When you realise that everything you rave about in a SuperCar - noises, feeling of speed, engagement, etc, etc …. can be found in an old shed of a car for a fraction of the price 😂
@@simonhughes7382 I had a Lotus Elise S2 111S as my daily driver for 2 years (before kids) - on paper, noisy, not massively quick, rattled, etc … but as an experience- way better than anything I’ve had since
I Really think you and Amy should do more videos together its such a perfekt vibe, maybe visit her and her husbands jag garage i see so many similarities!!
My second car was a 64 850 Mini, I’m 6’ 2” and fit in it OK but I was a bit skinnier then. Fabulous little car, drove all over the UK in it on camping holidays. The sense of freedom and independence it gave me as a young lad was amazing.
My first car was a classic mini and I still own it today! I’m so glad you enjoyed it as most people don’t realise how incredible they are until they drive one!! I think I can confidently say they are one of the most fun cars to drive on a twisty road hands down!! Will be taking mine on a full European tour this summer for my honeymoon and can’t wait!! 🙌
We drove our 79 mini 3100 miles to Italy last year, from UK to France, Belgium, Germany to the Nurburgring, Switzerland, to Imola and back via Turin for some Italian job fun, the mini performed really well, and with mx5 seats it was comfortable, all for the Italian job charity with other minis, a great adventure that I would recommend for any classic mini petrolhead.
Love this…. Love Amy This was like a Wallace & Gromit adventure- thanks again for another fun show with one of my favorite cars. Amy was a great sidekick-
Crash safety, the complete lack thereof, is a nightmare, but man... the original Mini ROCKS! My love for these cars have lasted for the majority of my life. The sound of the A, how they handle, and the looks... They are amazing.
My Dad bought my sister a Mini Cooper S back in the 70's as a graduation present but she never got her license until years later so it ended up being Dad's....he absolutely loved it and we loved getting driven around in it. It was always a blast because he would literally wring it's neck....the handling was mind boggling!
This looked like a great adventure. The FAT Icerace goes on the list of events I need to attend at some point. Also, thanks for making me aware of Amy Shore - she is an amazing photographer.
Cripes. You're reminding me of being eighteen again. Red mini 1100. White roof. Somehow four of us used to cram in to travel around Kent for days out, nights out etc. I look in original mini's every now and then and ponder how that was possible. Was a great time.
So cool for you to experience a real Mini. I owned a Mini Moke for a number of years as a second (Fun) car and still regret letting it go. It was a 1275 moke California and a blast to drive. Smiles per miles or, in my case, km's.
I had one of these, back in the day, and loved loved loved it. I sadly decided after driving it through 2 Scottish winters that road salt was going to be its demise and passed it on... I always thought it would make a great second car! a fun-day car! This video is exactly that!
Its hard to explain the appeal of owning and driving a classic mini unless you've experienced it. Your enthusiasm in this video summed it up nicely. I've owned lots of minis since my first aged 14/15. My latest has been a 10 year bare shell rebuild and it'll be on the road again this year.
Great Video! Your smiles say it all. Classic Mini‘s are great fun. I‘m Lucky to own a Ferrari 360 and a Classic Mini 1000 side by side. The 360 was my Dream car for 20 Years, and the Mini was my First car as a daily 20 years ago … which, of course , rusted away right under me bottom….got one back and I love it just as I did 20 years ago. The big surprise to me: the funfactor, the direct steering, the drivingexperience, and the smile… i find the 360 and the Mini surprisingly similair! apart from speed and power, of course. And, ok, sound…😬 I love them both. Looking forward to your next video!
My sister has one of the 2000 ‘Cooper Classic’ models like the one in the video. It’s arguably the best all round Mini they ever made. They MPI system makes it so useable and it fires up instantly, even when it’s been stood all winter. Just a shame that right at the end of production they were so prone to rust due to the cheaper materials
I was so excited to see this video pop up. My favourite Car RU-vidr and my favourite classic car. I’m so glad you enjoyed the mini. I own one myself and would never change it ❤
Ah this was awesome, I’ve had a few minis like this over the years. Last time I considered buying another one was when I was reading about Amy’s adventures to Shetland in hers. When she appeared on screen I actually laughed in surprise 😂
@@amyshorephotography3759 it is! The funny thing is that I heard about you because of a link to your dad with the car art. And since then you are popping up here and there more often. The internet is a massive place but the world is small 🙃
I love how the Rally’s steering wheel was floating around during the instructions period, not to be outdone by the “comfort” seat belts 😊 The light weight, toss ability, and exhaust note reminded me of my TR3 from around fifty years ago. Bye bye GT3?
