Here’s some meanie bo-beanie hardcore from the murky gutters of Atlanta, Georgia. This hardcore demo is probably gonna be one of the better ones you’ve heard all year - mind you, this is coming from someone who ain’t all too hyped on hardcore to begin with, so heed my words when I tell you that this band is really, really goddamn good. This tape just genuinely wowed me through and through, from the cathartic aural discharge that is “Blue Lives Matter”, to an oddly-proggy mindmelter, “I Forgot To Remember”, that is inexplicably interjected in the midst of the otherwise-scathing seven-track EP; barring that sudden shift in tone, this tape is just a non-stop slew of punchy, pummeling anthems that refuses to lessen its grip around your throat. Out of all the hardcore bands you cheesebrains regularly fawn over, you’d better make sure that Drool is one of them because it’s almost sickening to hear how much these guys rule. Shit, I think I can feel my heart palpitating. Anyone see my Xanax anywhere?
Now, the group’s vocalist WAS kind enough to provide a good amount of information on his band. That’s good. The thing is, all of the information was presented without a lick of punctuation, meaning it’s essentially just one giant sentence. That’s bad. For the sake of legibility, I went ahead and tidied his shit up and made it a little bit more readable, though the majority of it is still in his own words. I’d reiterate all the information myself, but… I don’t know, I’ve got shit to do. Here you go:
“…Drool started because my best friend Seth and I wanted to start a band, and this is basically our first. We got together and started writing some stuff, “Forgot To Remember” was actually the first song we wrote and recorded. I was writing a lot of it on bass with my spare time. Our friend, who is Seth's roommate, is an amazing drummer, so we thought it would be appropriate. We wrote about half our songs that way. I wanted to do vocals for it since the beginning. We got our friend Dylan, who moved here from Austin, Texas, to play bass in the band; he was in the Blotter and Prince, and some other really cool bands. He’s just a talented guy and he’s the sweetest. We recorded a four-song demo at our practice space and made a small run of 10 tapes for a first show back in, like, early June? But basically, what we have now is all the songs we have done up till this point, so we decided to release it as a demo tape. My roommate, Rob, recorded it all in our basement, he is fucking amazing at recording bands and basically records all of the great bands here in Atlanta. We have about 100 copies of them - for now - and we have a 10 day tour set up starting January 1st, which goes through the south to play the opening day show of This is Austin, Not That Great fest with a lot of really amazing bands. We have a lot of stuff planned for Drool, we’re already writing for another release which will hopefully be pressed into vinyl. We are JUST a bunch of angry weirdos.”
We honestly could’ve just left it at that last sentence, I imagine that’d cover just about everything worth saying about this killer band. Drool roolz.
