This is one of two Intamin giant gyro drop towers located in the USA. The other one is at Kings Dominion in Virginia. Although both look alike, there are quite a few differences. At 315 feet (96m) , this one is 10 feet (3m) taller than the one at Kings Dominion and this one rotates on the ascent to the top whereas the other does not. Even though this one is taller, the one in Virginia has an eight foot (2.4m) longer drop because the brakes are located lower down on the tower. This also gives the one at Kings Dominion a greater top speed of 72 mph (116 km/h), compared to 67 mph (108 km/h) for this one.

I was on this ride 10 years ago. I remember being at the very top of the tower... waiting for it to drop. The anticipation is really terrifying... and it was windy and I could feel the tower was swaying back & forth. That was more terrifying than the drop itself.

The anticipation 100% is what makes drop towers so freaky haha This summer I've been to drop towers at Kings Island, Hersheypark, and Six Flags Great America...they all had in common was that the anxiety up at the top knowing that the thing could fall at any second was way scarier than the actual drop haha

After you hear the small click when you stop at the top (which is sometimes hard to hear) start counting to 7. You drop exactly on the 7.

I went to King's Island many times one summer, and it took me a long time to find the courage to ride this one. But the day I did, my stomach was all in knots. About a third of the way up, I was freaking out that maybe I made a mistake. Then it just kept going up. By the time we were at the top, my heart was pounding more fiercely than it ever had before. You don't really understand how high it is until you are actually on it. That drop...it was more exhilarating than any of the other rides I had been on. Terrifying as it was, I immediately wanted to ride it again. I did. Lol, it was more terrifying the second time because I knew what to expect.

This ride is nothing compared to Disneyland's Guardians of the galaxy. That thing shoots you up at high speed then drops you back to where you started, then drops you in a hole, then shoots you up again and drops you back down. None of it is slow, and it throws you up six times with random stops and drops. Mostly in the dark.

I got on this ride with my sister maybe in 2005-2006. I was terrified when I realized how high we were and closed my eyes. She told me to open them right before it dropped and I thought my eyeballs were about to pop out but I enjoyed it. RIP TEE❤

REVIEW: Personally this ride was epic. You slowly rise to the top and get an incredible view like the Eiffel tower. Rate 7/10 scary because as soon as that drop hits, s### goes down. Weightlessness and the full experience for 4-5 seconds. When I went on it, the straps felt insecure but at least they were to protect you, right? If you're afraid of heights, or afraid of brake failure, this shouldn't be on your list xP

Yeah I can easily see how that could happen. The waiting line wraps around under a canopy and you cannot see upward at all until you're walking up to your seat. It's nerve wracking waiting to fall, but the view is spectacular up top! Exhilarating!

Every time i go to Kings Island, I always ride the hell out of this ride. The negative G forces feel the strongest out of all of them, ( falcons fury, zumajarro drop at great adventure and the one at magic mountain) In my opinion. it tickles the tummy so hard when it drops. lol

About 20 years ago I went on that ride when it was new and it got stuck at the top for around 20-30 minutes and they were finally able to let us down real slowly and when we got down the big wigs where out there handing out free admission tickets and drinks and all kinds of free stuff. I am an amateur physicist and I propose an interesting experiment for Turbo Drop. When boarding the amusement ride, take with you a smartphone prepared for filming, a 200 ml transparent plastic cup with 5/4 of the total volume filled with water. Also take a properly unpacked effervescent tablet. Before the tower begins the falling process, add the effervescent tablet to the water and start filming. At the moment of free fall, the gas bubbles leaving the tablet must stop rising and most of them will remain involved in the tablet.

I rode a ride exactly like this in Dubai. When it was ascending I was like “oh cool!” ...and then as it got higher and higher I was like.....I’m gonna die....and then it reached to the tippity top and I thought oh man, now I’m really gonna die....and without warning it just dropped and I felt like my stomach was going to explode! The free fall was only about maybe 6-7 seconds? But it felt like I was screaming my lungs out for minutes!

This must be the Drop Tower in Mason, Ohio. The Drop Tower at Carowinds in Charlotte, North Carolina needs to be designed in the same way. Apparently, both of them were manufactured by the same company because they look exactly alike. Nevertheless, the one at Carowinds is smaller and only has a seating capacity of 16 persons per ride.

I would like to say this ride is NOT scary yes you will be scared but when the rides done you would want to do it again and you do lift up and it feels like your gonna fall out. You wont but this ride is 300 ft in the air so..... and there 7 clicks after that seven clicks are over you drop. And when you sit down your knees will hurt. And your hands will shake like crazy😂

My first time on a same size one of these was terrific yet terrifying at the same time. Not even at the half way mark most people begin to regret it. And on the way down it feels like the skin on your face is melting into your skull and all your organs feel like they are going into your rib cage from the G Force

@Vincent Campanella Carowinds has a Giant Drop model instead of Gyro. This means there are separate sections as opposed to one that can rotate

Six Flags New England has a 200” Drop Tower Ride but they make up for it with the 400” Swings. Riding during the day is not scary at all but when you go up at 10:30pm and there aren’t that many riders and it’s chilly you really feel the wind move the swing. It’s a little scary.

How funny would it be if at the top before the drop, everyone on the ride joined hands and sung "Ring Around the Rosie" and as they sung "we all fall down!" they dropped 😆. (I know im such a moron but im not a GP)

I don't like huge drops, or drops in general but at my home park I'm going on the 230 foot high 100 kph speed drop tower.

BOY YOUR NOT ALONE, AT MY PLACE IT'S A 265 FEET DROP, I'M LITTEARLY LIKE FREAKING OUT WHEN THEY SAY "Enjoy your 265 feet drop! Bye!" THEN YOU START GOING UP.
