The long term benefits of owning a M3OT are unlimited. . With the availability of thermo it surely changes the game. Your videos from the start have steered me towards my life changing business. Following your advice I turned my regular Joe real estate photography business into much more by acquiring my 107 a few years back. You even helped me decide on which drones to invest in all the way up to the M30T. I love all your reviews as they are on point. Transitioning from real estate to solar panel inspections both residential/commercial has made every dollar spent worth it. In two months I made the investment back double. Yes the M30T is worth it. Thanks for another informative video. Pretty much every LE, search and rescue I have come in contact with wants one.

That leapfrogging with second controller is a great idea! Saves cost of a second drone and is exponentially cheaper with more controllers, if software permits. I mean, to fly 5 miles or so, pass over to another controller, pause to slot in new battery and go again is awesome

Russ, I have watched you posts for a while now and I value your opinions. As such when my department (Syosset Fire Depertment). We were planing on purchasing a drone for the department. Because I had seen your review of the M30T it was a no Brainer. We ordered the M30T. We are waiting for it to come in. Boy I can't wait. Please keep up the great work you do.

Great interview, Russ. I hope it encourages public safety agencies to look more seriously at drone operations for many purposes. I think you are to be commended for helping bring these agencies "into the fold." Some musings on public safety use of drones... There are likely some advantages that could be obtained by public safety government agencies flying their drones under an aothority different from Part 107. 107 is specifically for commercial use, and there are types of public safety flights that are not really commercial. Many people operate under the false assumption that Parrt 107 is all there is. There used to be Part 333 Exemptions for Civil or Government use. I've actually seen a vendor of Part 107 instructions claim that 107 did away with and replaced Part 333. Not true. It was renamed. It is now Part 44807 that has replaces 333. Part 44807 has a specific subsection for governmental UAS operations. It provides a means of a COA Exemption to allow operation in the NAS. 107 has some very specific restrictions that require getting extra permissions AHEAD OF TIME in order to fly some types of missions. A COA under 44807 gets very specific. The agency has to develop its own set of training guidelines, operational procedures, documentation, etc before an exemption will be granted under 44807, but once granted, anything within the operational plans allowed in the agency-developed plan are approved. Night time. Over roadways or train tracks. And more. The point is the agency developed details, if done comprehensively, can provide more flexibility in legal operations than flying under Part 107 rules can provide. It may not be for everybody. But public safety agencies should be aware that COMMERCIAL Part 107 operations may not constitute the totality of missions they might be called upon to fly, and that if they want to be legal about missions that may be outside the constraints of Part 107 flights, the Part 44807 may well be the better option. The FAA has a fair number of examples of successfully received COA Exemptions so that agencies can get a good idea of how to formulate their plans. When pilots, for instance, have completed the agency's training program for whatever their scope of missions may be, they are recorded on the agency's roster and that is their legal permission to fly that type of mission for that agency. The agency sets the specifications, develops the checklists, the procedures, the record keeping and logs of missions, hours, and pilots. All has to be done according to that approved plan. If not, the operations would revert back to Part 107 restrictions. My main point is that for agencies that need more flexibility than what may be provided by Part 107 operation, Part 44807 operations may be a better alternative. And, contrary to what some Part 107 flight schools may claim, 44807 does exist as an alternative to Part 107. YMMV.
@billfarnham1592
@billfarnham1592 2 года назад
@@chriskelvin248 Yep. Used to be Part 333. Now 44807. A number of the 107 schools will tell you nothing else exists.

Given that DJI is a Chinese company, security concerns should be taken seriously, especially when these drones are used by law enforcement!

One thing I wish the battery technology would have is much longer flight time such as 1 1/2 - 2 hours. Another pet peave I have is line of sight. We know where the drone is. We have a map, we have readout that tell us how far and high the drone is and we have a screen that shows where it is. We also look at the flight time left to get it back home. I know people do fly it out of sight but they have control of it. Thanks for the interview.

