Driving Over 1000 Miles To Get An Old CJ5!

In this video I travel over 1000 miles and 21 hours to pick up an old cj5 from Virginia! A good friend of mine bought it for a project but decided to pass it on to me. He named it the “Stinky Chicken” because it was a chicken coop at one point and I think the name will stay. This is a really solid Kaiser CJ5 and I’m really excited about getting it back on the road!

I found a 1964 CJ5. Been working on it, one little thing after another, for 4 months. You landed a great vehicle. Mine has the F 134, and yes it would be nice to put a bigger engine in it, but as long as it runs well there is nothing that sounds as iconic as the F 134. When it revs up, it is an awesome sound. There is no way I’d change it. It came with a Warn Overdrive and 33” tires, so it will run on the road comfortably. I have to stay off the interstate, yes, but around town - WooHoo! Give the 134 a chance. It is the heart of that Jeep. Thanks for the education I have gotten from you. Looking forward to what you do with this.

What a great find. Of course you'll get many suggestions but I'd do a ground up without any mods. Fix the rough body parts to stop any further rust etc. Recover the seats and keep it stock. Great channel and video as always.

Yay!! I'm happy you got an early CJ5!! I love the Jeep. You asked for suggestions, so I'll give mine. I love all early CJ5's, stock or modified, but I'd take out that F-head right quick. I KNOW you would love a dauntless....more than enough power and kinda stock-ish...but it really transforms the Jeep into a great driver, and it sounds like that's what your looking for. Whatever you do, I'm sure it will be great and I look forward to watching it happen.

I'm Virginia born and raised and spent plenty of time wheeling in a friend's Scrambler but the real reason I'm commenting is how the background sounds brought back so many memories. No Cicadas where I'm at now and haven't heard one in over 20 years. Thanks for doing what you do and sharing with us.

Leave it stock, maybe better brakes. I have a '66 CJ5 with the V6 in it. I parked it thirty five years ago when the body got too bad to drive it. I drove it for three years through two North West Indiana winters with just a bimini top and a snowmobile suit. Had a blast running mud bogs, trails and sand dunes. Now my seventeen yr old daughter has started to tear it down to restore it.

Nice survivor! I would rebuild the brakes, fix the floor, fuel tank and exhaust, tune it up and call it good. Maybe fit a period correct winch if you are going to seriously wheel it. Those Jeeps are amazing in stock form and what they won't drive through the winch will pull you out of. Whatever you decide, I know it will be great...

Hey there Man, great video. I have been watching some of your videos now for about the past year I like the way that you try to keep things on a budget and build things simple when you can. I don't know if you watch many RU-vid channels your self, But here is the names of a couple channels that I believe you will really like and find helpful and interesting. Fitzee's Fabrication. In New Found land. Canada. And Rat Rods for Africa. In South Africa. Thank you for all your videos, Keep up the awesome work. Tim from Wisconsin.
