I thought so hard about when new Dorico users would be about to write drum parts, seems I nailed it! Glad I could help you out!

@@cjrhenmusic I'm another Finale refugee. Drums were no better in Finale than Sibelius. The mapping was a nightmare. Dorico is so straightforward and, yes, you nailed int!

Wow. Way above my pay grade but may need it in the future. I never learned how to do percussion in Finale. Thanks!

Your videos are so clear and informative! I spent days trying to figure out why Shift U drum cues were not showing up. By default they only show up in part layout, not in the score. Thanks for pointing that out. This is so much easier than Finale which takes at least 5 seperate steps to do rhythmic cues w/ slashes!

I swear cues in Dorico are just so cool. They are the feature that puts new users in the Dorico mindset. Once you understand cues everything else about the software and how it does things differently starts to make sense. Thank you for watching!

Great video! I knew not much about drum notation. But now I have much more understanding and confidence! Thank you! BTW, the on-screen keyboard looks cool and very helpful for toturial. May I know what application it is?

Hey so the midi keyboard is called vmpk.sourceforge.io, if you are on Windows you also need loopback midi www.tobias-erichsen.de/software/loopmidi.html, you select your midi keyboard as the input for vpmk and the output as your virtual midi cable and that virtual device can connect to your daw and Dorico. I use OBS window capture to capture vpmk and you have to crop it and setup the keyboard so it looks good. For the typing keyboard it's an obs plugin and I designed some of the keys myself. obsproject.com/forum/resources/input-overlay.552/ Thank you for watching!

I'll preface this by saying that I have Dorico elements 5: shitf+u doesn't bring up a cue input mode at all on the drum staff. Is there a setting that I need to engage or is that function just not available in elements? Thanks so much!

It appears you cannot use cues in Dorico elements. If you do a lot of drum notation I highly recommend pro, usually there are affordable upgrade licenses so you only pay the difference between elements and pro!

Haha, the leading notation softwares can be intimidating but I promise the results are worth it!

@@cjrhenmusic Sure, it might be lagging in an advanced features sense, but it sure is the most popular and leading in the sense of cleaning up notation and software. And I don't have the budget, even though I still want to learn about professional engraving. Even historical physical engraving and medieval calligraphy and how software is built

@@Neptoid I was just on a live stream talking about the benefits of musescore, you are nailing it, I've actually used musescore for pro gigs, I think it holds its own against Dorico in many rights. You cannot beat the price.
