In this video, we drive some of the historic, original segments of Route 66. Many areas of roadbed appear just as they did in the 1930s. We start in at Lucille's station outside of Hydro, OK and head east into El Reno.
Along this drive we see: The abandoned Hinton Junction Courts and Cafe, the recently reopened Brookport Pony 38-span bridge over the Canadian River, The 1932 El Reno Cutoff, the American Giants, and areas around downtown El Reno. Locations are in Caddo and Canadian Counties.
Several segments include the notorious Lip Curbs. The half-height curbs were an experimental design to channel rainwater. However, the proved to be unsafe as cars could hit them and were more likely to flip over than with full height curbs or no curbs. This design was discontinued for future road construction.
