How's things I know this video is getting on a bit ha.But I just want to say today I done my D1 test and passed with 2 grade 2,s,When I done my lessons and was asked signs and rules of the road I froze I watched he'd your videos this morning before my test and it really made a difference the quick tutorials .Thank you for your content and effort. Page 63 of the "Rules of the Road" under "Driving at night / Daytime running lights" states: "If your vehicle is not fitted with daytime running lights, you should drive with your dipped headlights on during the daytime." Key word is "should" which means it's not required by law, but is advised. I moved here from mainland europe from a country that has this as mandatory, and am a bit sick of people trying to correct me, whereas RSA says you should use dipped lights if you don't have the automatic or daytime driving lights :)
All good but if you're supposed to be in the left lane of a 3 lane motorway, then wouldn't that make it much more difficult for cars coming onto the motorway and also those who want to exit...I like the middle lane :)
That doesn't really make sense, at least not in the real world. It's perfectly fine to move to the middle lane to allow traffic to merge and I've never heard of anyone who got trapped on the motorway because they weren't allowed off. I'm sure you've got a terrific imagination but maybe we'll keep things real.
Hi Dane! Can you also please make a video on how to prepare for a test with an examiner who has a different Irish accent? Donegal accent for example. It will be a big help to foreigners and Irish people who struggle to understand different accents.
The reason why i am suggesting this was due to my experience. I almost passed the test and answered all the questions both situational and road signs perfectly with the help of all your videos. Unfortunately, i got an examiner who had a difficult accent which i was unprepared for mentally. It was very challenging to understand the instructions since the windows of the car need to be almost half open due to COVID restrictions. I made mistakes twice at the junctions which made me lost my focus. But i want to say thank you for all the helpful information that you have provided. I will definitely promote your videos to anyone who is looking forward to take the test.
Rules of the road mean nothing in Ireland especially in the Dublin area. This is rich coming from a country that once gave full driving licences to people who never did a driving test in their lives and some people who never drove a car. Unbelievable but true.
In case someone needs to study before the test. Q: What's the rule of the yellow box? A: Don’t stop on the yellow box unless you are turning right. Q: Clearway rule. A: The clearway is a part of a street where no parking or stopping is allowed with the exception of busses and taxis. Q: What's the amber light mean? A: At the traffic lights the amber light means you should stop unless it is unsafe to stop. Q: What's the flashing amber light mean? A: As a driver you must give way to pedestrians who are on the crossing or nearby. Q: What does zigzag mean? A: Means that you are coming closer to a pedestrian crossing. No overtaking is allowed. Q: What would you do if you got dazzled by lights of an oncoming car at night? A: You would look to the left verge of the road, don't look directly at the lights. If the car is behind you, flip the rear mirror. Q: When would you use your dipped headlights? A: You would use the dipped headlights if there were oncoming cars, you reduce from full bean to dipped, in a well lit urban area, in bad weather such as fog, rain or snow. Q: How far should you stay behind a car in front of you? A: On a dry day, 2 seconds behind the car. 4 seconds if it is raining and 10 seconds if there is heavy rain or snow or ice. Q: What's the speed limit on a motorway? A: 120 km/h unless the signs dictate otherwise. National roads are 100km/h. Rural roads 80km/h and in town 50km/h or 60km/h depending on the signs. Q: What's the lane you should drive on a motorway? A: Left lane with the exception if you are overtaking someone.