Hi Russ, I remember the first video review you did with the M30T. This was a great follow up review and knowing that they have this drone as part of their kit albeit thanks to you and the community I can only envision how this will assist not only the agency but the community in general. Maybe this could be another avenue you could open up, reach out to departments, find out what they are using, how they are using it and has it been a worth while investment for them. I guess if the drone finds a lost person then the cost of the drone has been justified. Once again great review, great follow up on the initial story

What are the current regulations (and while we're on the subject, the technology as well) for implementing leapfrogging with multiple PICs/ controller units. As in: how do you hand off responsibility of who is the current PIC, line-of-sight, everything that comes along with FAA compliancy?
@51Drones
@51Drones 2 года назад
The tech is easy. The RC Plus has the ability to switch control with the touch of a button. As for regs, there really are none specific to that.

I remember wanting to fly that location while I took a break from driving to Bismarck and I recall something like class e up to 100ft. Also, I remember thinking that flying fairly close (relatively) near the hospital/prison might get me harassed a bit and didn't want to deal with it while I was just taking a little break. Though, it would be a different story for them since they're sheriffs! Will be interesting footage regardless!

It would be interesting to see some thermal from this, such as hotspots or search and rescue. I have started a business and am looking at getting one of these for inspections of solar arrays and wind turbines, but also want to use my skills and equipment to help search and rescue or wildland firefighting crews when needed as kind of a way of giving back to my community. I would be more interested in seeing hotspots if they could share some because doing a solar, or wind turbine or commercial hvac inspection you would be looking for hotspots that are well defined.

A question (probably for DJI) I have is, even though this is a newer drone, since it doesn't have the transponder that will be required by manufacturers after September 16, 2022.... if I wait until after that date, will it be integrated into this drone then? Ever since this drone hit the market, I've found it to be the ideal investment, but not quite knowing what will change when transponder requirements go into effect is making me hold off. Do you have any insight? Thanks in advance! I use drones for public safety in a different way, flood protection (levees) around the New Orleans area.

That is a nice drone. We are a police department in Florida and unfortunately cannot use any Chinese made drone after December 31, 2022, per Florida State Statute. We tried out the Parrot Anafi USA but decided that it was not for us. We are now considering the Autel Evo 2 Pro thermal which is assembled in USA from gobal components Since I am the chief pilot, I am tasked with the job of locating our new drone. We have a Mavic 2 Enterprise which I love to fly. Are there any other agencies that are facing the same issue?

Hey Russ, I'm in law enforcement and I'm trying to convince by PD to get the M30. I've reached out to DJI to get a demo or more information, but I haven't heard back. Also, a few people in my chain of command have a negative view of DJI for political and "security" reasons. How do I convince them? Help.

@jamesshippIII
@jamesshippIII 2 года назад
Greetings GL....$10,000 for the non thermal Edition and $14,000 for the thermal version. Add to that the need for extra batteries for the quad and for the controller, a 3,000 watt generator for out in the field portability to keep those batteries charged, Props, control sticks, etc. as well as Insurance costs after the 1st free (Shield) year of service, which no one mentions or has disclosed the annual cost of. There are other add-on accessories that will be necessary to perform S&R missions like lights and PA/ Speakers etc. none of which come cheaply. Indeed funding sources can help to allay costs but I really want to see someone fly it in the rain, or actually use it to apprehend a suspect using the Hub feature. DJI knows how to advertise and hype up its releases ie. the Mavic Enterprise Line that was found to be Woefully lacking in the Public Safety and Infrastructure Inspection arenas. A friend of mine just received one of the thermal editions and while we truly love the beauty and grace and many features of this quad, after having purchased all of the item I've mentioned above he is well over $20,000 invested in the M30T already and still counting. So its not cheap and I just hope it fares way better than what the gimmicky Mavic Enterprise line was. I love DJI drones and have most of the consumer drones as there are non better in my view but sometimes it just bothers me that their marketing methods can leave so much to be desired. I've learned that when drinking from "the DJI Well" one should test deep.

... the problem, of course, is that local law enforcement agencies have been known to be havens for some very bad actors. Corruption, prejudice, perversion, stOOpidity (see Uvalde) etc. are not uncommon. Putting surveillance equipment in the hands of a wrong-headed cop WILL lead to tragedies. Very strong legislation MUST preceed the wide distribution and use of drones by law enforcment.

@@51Drones I would disagree, currently a warrant wouldn't be needed, if you are one mile away. Over public property. But the sensor is pointed at private property. And this sensor has zoom capabilities strong enough to look clearly into a window. New warrant laws will need to be in order.
