Story time.
About a month ago, I was looking into 1UP-doable levels from the early lobbies. I was particularly invested in A Gift From The Stars, which seemed very doable because like. Time stop. You kinda barely need to do berry train movement in it. It turned out to be something I got deeply invested in, especially after finding out a way to trigger the return bubble of berry 5 under time stop.
And then, I smuggled one last time stop into the final screen transition, and the game softlocked.
Long story short, I was very frustrated that the only possible 1UP in the first two lobbies was a trail that had gone cold at the very end.
A few weeks later, I randomly remembered the bubbles in Dropzle activated independently of the berries. This allowed me to theorize an assisted run where you skipped the return bubbles entirely, not collecting the berries. (I still did this with b2 to demonstrate how a bubble skip looks.)
That, unfortunately, required a pixel perfect YOLO for berries 1, 4 and 5. I confirmed all berries were possible, and realized that a high level player could potentially get a 1UP in Dropzle.
And then i accidentally tripped over one of the bubbles, failing a skip, and somehow the berry wasn't collected. It spawned you a few pixels off ground, allowing you to buffer a jump out of it without collecting a berry. Turns out all the return bubbles in dropzle do this.
So this was how I found out a 1UP IS, in fact, not just possible in the Beginner Lobby, but also very humanly doable.
Anyways this run sucked to actually pull off. 40s of basically an autoscroller, and the big chokepoints (the 10 dash room and berry 5) are very close to the end. And it's a 6 minute silver. There's some cool routing, though. And honestly, it feels like I fluked pretty hard despite all my 2nd half practice. My experience could have been worse.
