I haven't used a drop shot rig for at least a few years! I only used 1 plastic on the mainline, I used to use it at Greens Lake but didn't have much success due to all the weeds lol. I like the way you rig up 2 plastics that seems to work really well
Awesome, I reckon it would be too. I have never caught squid. Something that I've always wanted to catch. Scott and I tried back in November, but as Brett would say "No Bingo".
GOOD VIDEO. GOOOOOD VIDEO. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOD VIDEO! Haha. Looks like an awesome way to catch them. I’ve never used that rig before, I’ll have to try it 👍🏻
I have to say the same as many others here; I've never used that rig before. Great to see some reddies getting caught, pity you seemed to miss out on a feed. Lovin' ya work robbie.
I often find that when using a paternoster rig when one fish hits a hook then others are more likely to hit the other hooks as they start flicking around. Sort of like a feeding frenzy. Very effective for whiting in saltwater and snapper and reefies when out deeper. If you can extend your loops it prevents line bites which can be a major cause of getting bitten off.
Rather jealous that you're able to get out fishing.! It's been real cold recently here in Scotland so for a while everything was frozen solid. We had a thaw and I was beginning to think I could get out to wet a line. WRONG.!!! Cold weather returned with a vengeance, daytime temps of -2°c dropping to - 10°c at night, and in the past 48hrs I've had nearly 50cm of snow. My rods will be in the cupboard for a while yet. 🤔☹️🏴❄️🌨️
definitely prefer a drop shot rig or even a carolina rig but never had luck with it so far. but the worm hook method definately made a huge differences in my freshwater fishing haha
Takes me back to when i was kid having a clue how to tie a knot same as my main line couldnt afford new line so i would tie a granny join it back up made for crap casting though 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'd love to mate but they're not as good as they use to be. Most if them have dried up several times over the last few years. I was fishing one the other day and didn't see a fish. Just because I don't have a video from those creeks doesn't mean I haven't been trying mate. 👍👍 Hopefully an epic rain event will distribute a few redfin around again.
Hi Robbie, thanks for the great drop shotting video, I will try it the next time I fish for Perch here in New Zealand. I enjoyed your Redfin filleting video, it seems more efficient than the way I have been doing it. You don't remove the pin bones!! How big would the Redfin need to be for you to remove the pin bones?
Thanks so much mate. I have filleted eedfin over 40cm and they have never really been a problem for me mate. Perhaps they cook out? Once the fillets are off it is quite easy to cut them out if you need to.
Hey, thanks for the reply :) It's food for thought. Yesterday I had some fun. At a river mouth I was targeting Kahawai/Australia Salmon for the first time. And I got lucky, I caught a 4 pounder. Both me and the guy beside me recognised it as a Kahawai (means strong in the water), but when I filleted it, I discovered it was actually a sea run brown trout. My first Brown Trout! lol
Hi Robbie, rig seems so obvious once one sees it. May I ask your thoughts on how effective it will be on other types of lures? Eg spinners, rattlers. Im assuming any inconcistency with the sinker dragging may affect lure motions too much. Cheers bro
Hi Pat, I have caught redfin on it with a certain. That's how we use to do it as kids. Whether the celta was swimming properly or not I am not sure but the redfin still hit it.
Thanks John. I am really enjoying it. The butt is a little long for my liking, but aty the same time it helps me to leverage my casts a bit further. For $150 I reckon it's a great rod mate.
Hey Robbie I have a Black Queen Deluxe 2.4, 6- 12lb rod if you want it its yours, it needs a new rod tip and still has plastic covering the cork handles I live in Alexandra Cheers Gary
Hi Gary, that it might kind of you to offer me that, thank you. To be honest though mate I have one here that I don't use nearly as often as I should. I have a Black Queen and a Black Queen Deluxe. The deluxe is a beautiful old rod.
Hey Paul, no mate. Because of there noxious status, they have been removed from any regulations. No closed season, size limit or bag limit. It is actually illegal to be in possession of live redfin as it is strictly prohibited to relocate them, however you can put them back alive after you catch them.
