the real world are they? They won’t sell !!
Ford USA have apparently stopped making the EV with 92000 un ordered vehicles just standing there. The CEO of Ford has said he is now going to give the people what they want…..the combustion engine. I sure hope the news report in the USA was right. 👍👍👍👍. 😀😀😀😀
A dealership in Derby got flooded and loads of cars ruined, the dealership told people to claim off their own insurance, one person had an EV on ramps but the battery had been removed and was on the floor underwater, the car was ok with it being on the ramps but the battery was ruined, They got very little off the insurance for the write off value of the car, they lost out over 30,000. Now if that was an ICE vehicle it would've been about £80 for a new 12V battery, job done 😂😂
Why would an ICE vehicle have its 12v battery on the floor? The EV could have had its 12v battery on the floor. I don't understand your comparison. A more similar situation would have been an ICE vehicle with its engine or gearbox on the floor.
Two years into EV ownership and find it easy and stress free, Lee seems to have problems every time he goes anywhere Maybe it's Lee that's the problem or it's all just created drama to feed his vocal RU-vid anti EV living in the past followers?
I hate to say this but that’s why Tesla built up a charging network before it started selling the cars. It’s taken them over 15 years to get the supercharge network to where it is now. The UK charge network is about 20 years away from that it’s pitiful. Should have bought another Boxter. Don’t worry though. Synthetic fuel is on the way. It’s in formula 1 next year. That’s all it’ll take. Good video. But I feel for you putting yourself through the stress.🙌👍
We're from Manila & what we have here is the Nissan Kick's e-Power Hybrid that's electrical car that has ICE on board connected to a generator that's when you're using the car & the battery goes low the ICE turns on & charges the battery on the go without needing to stop. So when you get home at 3am, you don't need 8hrs to charge for tomorrow, you don't need a home charger or go to an out of the way charging station thats occupied when you get there. The ICE is low displacement so it's very economical on petrol. And it can go very far on battery alone. I hope more car manufacturers make cars like this using hydrogen internal combustion engine. No more range anxiety.
When the law in the UK now states that 22 of 100 sold cars must be EVs or their will be a fine of 15k for every car. This will increase to 80 out of 100 cars sold by 2030...
Filling up my tank with premium diesel costs £1.649 x 50 = £82.45. And it never gets that empty in reality. But I could achieve 750 miles plus driving at steady 60-65 mph. So £59 for a 200 mile range is a expensive hobby I’ll pass on.
Honestly, I don’t know how you do it! My range gets down to 300 miles, I pop into the fuel station for 3-5 minutes, depending if it’s busy, fill up, and there I am, with my 7 series and a 750-800 mile range…
You will note that Gas stations have full covered roofs over the pumps, these electric stations want you to stand out in the pouring rain well pluging in electical connectors.
I was on the brink of buying an electric motorbike to use off road instead of my Honda CRF 250 which these days upsets the walkers and it's too stressful. At the last minute my friend reminded me that we always ride about 30 miles to the mountain trails so I'd have to buy a van (probably diesel) to get it there instead. Phew that was close!
Lee, you’ve got more patience than I have, I just couldn’t cope with that experience and range anxiety….it’s mad!! I shall be sticking with my 4 year old Volvo………DIESEL
At 19’48” when a silver X5 poked around the wall behind you, my first thought was “Geoff has been tracking you and is going to pounce and act smug again!” And Lee, the solution is very simple of you want to keep your lady, get Geoff to buy you a couple of very cheap diesels to keep one at each address for when the Porker is dead! Apologies for the weird typos that my postings keep exhibiting, my Bluetooth iPad Keyboard is rubbish and keeps losing connection and I suffer pred-text fatigue!
Yep! They don't want us peasants travelling around. EVs and CBDCs would give the evil doers total control over us. Hope enough wake up and stop their evil plans.
Thanks for this inspiring video. Keep up the good work. My own chalellange: make it until retirement with a diesel. I am 56 years old and have to drive 160 km everyday to and back from work. No way I am going electric, no way.
Hello from the Welsh American Channel. Just want to let you know that we Welsh Americans are also interested in what is going on in Wales even with electric cars! Cymru am byth!
