The firm I've been working for has the new merc. I like the Ebrake, if you stop push down on the brake hard Hold will appear on display. Then as soon as you accelerate the brake will turn off, good for stopping at traffic lights.
This* it took me a good week to figure that out lol the tiny air tanks that have to be charged before you can release the park brake used to drive me mad 😂
I used to drive a 69 plate Actros with the screens etc. I loved the adaptive cruise control in traffic, you could follow the vehicle in front to a standstill, then press the accelerator when things started moving and it would just follow the vehicle in front at the distance you set. The only thing with it is you could sometimes find yourself down a few mph until you realise you’re following something going a bit slower! I liked the hold function. The mirrorcam does allow a much better view at roundabouts but overall I prefer mirrors.
The last Merc I drove was in the 80s for Linfox Transport in Sydney, on supermarket bulk deliveries. It had 3 pedals, a roadranger gearbox and manual wind up windows. Geez you young guys do it tough.
My major gripe with the centre console is that there's no physical switch for fog lights. Fumbling through touch screen tabs is the last thing you want to do in low visibillity situations. Other than that I love our Mercs. PPC works like a charm. Just remember to deactivate the "Interurban" - system, as it tends to age badly, with most companies not updating their fleet.
Nice to see you back and doing good Raul and a great new truck drive safe and goodbless you and the family always and the same to all the lovely people in here
Mansfield other Month now Shirebrook. Hope the guys at SD we're good to you. My old work place now I see it more on RU-vid than I do in person for obvious reasons 😂 Great video as always 👍 I drive an Actros most days and I enjoy driving it to be honest.
LOOKS TO ME LIKE THEY HAVE TAKEN THE SCREENS STRIGHT OUT OF THE CURRENT CARS AND I AM SURE YOU CAN APPLY THE HANDBRAKE THE SAME WAY YOU RELEASE IT WITHOUT PULLING THE HANDLE 👍👍
Hi Raul, good video, mate. As always you give a good insight on the electronics and updates. I've got cruise on my Toyota Hybrid and it cuts out in heavy rain. I think that the manufacturers advise not to use cruise in the heavy rainfall. Cheers Michael.
most of these trucks are not designed for us big boys. i always have to have the seat deflated on the floor to be comfortable except for some scania and volvo.
I love the luxury in the Merc trucks, but the most annoying thing is the electronic handbrake which doesn’t release automatically even on an incline. You have to step on the brake first!
When stopped pull the electric park brake, switch to neutral. Just before pulling away switch to drive and the truck will go into auto hold, then press accelerator and the park brake will disengage automatically.
Hi Raul, thank you for your videos. I’ve been watching most of them. I had my licence for nearly a year but struggling to get work apparently because of lack of experience. What agency do you recommend to get work? Thank you very much
Drove 71 72 plate Actros for 7 months. The only good thing about it is it has spacious cab. But I'm not tramper anyway. Gearbox is not suitable for driving in town and clutch is very harsh. Heavy steering. Good shape seats but material is awful. Those tablets - you have to open a menu to open another menu to switch something on/off Yours got mirrors I had cameras. Image quality on 71 was awful and water was flooding camera all the time. But on 72 plate they fixed it by fitting new cameras with rubber protection from rain drops. I know you don't like MAN trucks but I'd pick new TGX than Actros L
I guess you can still feel all the bumps :) I was driving a newer volvo last year and it had the speed limit on the dasboard, Im not sure if it was the same
Raul, that filter on the dashcam... Was it an ND filter or a CPL (Circular Polarising Filter) which is designed to remove reflection from the windscreen? Seems odd to have an ND filter on a dashcam but they regularly have CPLs.
I've driven many Mercedes Actros & Axor, from even early days -never had problems. Great ride even at 44tonne (cut my teeth in bedfords & leylands!). Far better all round Than the hated MAN with its useless auto box & breeze block mirrors! Not keen on tablet dash though, too much scrolling which is as dangerous as using a phone- eyes off road!
Mirror cams are crap on Mercs. They can not cope with rain or LED lights. Frankly they are not much more than a gimmick in my opinion. I drive the older Actros and new cab regularly. The older cab is far better. Even the tablets black out. I tend to turn off all those driver aids like power train predicted crap as this is not to be trusted. If you have any sensor fault coming into a roundabout the system shuts down. Best the truck be driven by the driver in my opinion. I had one with defective batteries. First I lost mirror cam screens in lane 2 of the M4 overtaking a slower truck. Then the tablets went black. Then the truck died. It applied the handbrake itself !! So blocked the lane and nothing I could do not even get out the cab as I had no view of rear traffic. After an hour if havoc and police not being very happy with Merc the Merc fitter failed to repair. Another hour to get a wrecker then the power went so low the handbrake came off by itself so truck had to be blocked. Gearbox is new software. Under revs and panic revs down hill. These new Mercs are all well and good until power issues. Then they are unsafe
I like Mercedes over MAN. could be better the seat. It has to much play. Mirrorless not a fan though. Nice video. Oh forgot. Do not wash it to hard as paint comes off really easily. 😊
@@Raul689 i know about that one. It is the back that moves back and forth. I thought it is a defect but it isn't. But i like to drive it. Not as bulky as MAN
We have these in 69 plates, absolute hellish after an hour of driving. So uncomfortable and a few times now an electrical fault where you lose the mirror cams. Apparently merc are doing away with heavies, only a handful of places in scotland will service them
To be honest Raul after 2 years of driving the mp4 it's even put me off mercedes cars 😂, it's strange how the model your showing has no mirror cams, wonder if they have realised they are rubbish, think ours are designed for local rdc work and not 700 miles per day
Probably personal taste, I driven for 6 months this lorry and i can say for me it was very cheap plastic feeling around in cabin, quality more seems renault than mercedes …
Does it still throw you around like a rag doll in a tumble dryer?? Cab and seats that bounce around all over the place Am back in a Scania after a year in a Merc and the drive and ride are soo much better,
It's a nicer ride than the old model. But time will tell if they start bouncing around after 500k You can't beat the driving position on the Scania mate 😄
In America, Freightliner is 1 of 2 low end trucks. International is the other. All that tablet dash kit is in the Cascadia trucks and, it's awful. Always an issue in one way or another.
The AI/Digital stuff in cars and trucks is evil, don't sell away your compliance or self-control to outside entities. **You** should be in control of your own vehicle.
Part of driving a modern truck is to know how and when to switch off the helpers, and when to lean on them. It all comes down to reading the manual, really.
i think it's trying to hard to take the responsibility away from the driver too much sensors can fail but a human won't unless dead 😂😂 i also think the new DAF dash is much better .
