In our first video (watch here: • Best climbing techniqu... ) we introduced you to our method of climbing.
In our second video (watch here: • DRT Mock Hunt for Larg... ) we filmed a mock hunt for you guys from start to finish so that you can get a feel for what it's like when we use this method in the woods.
In our third video (watch here: • How to Effectively Use... ) we showed you the exact technique of how to get into the tree with our method of climbing, including another knot tying demonstration.
We highly recommend watching those videos as well.
This is a very minimalist method for mobile saddle hunters. We are showing you exactly how we climb into large trees with minimal equipment, cost and effort.
This method may not be for everyone, but think of it as another tool in your arsenal. Please watch until the end as there's a lot of information on DRT climbing technique that we believe is one of the safest, quietest, least expensive ways to climb a tree for saddle hunting. I hope you all benefit from our technique. Please like and share with others.
Please remember that climbing of any kind is inherently dangerous. The DRT climbing method has been a standard in the arbor industry for 100 years. But remember It's only safe if you do it right. Ensure your knots are tied correctly and make sure you set every knot before you get off the ground. This is our method that we use in saddle hunting, but only do what makes you comfortable and do this at your own risk.
Feel free to comment down below with your questions, We'd love to help in anyway we can.

A. Probably should just be in the habit of tying a knot on the end whether repositioning or knot. 😋 B. Can you demo the reverse should you find yourself up too high? Or explain if that new termination knot would now go in front of, instead of behind, the existing termination knot on the carabiner. Thanks

Im grateful for this tutorial lads, after I've watched this numerous times I've thought that let's say you had a tree that was 80 feet up (with plenty of limbs up to the top) and the rope you had only took you to 40. Do you think it would be smart to bring a few tethers / lanyard and make your way down from 80 feet to 75 feet then undo from the mainline and undo all your setup to then realine at a limb at 70 feet then make your way down to 60 and vice versa back down to 40 being extra careful and take your time the whole way down in this process are would yous say this would be to risky in that case make sure the rope is 80 feet for the 80 foot tree. I feel it could be achieved if the tree was suitable.

I'm new to this (partly thanks to you guys), but I found climbing with a split tail to work great for this while hanging presets. I get to where I can, hang from my flipline, unhook my biner from my mainline and throw it up and then switch back. No need to retie the blakes hitch while in the tree. I did a couple like that today and it worked great. Love the videos! Keep it up!

This was super helpful, I've been practicing in my backyard and have a few target dead branches I'm going to trim while I'm up in the tree. I've been having issues getting to my target limb because of some tiny sucker branches coming out near the crotch so I can't quite get the rope in the crotch. This leap-frog option is going to be very useful.

could you tie the end of the rope on a karabiner to your saddle in stead of the stopper knot?
@ikke3wie3anders3
@ikke3wie3anders3 3 года назад
because you can relate yourself at any time if you have enough rope right?
@NYSaddleHunter
@NYSaddleHunter 3 года назад
If I was higher up in the tree and had to tie in again to get back down . Then yes you could tie the end of your rope to a second carabiner so when your at the lowest limb you could just clip in tie your Blake’s hitch and continue down. Just make sure when you slack off your high tie in point you pull only the rope through the crotch and not the carabiner in case it’s gets hung up.. Good Luck Dean !

Just curious if the tag end of the line touches the ground is that enough to safely come down or do you need to have atleast double the lenght of rope below you for whatever height your at and is that the reason scott holds the tag end and lets the loop touch the ground before letting go
@NYSaddleHunter
@NYSaddleHunter 3 года назад
Joe when you DRT climb it's a single rope however you utilize both ends of the rope so when you're on the ground you need to be able to reach both ends of the rope to climb, a d when you reach the top of your climb you will will always have enough rope to reach all the way down. This wouldn't be the case with SRT only DRT.
@Njjb122
@Njjb122 3 года назад
I understand just curious say you did go up too high where you couldnt get back down is there a way to reposition to a lower crotch or its only possible to advance higher ...thanks for all your responses i really appreciate it im just trying to get as much info on this i can
@NYSaddleHunter
@NYSaddleHunter 3 года назад
@@Njjb122 sure you could decend lower. Tie in wess with your tether , and reposition your main climbing line through another crotch lower .
@Njjb122
@Njjb122 3 года назад
Can you guys do a video on how to reposition to a lower crotch in the tree
@NYSaddleHunter
@NYSaddleHunter 3 года назад
@@Njjb122 we could but it usually that we climb up to hunting height and tether in or stay on our climbing line. We would not ordinarily climb up to climb down . However we do at time redirect in the tree for comfort. I think that might be something you might get more out of yes we could do something like that

NY Saddle Hunter pretty slick, you think you could just tie a monkey fist in rope on first setup and use that in place of bag and zing it line?
@NYSaddleHunter
@NYSaddleHunter 4 года назад
@@shanedavis6306 yes you absolutely could it's just easier to toss a throwball higher more accurately

Thanks for the awesome video(s) guys! I'm a new saddle hunter, planning on hunting DRT/SRT and you gentlemen have been a wealth of information. I have a couple of questions...and forgive me if they're somewhat stupid, but let's say you get up in the tree, it's super early and dark, you use a monkey's fist to advance from the first limb to the target limb and you realize you went a little too high, and your rope is about 6-10 feet off the ground. Is the process for switching ends of the rope pretty much the same on the way back down and is there anything specific to watch out for? I imagine it should be the same, just a little easier because you can easily bring the tail end of the rope over the limb without having to throw the monkey's fist. I know it's an unlikely situation, but the more I can learn the more confident I will be.