It's not often I watch a one-hour-thirty-seven minute video. I wasn't about to dash out and buy an EV, but nevertheless, now I need to de-stress. Phew!
All this 🐂💩 about charging to 80%. How many people only charge their phones to 80% or tradesmen their tools to 80%? Maybe Quentin & Kryten need to change their show's name to the 80% charged show😂😂😂
There seems to be some strange ideas about the 80% "rule". Some feel it is a matter of politeness. Others that it is about battery health. Neither is correct. But at about 80% charging really slows down. Charging to 80% is a fast as charging the last 20%. If your time has no cost, go afhead. Sit around and wait for the full charge. I usually charge to a full charge at home at night when i dont care about the extra time. But it you are in a hurry? Stop at 80% of less, then charge again later when you can get the last 20% quickly.
@@mvoetmann1 Or you could just save yourself a load of money & hassle and drive an internal combustion engined car. EV's are a complete waste of time and money.
We use apps like ABRP ( Abetterrouteplanner) that does exactly that. The app plans the route and indicates where to stop and how long to charge at each stop, with drive times and charge times given to show the total. Usually, it's best to stop at 20% charge and fill no more than 80% as charging slows down afterwards. On long trips, the plan will usually be for 150-mile 'legs' so that charging and coffee/meal/loo breaks coincide, and no time is really lost in charging. Lee refuses to plan like that so that vids can be made showing a drama instead. We know that there are still problems with the infrastructure. But nothing like he claims. And every month more hubs open.
I was an EV owner - Audi E-tron 50 Technik which I bought new in 2020, and here are my good / bad / ugly real world experiences and thoughts. First off, do I like the car? yes, very much, I love the way it drives, and can find very little that I don't like about it. Have I bought another EV? (I changed the car at 3 years old) An emphatic no I did not, and certainly will not until the charging infrastructure is vastly improved. So, here we go, I was told by Audi that the range of the car was 193 miles on a full charge, that turned out to be untrue, the most I have ever been able to get out of it was around 165 miles in the summer, in winter that goes down to more like 130 miles, and the charge time increases. (I will admit that there are cars now with better claimed range) I hear Tesla fans saying "should have bought a Tesla" sorry, I wouldn't buy a Tesla for a couple of reasons, I just don't like them, I think they are ugly, I hate the interior with that huge iPad type screen, and (not from personal experience, but from speaking to several Tesla owners while waiting at charging stations) questionable build quality. I would say that over 36 months of ownership, I wasted more than 600 hours of my life (an hour a day 4 or 5 days a week) hanging around at charging stations waiting for my car to have sufficient range to complete my journey - I travel the country in the course of my business. "Should have planned your journey more carefully" I hear you cry, believe me I did plan as carefully as possible, yes I use Zap Map, that oh so useful app that forgets to tell you that a charging station is not working, or that your planned charge point is occupied by other drivers wasting more hours of their lives. Why do I need to download different apps for different charge points? when I used to stop for petrol or diesel, I could fill up in a couple of minutes, and pay with contactless card. I didn't care too much about the weather either, if it was pouring with rain I could fill up under the shelter of a huge forecourt canopy, I have lost track of the number of times I have been soaked while waiting for the charger to authorise the charge, why are all the charge points out in the open? Finally, cost, I have a home charger which is fine, marginally cheaper than ICE fuel, (For now, what's going to happen when Tax on ICE fuel starts to decrease, higher tariffs for those with home chargers?) on the road charging is at least equal, and in most cases more expensive than ICE fuel. One minor point, I have probably negated any potential cost savings with the money I wouldn't normally have spent buying service area cups of overpriced coffee.