What are the situations that I have to look to the blind spots. Because I thought my self I did that exactly as the road rules book said but the tester said I did not did it. but I am sure that I did it. how I will show the tester what I looked for if he get his chair back and he can't see my face??. thanks again realy the video is great. Motasem HA Hello sorry to hear that you were not successful, the blind spot must be checked when moving off from a parked position but it's very important to make sure you look over your right shoulder behind you, not beside you, this is a common mistake. Motasem HA there should be no need to check blind spots turning right but it does depend on the situation, if you are changing lane it is certainly a good idea to give a quick blind spot on the relevant side but only if it is safe and only provided you do a quick sideways glance, because you shouldn't take your eyes off the road for too long. Hi Dane, I have a Full B Licence with 78 ( restricted to automatic). Will my driving test in a manual car be 100% just like a regular test or will they be mostly checking my operation of the Clutch and Gears? ( As I already passed the driving test before ) Thanks :)
The manual test is more or less exactly like the automatic, it's not a case that they are checking your gears and clutch use more than they would in an automatic. If you are a capable driver then the tester will presumably be expecting you to not have any major problems in this area.
Dane Tyghe HI Dane, in Ireland and UK inside lane is lane 1, or driving lane. In UK you can pass on inside even if traffic in not conjested. On M1 N.Ireland there is no offense on nearside overtaking yet I'd find it strange if it is an offense once you cross into the Republic! Also in the Road Traffic Act 2012 it states you can overtake on left if you intend to take the next last turn and indicated to do so. I cannot see how taking the next left would be any safer than going straight. Also in exception three there is no interpretation of "slow moving traffic" yet the RSA say you cannot overtake if traffic is moving at "normal speed". So to me that means maximum speed. In the Rules of the Road dealing with motorways it states "Only overtake on the right unless traffic is moving in slow queues and traffic on your right is moving more slowly than you are". The only words to say it's an legal requirement are "must" or "must not". In this section it does not use those words. Until the RSA make it clear and precise on the rule on overertaking on left I will stay in the driving lane, for if I was to pass another vehicle it would be that driver who would be committing the offense of lane hogging. The RSA's interpretation of slow moving traffic is "stoping/starting". That is not a speed. Personally I think that's an insult to give to drivers who are willing to aim for a high standard of driving. Sorry for going on and on.
+Leone Messi Yes I understand what you mean, normally I would advise people to not overtake on the left unless on a one way street and slower traffic is in the right lane, you could also overtake on the left if you intend to take a left up ahead or if the car in front is turning right. But like everything it depends on local circumstances like road markings etc..
Dane Tyghe Dane, as I thought so myself about legal to undertake on one way street. One carriageway of a motorway is also a one way street. On other roads I cannot understand how it can be illegal unless you are taking the next left. How can taking the next left make it legal yet going straight not. Last Sept there was a question on the journal.ie "How well do you remember the rules of the road" The question 5 on when can you overtake on the left? The answer was "when traffic on your right is moving slower'. Even some Gardai said this but for some unknown reason the RSA say otherwise.
I am not Dane student but I am one of the follower, Unfortunately, not pass, please look in the road rules book page 52P, 122P, 183P, and see that we should check the blind spots in turning right. the way was empty completely and I thought I should check my blind spots but that did not work with the tester. my constructor said i have to look, my friend said that he failed two times one because he looked to the BS and one because he did not when he was turning right. and the tester said I should not check the blind spot in turning right or left, it seems there is somthing hiding or not clear for me her. anyhow, I thought I should share you what happened.

That's a pity, sorry to hear that you were not successful, as I mentioned yesterday there should be no need to check blind spots turning right ( or left), the most important thing in those situations is to be observant of the main road. All situations are different but usually you would only need to check blind spots moving off from a parked position and a quick blind spot if changing lane.

You are right, it is in the book and I understand your confusion but I feel that the book may be a bit misleading. There really is no need to be checking blind spots when turning left or right but you would perhaps do so on busier roads and if in two or more lanes and perhaps if there was a cycle lane. It's a difficult one to answer simply because there are so many possibilities but I hear what you are saying.
that is right you said that, but as the road was empty and no dangerous to take a glance I thought it good to do so. specially that the book said I should check the blind spot. in general I did well. some friend they said this center is more difficult than others. I am not sure if that is right, but also I do know if it is??
Motasem HA All you can do is learn from the experience and try again, some test centres may have a higher pass rate, others could be more difficult. You can check out those pass rates on the RSA website. What test centre was it?
