Due to the El niño phenomenon, the Amazon region has been suffering an unusual drought. Already considered one of the biggest in recent years.
Lower rivers change the lives of everyone, fishermen and residents, as the majority survive from fishing. There are 62 municipalities in the region and most are accessed only through rivers. With low river levels and high temperatures reducing the amount of oxygen and in these conditions the fish cannot resist, more than a hundred pink dolphins and tucuxis “a type of freshwater dolphin” were found dead in the Tefé lake.
According to local information, the water has already reached 40º.
And what is even more worrying is that this drought could last until January.