I have recently purchased a diesel Volvo XC70 Luxe, absolutely fantastic to drive, no charging hassle or stress, total comfort. EVs are certainly not for me. JimN
Thank you for showing us all the pitfalls of owning an EV, have watched so many of your videos, and you are correct they are not the future, they are expensive and the network is nowhere near capable of being practical considering only about 5-8% use an electric car, and they are not green by any stretch to produce. As for charging costs, wow how that has gone up in the last few years, one of the arguments for owning an EV was the cost of charging would be so much cheaper, not when it costs £50 for 180 miles or so, insane. They are a good alternative if you can afford one, have your own overnight charging port, happy to pay cashless, yes it has it's place, but not to push it mainstream on everyone. Being forced to pay cashless is a big issue for many, also you need a smart phone, not for me. And what is all that about the charging stations being with no cover ? Why? Thanks for the videos always try to catch them, and tell others about your site. If it was not for your videos I would not have known about all these problems and costs, as the propaganda machine makes it all look so easy and cheap and green, good to see the reality, or at least a different view, where people at least have the information to make an informed decision. Where is all the extra mining of metals for the batteries going to come from to sustain the vast majority of motorists using EVs, the figures do not add up. How is that green.
This video just backs up my thoughts for the past few years. Why are governments pushing EVs ? Also why push to scrap old cars ? Neither of the above is environmentally friendly. Hydrogen (white) is 100% the fuel every government should be pushing not just the Hydrogen fuel cell but the Hydrogen engine .
When I bought my current car 3 years ago - i vowed my next would be an EV. Definately won't be doing that now. Sticking with my 3.0 V6 Diesel thank you
EVs are ok if you just want to nip to Tesco now and then or the odd 20 miles but £70,000 just for a shopping cart you could get a decent VW polo for £3,000 no brainer
Mac, boy am I glad I switched from my Mg pure electric to my HS Phev. Local electric pleasure plus long distance petrol flexibility, and it will self charge and maintain battery level at about 50% if you want it to, for the loss of a small amount of Mpg. That is the future for me. And about 25% of the cost of your Taycan
Hi Lee 👋 Very interesting regarding ev ownership. Just as a reference, I own a Suzuki Swift (2023). This is my third one (I am a driving instructor). It is brilliant 😂. It has a 1.2 mild hybrid engine. Even with the type of driving it does , the mpg is 58-60. It is also super reliable. Not one of my Swifts has ever broken down. I holiday in Cornwall each year with my young daughter. It swallows up all our luggage and is surprisingly smooth and quiet on faster roads with fantastic handling and steering feel. So maybe mild hybrids are a good option. My car brand new was £16k with options but I do get a driving instructor discount from Suzuki. Love the look of your Porsche though, although not as much as a 911 😍. Take care. Simon. (New Forest).
I've used a chorded electric lawnmower since 2014 (I knew better than to get a battery powered). I thought my mower was inconvenient. It's nothing compared to the inconvenience of this car.
@@Jacob-yb6bv yes. I know I researched this extensively before I bought. The thing that decided me against battery powered was that the can burst into flames when being charged.
As you sat in the services in Mesham (A444) I could feel your frustration ! Dark, wet, cold and trying to get your connection. Can you imagine a man or woman of say 50 years old who is not tech savvy going through all the hassle of finding and using a charger. Then sitting there in the cold as the heater would make the charge time longer (can you have the heater on when charging?) Nightmare and for what?
Firstly the cost of new cars is way out of the average working class or younger persons grasp. The idea of hunting charging points then waiting around while charging and potentially wasting money to kill the time again is crazy. apart from new builds the high percentage of inner city or terraced homes do not have a home charging option. I have A 2 series Diesel BMW i dont pay congestion charges and i get great miles to the gallon so ill definatley not get a EV and dont want one. keep up the great work
I'm the sort of person that refills my car when it's down to a third of a tank so the range anxiety of an EV would drive me nuts. I had one as a courtesy car a while ago. It was ok, the instant torque is very addictive, but if you use it the range goes down the wazoo.
My hybrid self charge is currently saying 80 miles and I need to go out today, I'm stressing I can make it to next fuel station, which is 10 miles away....imagine me with an EV 😆
Dear Lee, i really felt sympathy for you, at the end of your video. What im curious about, is what made you consider an EV in the first place ? I own a two year old Mazda MX5, and im not anti EV as such, but they just leave me cold. There is no driver involvement with them, their just clinical and serve a purpose. Im just wondering, what made you consider getting one.
Look back at his early EV vlogs and he often mentions the idea of electric is a good one but the charging network isn't up to scratch, he's had porche cars in the past so went for electric.