I've always driven Minis my first one was a 1989 998 Mini City which I had until 2000. My current Mini is a 1995 1275 Mini Cooper Spi that's been modified quite a bit. As soon as I get behind the wheel it makes me smile 😁 Minis definitely bend the rules and rule the bends 😎👍🏼
Great vid and what a nice idea Mini had to send you on a trip to the ice race in original Minis - with a cool partner on top of that, hope to see Amy again on this channel. The old Minis and Abarths clearly should be on your classic car shopping list, even if it s just to infect your wife with the classic car virus...there s few cars that deliver on this purpose as reliably as they do ;)
Mini's are another world of greatness. I have owned 3 of them and all very different. A 70's Clubman, a 90's bog o''basic and then a Mini Cooper RSP which I drove from Glasgow to Brighton and back once fitted with the Cooper S package by John Cooper Garages. See if you can find yourself a Mini ERA Turbo to drive.
My first car was a 91 Mini Neon 998cc, (im now 39 so lilely one of the last of the my first car was a mini brigagade) the thing took me everywhere, Many London to Brighton runs, biggest was 1000 miles in a week, nothing drives like an original Mini what it looses in power it makes up for in flat out handling, used to love winding BMW drivers up on the back roads, i miss it and the mini comunity dearly.
And to think - this just shows how INCREDIBLE the original design was, when very very few cars even met the same size, internal and performance. Japanese micro? Fiat 500 ?
Ha - signs of the time - well established and knowledgeable influencer - but you've never driven a Mini! A right of passage in the motoring world! Glad you enjoyed it! :)
These cars defy physics, they are actually larger on the inside than they are on the outside, kinda like the Tardis. The new Minis dwarf them. Back in the early '70s I kept a Mini panel van in London for when we visited her parents. It slept two... I'd love to have one now!
Ah Sam, what a trip!! Fair play to you for picking up the little quirks cars of that era have. I bought a 1968 Cooper that was used as a rally car and converted it back into a road car. I am still learning how to try and get the thing started on the first turn of the key, trying to balance throttle, choke, thinking how many Hail Mary's I have to say 😅😂 I would have paid to see Tony sitting in the passenger seat for the trip, he would have been as miserable as anything. Yes cars like this don't have any mod cons, or sometimes, cons even. But they offer so much of an experience, I love driving my Cooper, barely turning the wheel and the car just dives for the corners, as if it's telepathic. I bet that Rally Mini would have been serious fun, if you could give it a real rip down some of those mountain roads. The extra lightness and power would transform the experience. Oh, and would love to see much more of Amy. What a brilliant co-driver/driver and she seemed to be a really sound and easy going person as well. Perfect for a road trip and extra bonus points, as she also owns a Mini 👍
I used to own and drive a Cooper S back in 1970. Slightly tuned engine etc but also adjustable suspension with negative camber front & rear. The reason why the steering felt sharper than the later model was that the Cooper S used a special high ration rack. it also had the "rifle bolt" remote control gearchange. They were brilliant to drive but are ludicrously over priced now !
I was lucky enough to have a Tahiti blue mini new in 2000 at 18! It was the small 12 inch wheel model which to my eyes looks so much better. White strips, 2 spots and white roof - loved it.........went through 3 gearboxes though!!
I drove my 185hp turbocharged classic mini 300 miles in one day recently. It was definitely an experience but fair to say I won't be doing that again! Extended seat brackets definitely help though 😁
Drove Little Linford to St Tropez & back in one, same colour 1974. Apart from one night in Paris, two large boys slept in the car & drove back with no windscreen. Got lost in London.. I did all the driving because my cousin couldn’t work it out . We didn’t speak for some time after the event.
I’ve raced caterhams, tracked an Exige extensively, driven a 458 including on silverstone, and my mini race car is a lot more fun than most cars I’ve driven
Glad to see the state of the streets in Munich is similar to ours in the UK! Obviously adjusting 'static' seat belts was beyond you and Amy....its an age thing! Very pretty girl, btw. I used to rally these back in the day, before I got tired of scraping my bum on the road and switched to Escorts....they are tremendous fun.
