Thanks for posting this, it's good for folks to see that even the best of us have moments like this. It's also way better to have this experience in a controlled environment than a busy public area.
William Johnson do think oil and other lubricant doesn’t exist on the roadways?learning how to deal with them in a vacant lot or unoccupied area is the smartest way to experience it. Speaking as a professional rider if you don’t want to drop your bike or get hurt riding, don’t ride! If you keep your bike parked that will be the only way to avoid any situations. S’mores, hot pockets, porn and mom’s basement come to mind with your comment
This is exactly the factor that makes riders not so confident. A few weeks ago I drove a recently bought 1996 RK in the Mosel area in Germany with sharp hairpins during rain. Those are a lot of uncertainty factors.. Wet surface, inclined plane, “new” bike.. and a group of collegues with all BMW’s with abs. Just one new skill kept me upright: not minding the group.
My 96 VT1100 slips out from under me with every 90 deg turn, so I can’t always hang with those other riders. I’ve gotta take it slow on turns and sharp curves. Isn’t a tire issue as they’re broken in and also have full tread. I’ve aired down the rear and it helps. Compared to other bikes, this is my scary rider and definitely has given me confidence issues over the years lol I’ve never laid it down, but it’s a fear of mine.
@@juliemunoz2762that’s your IMO some people don’t have the control and need ABS I ride a ‘91 Ninja 1100D and she moves I’ve see n people prolly would have wiped out without abs. I agree with what you said that it boils down to a skill issue…
Even the way He drops his bike looks way better then when I drop the bike! I was waiting for him to jump off and stick the landing 😂😂😂 bro is a motorcycle Ninja
If you look right when he starts to drop his front wheel slides out on the painted white line when wet with drizzle or rain I've seen this happen many of times even myself years ago always have to beware when turning on painted lines on the road when wet...even a bicycle will slide in this situation too...
Robert i understand that now (not pulling the bike down on you) during the Maryland class i pulled it down instead of letting the bike fall on the engine guards. I got it! Nice recover!
Rob thank you for keeping it real with us even how to stay on the floor boards when you fall I have learned so much from you hope to ride with you one day P.S. I always hated that duck walki thing they teach in the MSF course 😂 keep it loaded Bro
Maybe if you have engine guards or something.. I'm not dropping my baby 😅 If you didnt grow up on 2 wheels, riding dirt bikes etc ..then your 1st bike should be a used one.. Dont make your practice bike, be a nice expensive one 😎👍
You're right anybody can get on the bike and ride straight down the road, you always see the newbies and the unseasoned people when the turns come or you're in the parking lot. Makes me think back to a day when the HD's we're parked in front of my house we got ready to leave did you turn Tulane Street curb to curb, my buddy couldn't do it put his front tire to the opposing curb backed up and stranded bike out a little more and then took off by then we are top of the hill sitting at the light looking at him laughing. Glad he's got a Sportster and it's not too heavy. No RG special for him LOL
I dont about oil. But those lines with a little dew on them is 10x more slick. In the real world it's for sure the most slick thing you encounter. I've hit ice before and been super lucky. But I knew that was going to happen.
In 2017, my fiance upgraded from a Softail Deluxe to a Street Glide Special. She was having a difficult time properly turning, both in u-turn and right hand turn situations. For her birthday, about 1 month after she got the SGS, I got her a 1 hour private lesson. She dropped the bike in an exercise doing slow speed turns and did about $600.00 in damage, mostly to her faring. She was very angry about the damage, but she learned how to turn and whether she would admit it today, the lesson probably saved her life many times over the past 5 years. Case in point, when she would make a right hand turn from a stopped position, she usually crossed the line in the middle of the road. She knew nothing about feathering and it was as foreign to her as speaking another language. On a side note, the lesson was in a large parking lot near our home. I listened to the instructor and practiced everything he was teaching her from about 1,000 yards away. I learned from him too, it truly made me a better rider.
Literally the Worst time to ride lol. Oil is on the top right at the start of rain/mist/ect. However, what a great time and place to see and feel what happens when you hit it...
ROBERT! Thank you for pointing out that OIL. This is a PERFECT video. Let people get confident and appreciate that it is indeed about PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE. If WE ALL had the cool reaction you had when dropping at slow speeds WE WOULD INDEED BE THE BOSS OF OUR MOTORCYCLES. Thank you for sharing this Robert. BEST CHANNEL ON RU-vid.
