The drone shots of the field being cut - sooo cool!! Thanks for stopping for the duck and nest. We did about 4000 bales on our farm in the mid 1970s twice a summer and I am floored at how far the equipment has come. It's like you are in the Star Wars Millenium Falcon being able to drive that equipment backwards. 🤗

Great drone shots, thanks for stopping in time for the ducks, and the equipment today is so great -- I drove a cough and choke lung special with a huge 16 ft header and I swear the top speed was "AW come on, I can walk faster"

After seeing the duck eggs curiosity got the best of me. So went and looked and today there are eight baby ducks swimming in the ditch along the lane. And west of the barn the four Canada Geesse are walking around all proud of their 13 baby Goslings.

When we moved our silage cutting later - back into early June , the curlews were generally hatched, but there were tons of gulls that came to feed on the stubbles and the chicks needed to make it to the edges of the field where there was still cover. Some must have, as the population of curlews remained , at least until we sold up. When we made silage in May the tractor driver used to try and mark the nests before cutting , but even leaving a few yards around the nest probably still gave the mothers a scare. Early cutting is essential to make quality silage for dairy cows , but it isn't very compatible with some wildlife.
@pnwRC.

Hay cutting sure has came a long ways. We use to have to cut with a tractor. One tractor cut it, the same tractor was attached to the tedder, then the rake, & later the bailer. The same tractor was used to pick the bails up out of the fields too.

We had the same issues with our hay bine. Every two rows we would have to get out and get all the dirt out of the header. And we would plug up a lot. It was annoying.
