Anyone who selected a thumbs down should be respectful and recall the thumbs down. I believe Isoyama Hiroshi Shihan deserves more respect than that.

I was there, it was amazing! There was also a 92 yr old who demonstrated as well. Aikido is a purely defensive style which makes it very unique.

For those who never experienced aikido don't judge a book by its cover. Aikido is about flow and body movement. They are so subtle yet so affective, that the untrained eye fails to see the whole dynamic process put forth in every technique; in every foot step. So those who say that his opponent is slipping, or playing it out you do not know anything else but to simply judge with ignorance.

Amazing power from Shihan Isoyama Hiroshi's hara. Most Aikido masters either use arm's muscles or body's movements to generate power. His demonstration is eye opening. I will call him a Jedi as in the Star War movies.

82 years young! And for you haters, I know of at least one street fight in which a guy was lifted and dropped to the ground. Fight over!!! Isoyama-Shihan and the late Saito-Shihan were true Ueshiba-Ryu Iwama Aikidoka, and they are among the few to have their ukes seeing stars at these All-Japan demonstrations.... Just saying...!

They are supposed to cooperate for the sake of the demonstration. At 1:04 the attacker made a mistake in the movement so the sensei kind of hurt him without necessity in the face. The usual movement uses the arm against the neck/chin to keep the opponent in the flow of his own energy, not an arm attack in the face.

It depends on the ryu-ha. Techniques names in Japanese are basically rough descriptions of something that happens during the technique, but the nomenclature is far from standardized even within the same martial art.

@@chess747 You're right, people don't attack like that. Those attacks are intended to be as generic as possible so the practicioner can identify the basics and apply the techniques accordingly, they're not intended to represent a modern fight

Hannover Fist I’m gonna have to respectfully disagree.......... Aikido doesn’t work and I think it comes down to sparring. Martial arts that do not have a true full sparring aspect are generally ineffective for a lot of reasons. For one thing aikido has been training like this for over 70 years which means it has been trained without resistance causing the art to evolve into a useless state, if it were ever effective in the first place........ which I doubt. On the other hand I see no reason why it shouldn’t be trained for other reasons such as preservation of culture....... this is just my opinion for what it’s worth.
@79kmac
@79kmac 5 лет назад
Aikido is purely defensive. Other martial arts are more offensive in nature. The attacks you see don't represent punches, they represent overhead sword thrust because aikido originally was used by samurai to defend against samurai. That being said, I find the joint locks and throws very effective if you can effectively perform the techniques. Also if used in conjunction with a offensive material art it would be extremely dangerous.
@pollinirr
@pollinirr 4 года назад
@@mullm5375 Sparring isn't real also. You have rules and can't do some techniques to hurt the other, even the MMA had rules to follow and forbidden hits. In the real-life, with a gun in your head every martial art it's a lie and it depends only in your ability as a martial artist. Remember that every lesson that we practice in a Dojo/Gym (regardless of the martial art) it's fake because it's a learning and space-controlled place, so it won't work in real life. But you can apply them in real life to find a solution, it won't be elegant or John Wick's fight with gangsters, but maybe it may work.

That was a good example of how NOT to do Aikido. I am by no means an expert in Aikido but when I compare his movements directly to other Aikido-ka's and their movements, it seems like he is too slow, he needs too much time to execute the technique. His movements are stiff like he is a rusting machine. People doing a martial art their whole life just move different. Just my two cents.
@79kmac
@79kmac 5 лет назад
I disagree. A demonstration would be pointless if he moved too fast for you to appreciate the techniques. Also, traditional Aikido is very different from some of the off shoots you may have seen. Each technique requires precision and accuracy to perform and are very painful and dangerous. Eventhough his opponents were highly trained if they were done too hastily injury would inevitably occur. Speaking from experience I almost had my hand broken by a practitioner working on his speed and simply moved too fast to avoid hurting me.
@KraljCorvin
@KraljCorvin 5 лет назад
@@79kmac Ok, so stiff movements are good? And no, I can't see any real precision here. His partners are literally jumping whilst in other choreographed shows they really fall. Here, in this particular case none of his "partners" had their balance thrown off. I even watched three videos simultaneously to make sure that it is just not my biased opinion (I am normally doing boxing and wrestling). Compare this video directly to the footage of Ueshiba Morihei, you will see what I mean. This guy here also is at least injured on his leg.
