Today's video gives you a look into one of our recently updated classes on Map Pilot Pro. Earlier this year the folks at Maps Made Easy released their updated version of Map Pilot Pro. Some menus have changed, new features added, etc. It's safe to say that Map Pilot Pro does a great job at data collection for 2D and 3D drone models.

When doing a structure should u take extra shots of it so it can come out better in a 3d model or should it be uploaded just like the option of it gives u looking down and follows the rought

Additional images are often helpful. Orbits to capture facades. It takes some practice to capture additional data but it’s with it

This video was GREAT, I own a small drone photography startup business in Iowa and I actually found out that I had grossly underestimated the amount of points I would need to process the map model I had created as a test model. I had to down size the model and even then, I had to buy points because it was large enough that the demo did not cover the plot of land I was demoing. This is a great video for how-to, I would love to know if you have one to show people how to integrate maps made easy with the drone software(DJI and some of the others) for one-button flying. I didnt have any issues with this part of my demo with maps made easy but that doesn't mean someone else might have the same luck. All in all, great video, thank you again!

Good morning. Glad to hear the video was helpful for you. I'm still confused by their point system myself. Mostly I use WebODM and Metashape these days. If you're looking to practice making models you might want to check out WebODM. It's open source (free). They have an installer for Windows and Mac ($57) and you can practice on models on your desktop. Very convenient.

@@AZ-Drone I recently did a test flight with Map Pilot Pro on my Mini 2 and I created a 3d model/rendering with Metashape, only because that is what I came across on RU-vid and it looked easy enough to do. I was not sure what to do with all of the Map Pilot Pro output files and how to view them, outside of their low resolution preview. Is WebODM the best place to do that? Also, what do you recommend doing if you want to share the 3d model with the client?

Can you run a map with maps pilot pro then take images over to webodm to output the map?

Yes you can. I use WebODM and Metashape with the images I capture from map pilot pro. 😀

I did a quick flight around my house, just using Map Pilot Pro for the mission and then dumped all photos into Metashape. It created a nice model. Now, I'm just curious how I would share that with anyone.

@@JoeBoone82 You can export the model from Metashape and host it on a service like Sketchfab. I use that site regularly. You can send sharing links from it, or you can get an embed code to pop it right into your own website.

Thank you for this video! My question is, can you measure elevation/slope rather than guessing by looking at the colours of the TIF?

Another question - can you control the drone while executing the mission? Can you move it manually around or land it while it is still doing the mission?

When doing a mission you want to let the drone complete it. Yes, you can stop the mission, and resume the mission. When the mission is stopped you can manually control the drone, and then resume the mission after. But why would you want to do this? Normally I let my mission run, and when completed Map Pilot Pro will fly back to your starting location.

@@AZ-Drone have you heard about birds (one reason of many)? We have some very fast predators here. Manual control sometimes could be the difference between a broken drone and a successfully completed mission. It is extremely important to have control over the drone all the time while it is in the air.

@@nscworldmax348 You made me laugh this morning. Yes, I've heard of birds. My apologies, I was trying to figure out why I might move off of a mission, and your point is well taken. With most autonomous flight apps out there, you can stop a mission and have full control of your drone. And yes, I too have had bird encounters. Where I regularly fly I have one particular species of birds that pursue my drones. Humming Birds! I'm not joking, we've had some very aggressive Humming Birds come after our drones over the years. I have many videos where they come right for the drone!😀

Good day, Rich, Do you know a way to change exposure of photos and process them with Maps Made Easy? I flew Mavic 2 Pro over a 600 acre solar farm using many missions. MME output is jagged and distorted. I did not take note of camera settings. The day was sunny (great for solar farm!), and the pictures are over exposed. When I darken the photos in Lightroom Classic, MME tells me the images cannot be used. Any suggestions?

How accurate are those elevation maps? Did you ever check those elevations with a laser? I just made my first elevation map yesterday but I don't know if I can thrust this data. same with stockpile measurement. how accurate is that?

A few factors will come into play if you're looking for accurate measurements, etc. A big part is whether or not you're using Ground Control points for the job site. If you get accurate control points you can be more confident with your final data and model rendering. And to get accurate control points you'll want to look into a "mapping grade gps" or a "survey grade gps." They can get a little pricey, but if you're working for a client wanting the most accuracy possible, they're worth their prices.

Yes, had to pay for Map Pilot Pro. The data you collect with Map Pilot Pro can be used on WebODM, Metashape, Pix4D and more. You don't have to run your final models with Maps Made Easy.

I'm sorry to hear you had issues with Map Pilot Pro. What drone were you trying to use with Map Pilot Pro? Some drones are not currently supported by them. Did you setup a flight mission before connecting the drone to Map Pilot? We don't use Map Pilot Pro for FPV (First Person View) flights, we always use it for pre-setup flight missions for 2D and 3D models.

I had a little trouble as well. I was not sure which item I should turn on first... Map Pilot Pro app, the DJI remote, or my drone. It took a while to figure out, I'm not even sure of the final order of operations, but it finally took off on its own!