I mean if we are all about honing our skills and becoming better riders, how about take turns wider and lean less when the road surface is slick. You play like you practice.
It takes practice I understand that, but it also takes common sense as well... One is pretty useless without the other.. I can clearly see from here that that is a freshly paved lot, and it had obviously recently rained. Between the rain and asphalt being made up of probably more then 35% petroleum products, you may say to yourself "not the proper conditions to be doing this" 🤷♂️ Anymore so than I'd send a new driver out to the DMV to take their drivers test in a sleet and freezing rain storm...🤦♂️
Not a freshly paved lot and it was a patch of oil. Your motorcycle has more grip than you think on wet pavements. Thank you for watching and hopefully you’re subscribed to my RU-vid channel!👍🏾😊 ru-vid.com
Great videos and very informative 👍🏼 Have you ever made a video about motorcyclists that get into accidents, who may be a bit apprehensive about riding again. It happen to me a few months ago, and being new to riding, I would really like to hear what your input in that is. Thank you! I’d be really thrilled if you respond!
Thank you very much! I’ve had several riders who were involved in serious accidents and were apprehensive about riding. None of them ever practiced before, so we are working on that now. Email me if you’d like to discuss this further. Thank you very much for further supporting my channel by becoming a V.I.Preloader! It’s really appreciated!
Does this bike actually have a feature that senses a tip over/crash and automatically puts on the hazard lights?! I’ve never heard of that, but I’ve also never seen someone put on caution lights when they slipped between the cones in a big empty lot. Not that it’s hurting anything either. I’m just very curious.
It's appears it just started raining. He should have quit practicing slow speed maneuvers in a parking lot were oil from park cars makes it very slick. One thing about the touring bikes, low clearance and footboards helps keep them upright at low speeds if you drop it. .
This happened to me earlier today only a little bit worse because I didn’t have any crash bars. My engine flooded and I had to walk my 700 pound bike back home.
it's even more embarrassing when a girl comes over and shows you the correct way to pick it up off the ground, happened to me practicing in Labelle Florida a month after buying my first Harley.
Very first time I went to my behind the wheel practice for two days on the very last day for the final this exact thing happened to another person. The instructor swore, and then threw his papers with his pen on the ground and ran to help the man up the person was OK although his Harleysystem was messed up, including he lost a few mirrors
What what that saying "A Man Has to know his Limitations" . And that's how one learn it !!! When pushing to far those limits of angle , store to memory so as to not go over them next time ‼️😎🤙
It was a patch of oil that caused that, but I agree with you. Thank you for watching and hopefully you’re subscribed to my RU-vid channel!👍🏾😊 ru-vid.com
No disrespect but it looks like you leaned way to much regardless if there’s no oil on the floor just the are being wet will make you do that. On a sunny day maybe not idk
No I actually did several turns just like that with no issue. You’d be surprised how much grip your motorcycle tires actually have when they are warmed up. Thank you for watching and hopefully you’re subscribed to my RU-vid channel!👍🏾😊 ru-vid.com
Lot of people in the comments that know what happened better than the person that knows the spot and was in the incident 🤣🤣 my damn back tire is too bald for these maneuvers, I'll be getting on it soon
Damn those foot rest are hard af to bend back, great to see u getting practice consider putting in some slider bars they're ugly but useful when doing this
Thanks! Thank you for watching and hopefully you’re subscribed to my RU-vid channel!👍🏾😊 ru-vid.com The bars did their job not a scratch on my bags or pipes. 👍🏾
Not oil that was a freshly painted parking line. As soon as his front tire hit hit it he slid. Ive almost gone down at crosswalks because they are painted. When they are wet its worse than oil.
Thank you for watching and hopefully you’re subscribed to my RU-vid channel!👍🏾😊 ru-vid.com Actually the lean was fine for the wet pavement. I was out there making similar turns with no issue. You’d be surprised how much grip your motorcycle tires have on wet pavements when they are warmed up. Unfortunately I hit a patch of oil.
I'm surprised that happened at that low control slow speed. It's nice to see the baggers can hold themselves up. I scrapped my bikes floor boards doing a sharp corner with the woman on the back she loved it🤪
Yea thats wild. It looked super smooth and normal to me then slide. Just makes me think its going to happen for sure at some point so take it easy and skill up.
Oil maybe. From the looks of it, it could also be that early morning dew/fog on them white painted parking stripes too. Best to practice mid day and dry on a clean lot
