I’ve studied Japanese for years as well as worked as a translator and interpreter, and I was shocked hear Seagal’s Japanese. I thought he was going to speak broken Japanese with an American accent, but his Language skills were actually legit. 😳
@@Hlebka met a lot of Westerners who lived here longer and spoke way less Japanese. Some can speak, but it’s rare that they speak at his level. Plus given how arrogant he usually is in his interviews,I wasn’t expecting him to be as good as he is so that gap in attitude and actual skill level surprised me.
I’ve been saying that for years! As a Japanese speaker myself, I was really impressed by his speaking abilities. He gets a lot of hate but you can’t fake speaking a language with great proficiency.
@@juniyananajukyu exactly! He definitely worked harder than most to get to that level. He definitely didn’t just stop at learning a few phrases and basic conversation like most people do. Definitely in the top 5-10% of foreigners that speak Japanese in my opinion.
The Steven Seagal I met in Chicago years ago (before he was fat) was humble and polite verbally but his body language clearly told me how much better of a man he thought he was than I. Kind of eccentric but still cool...highly intelligent and very well spoken but has clear cut issues with needing to be the dominant male in any setting. I believe this is where most of his lies come into play. I even thought he was lying to me about some minor arbitrary thing at one point in a casual conversation. I do believe most of the bad stuff on the internet about him. It all reflects the common behavior of a person lacking self esteem, very evident in the man I met.
He is eccentric that's for sure. He is very accomplished in martial arts and found success in Hollywood but at the same time has some clear personality issues. Watching interviews with him he is frequently in a very disinterested mood, seems very distant, and sometimes comes off as very rude. He almost seems like he lacks social skills which sounds absurd given his life history, but that really is how he comes off sometimes.
@Real Aiglon lol! That is EXACTLY one of the moments that lead to me making that comment!! It came off as odd as it did rude. Another one he was being interviewed about an MMA fight and he took a call right in the middle of it and just turned his back on the interviewer. Just strange behavior you would expect out of some weirdo.
His teacher simply said "we accepted the challenges" he didnt say ANYTHING about winning....lol re-watch this video a few times and nobody said anything about winning. The part of this video that said "he couldnt be broken" is easily misinterpreted as he won that fight. This video doesnt validate anything. Some schools took random challenges some didnt
@@phoenicianathletix2866 No needed, You have watched enough time for me and many others. Thank you for taking the time to do that for everyone. Yeah, it might be misinterpreted. The way you are talking like you know the outcome of those challenges. Do you?
When your a martial artists who "takes challenges" the outcome of the majority of your fights becomes your reputation. Not the facade or image your trying to portray. He chooses to speak "cryptic" about his encounters versus simply sayin "i defeated the top fighters from 8 of the 11 schools that challenged" like any other fighter would. It was a breathe of fresh air when he brought a style of fighting to the big screen that was not based on flashy kicks or need for a stuntman. People only question his victories because of him speaking on the legitimacy of other fighters.
Do you know the origin of the photo on 0:35? It is a very young Steven Seagal, but not with Hiroshi Isoyama but with Noriaki Inoue, O Sensei's nephew and pre war student... First notion of them meeting, especially as Inoue Sensei was known to be very seclusive and even Aikido journal founder Stanley Pranin had a tough task to be accepted and given interview..
Seagal became an Omoto (the religion of OSensei) believer after he married his first wife and got to know Naohi Deguchi who was the Spiritual Leader of Omoto at the time. She and Noriaki Inoue (also an Omoto believer) had a very close relationship as I understand it so that's probably how they met.
Mr seagal is a true master of aikido he has respect and honour to his art of aikido and his sensei. Mr seagal would be the only American that decaded and trained with all the original aikido masters in Japan. I am a big fan of Mr seagal.
Except that some of the aikido masters seagal says he trained under, where long deceased at the time seagal has been quoted as training with them. Like his story of his son and Brandon Lee being the same age, that Bruce Lee learned from seagal and vice versa, seagal was 19 when Bruce died.... hardly time enough to be an aikido master, and his biggest lie.... that Brandon Lee's mum and sister rang seagal the day Brandon was shot on set, that seagal said they'll find a bullet in him. Both Brandon's mum and sister deny this and in fact deny ever meeting seagal.
But did you actually study and practice everyday? If you are determined and work hard then you'll be fluent. A lot of very determined people that I've seen become fluent or almost fluent in 3 years.
@@couchpotat1180 My ex wife was non-Japanese, most of my work was in English (as my client’s counter parties are always foreign) and I have many Japanese friends. So no, you are right: much of my time here was spent not practicing / speaking in a language other than Japanese.
Correction, he is very inauthentic thats why he gets hate. Some of Segal's funniest lies are regarding his time with Bruce Lee, or his time with the CIA, or literally anytime on the casting couch.
