That was a lot of fun buddy good stuff!! Thank you. For fun I'm going to quote Vince Lombardi I believe said this, practice does not make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect!! Keep your chops up my friend!! 🥁🙃
Hi Kevin, Playing a good double on the bass drum.. the first hit is made with the ball of your foot while your heel is raised about an inch, then drop the weight of your leg on the heel or arch of your foot to make the second beat. First beat should be soft and make sure you let the bass drum beater finish a few inches from the head. Second beat is the tension release as you let your whole leg fall and relax. Stay loose and relaxed always.. in drumming and life. Best regards, Tracy Rose
Very useful lick indeed, thanks for sharing. Just out of curiosity, how did you record the audio? I don't see any mics, overheads, triggers, nothing whatsoever...
Thanx Tracy for analyzing this cool Fill, BUT HOW does it sound in a 4/4 Groove context? Is it Triplets or 16ths or a combo? Can u write it out please? It sounds like a 3 over 4 artificial grouping??
Hi...cool video man...your drums sound amazing but...where are the mics???? clearly there´s one on the kick drum but i don´t see any on the toms or snare...are there only overheads???
Hey, Tracy.....do you have any thoughts on the 'heel-toe' bass drum technique? I understand the concept but have been unsuccessful......do you need a long footboard?
Thanx for the lick, Tracy. It's very nice. Sometimes I alter it by adding the left footpedal bass drum notes on quater notes....sometimes too busy, though.
ever since i heard this fill played by pert, i've wanted to know what it was he was playing. now that i know how he's doing it, i'm going to have a blast trying to master it. thank you very, very much good sir.
@jasonfallon123 Hi Jason, I use the Drum Dial and take the batter to 90 lbs, and the the bottom to 86 lbs. Then I'll make small adjustments as needed. I damp the batter head quite a bit when recording.
I come on youtube looking for licks to learn. Sometimes they are not all that interesting or poorly presented and not easy to understand. I've got to say that you have it all together. The clip is shows a trick drum break that I've I've tried to figure out forever. You made it simple and easy to understand. I was playing it pretty well in a couple of minutes. Thank you. I'm looking forward to your next lesson. -Mike