@@eastafrika728 Who? Steven Seagal? If so. Yes. In his prime he was a big guy so I am sure he could hold his own against an untrained fighter. Against a trained fighter he would've been taken to the ground and brutalized.
Seagal was legit talented and humble back then. I really think that at some point mental illness screwed everything up. If you watch videos of him speaking over the years, he turns from this respectable man to someone who lacks social skills and self-awareness. I think people should keep that in mind before they ridicule him.
A number of the sensei's that Seagal associates with are also accused of being fakes in Japan and some of the claims that Stephen has made like training with Bruce Lee are impossible.
I'm guessing it's around 2005 or 2006 because there's a few photos of Steven Seagal and Hiroshi Isoyama together at Steven Seagal's house around that time period, around 2008 Steven Seagal grew his goatee (which really needs to be shaved off)
Convenient to just convert lot of these Aiki schools into Kore(an) Jiu Jitsu. Something real not too unreal, but I found their novel interest and research into this Aiki branch of what I call Hi-Energy MPA versus Hi-Impact MPA or Muay Thai and Kali very great and respectable as well. Imo, I found Japanese Karate as Low-Medium-Energy Hi-Impact MPA, meaning the Spirit is to use a little less to get the effect.
Even if, someone were try to alter the Field through Field of Activity for Karate to change it to Low-Energy MPA, it will nevertheless remain Low-Medium-Energy MPA. Meaning not possible on this.
One of the worst actors ever, recently. Look up all his films after 1998. He's pure ass. Any body can learn Japanese , but very few people walk around thinking they are the baddest thing to walk the earth. He kind of sounds like Trump nowadays.
1:56 "there's some people that are just borned with a certain amount of determination" -Steven seagal, the man who speaks fluent japanese but no one has heard him speak it 1996
don't embarass yourself kid, Seagall speak Japanese for dozens of years, multiple people heard him speak, mutiple times he was recorded and he is actually very very good at it
@@mangopastor I just told you there are videos of him speaking so the fk you talk about. And everyone who speak japanese will tell you his accent, grammar and vocabulary is very good. So do some research for a fkin change and cope harder
You jerk, Kelly McGillis? You mean Kelly LeBrock but LeBrock never said that. She said that she was abused all her life but that doesn´t mean that it has anything to do with Seagal.
@@Katzenhase Salut. Thanks for correcting the name.. Kelly LeBrock made reference to Stephen beating her - up back in the 80s in a television interview. I didn't question the veracity of that particular statement at the time, but simply took it on its merit at the time relatively speaking to be honest. The man unmistakable is a hot - head unquestionably, and he is always running off at the mouth about chuck Norris or Van Damme.. If Mr big mouth was to run into the likes of Mike Tyson back in the day regardless of his aikido skills, and somebody like Mike Tyson made contact with his face or chin, it would certainly be lights out for Mr big mouth !
@@AztecUnshaven Tyson would have literally torn Seagal apart - there’s a reason there are no aikido MMA fighters. Seagal famously challenged a Judo master to try and choke him out - Seagal allegedly ended up passed out and actually shit himself. Seagal is famously full of shit.
How much did he pay the old man to play along. Probably threatened the old chap if he didn't go along with the game. If only Seagull didnt lie so much. He has destroyed whatever credibility he ever had.
Isoyama sensei. He's been teaching aikido since the 60's. I see a lot of seagals aikido is based on techniques thaught by Isoyama sensei. Some variations other aikido sensei don't do.
It's pretty easy to sit at home and eat Twinkies and talk smack, I can promise you wouldn't last one Aikido class being taught by Steven Seagal... You had better be in excellent physical shape or else you won't survive it... I personally attended his Santa Barbara Aikido seminar in 1998 and it was an eye-opener.
@@TRANSPORTKING1988 I'm very happy for you. And you don't know me. But integrity is something he doesn't teach. And by the way, I'm in excellent physical shape and it's not from going to a gym, or rolling around with other men.
@@iandemontfort4276 Isoyama sensei has been teaching bodyguards and law enforcement units before you were ever born buddy. Seagal would slap you around with ease.
Your actions are representation of yourself. Love the videos of guys running at him, not buying it. Not a Buddhist. He’s nothing but self love. That is not Buddhism. Let it go your time is done. Except it.
The guy is absolutely full of himself. Alot people who've worked with him on films have all said the same thing. Either he's lying, or for reasons I don't know they are
@@TJ-fe7rr One of the most respected stunt men in hollywood says because Shihan Seagal made a little contact in his earliest films when he performed atemi waza in order to make the fight scenes appear more real, the stunt man community developed alot of animosity towards him so in retaliation they started a campaign of nefarious rumors in order to strike back at Seagal and hurt his reputation & his career. Like the made up story of Gene LaBell choking Seagal unconscious. Their efforts were very successful because human nature is to believe the worst gossip rather than the best truth. As for the female actresses accusations, those are a different subject. They may or may not be true.
