Hey man, this is so awesome! I've just been given a Scarlett interface and Protools first and I took one look and buried my head in the sand I found it so overwhelming. This video is awesome, very clear and super useful. It's going in the favourites! Thank you very much.
Thanks for this vid Dean. I’m working on a piece right now and I’m really struggling with the percussion parts. I’ve always been impressed by how quickly you can come up with an interesting drums part. Keep it up man :)
Helpful info. How to start, and about simple Rock beat (you should do a 1-3 minute video about specifics of beats for each basic music type/ryhtm (how to setup toms, snare, kick…)about Kontakt tool. Somewhat cumbersome to install all this.
I'd like to see how to do a quick tempo change in mid song. I'm not talking about the appearance of a tempo change like you demonstrated by cutting out snare hits, but a change like twice as slow.
PLEASE HELP! I downloaded this and a guitar plugin but when I go to add plugin it doesn’t show up, how to I fix this (never added a new plugin before in new)
Hi , great video 👏🏻i have a question , When I program drums with a keyboard I usually play a basic beat , Kick , Snare & Hi-hat. Then I play (on keyboard too) my open hihats , ghost notes & drum rolls, cymbals etc on a separate midi track, quantize later & bounce both tracks together into a wav, Is there a way to record the extra midi rolls etc all on the same track without wiping my basic beat ? Also what does the quantize swing button do ? Thanks
In Pro Tools, you can enable the MIDI Merge button. It’s right next to the click enable button, in the top right corner of the screen with the rest of the MIDI/transport controls. Quantize Swing adds a little bit of “swing” to the note, delaying every “and” in the “1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and” slightly
In Pro Tools (and most other DAWs), you can duplicate a selection, which "pastes" it right after what you selected. Here, that's done with the shortcut Ctrl+D (or Cmd+D on Mac)
be really helpful if you could do a walk through of the installation process of Contact as the manufacturer doesn't..its installed on my mac but the plug ins don't show up on pro tools, nobody on youtube has a particularly helpful video on that either -_-
I've downloaded the library and followed the instructions, how do I get it to appear in pro tools first like in the video? I still only see Xpand2 in my instrument menu
While I found the video to be somewhat helpful, instead of digressing into something like time signatures, you'd have been better served explaining every step of the process of creating the drum track, placement and synchronizing and copy/pasting - including what to look for in drop-down menus.
I am a complete beginner to Pro Tools and using midi. I am a singer songwriter. I found the video good from the point of view it shows me what can be done. But there was no explanation as to how to delete beats, or how to repeat a drum feel or rather duplicate. For complete beginners please go much slower and explain in a step by step fashion. I so desperately want to learn so I can record the songs I write.
For some reason when I open the midi editor it doesn’t let me hear the drums or put any notes down:( any help? I have the drums selected in Kontakt in the correct chann
When you put the first four kick drums down you didn't describe how to do it - step by step - the blue symbol is on GRAB but your icon is a pencil - is it double click to place the desired sound into the song ? Every step needs to be described exactly as it happens for it to be understood
@@longestsoloever thanks a lot - I'm very new to this - I appreciate your reply - I've downloaded Kontakt but it doesn't appear in protools - how do import it to the plugins, please?
i know this is late but that is probably because pro tools first only lets you use the stock plugins or the ones you buy from avid market place. if you have not bought one then it will either not show or will not let you click it. hope this helps if you have not figured it out already.
Thanks! Kontakt is a *super* powerful sampler, letting you map all kinds of drum samples to different notes, velocity levels, and more. It's a bit much to get into in a comment here, but there are a lot of tutorials on Kontakt around the web. That said, you'd need to full version of Kontakt to start assembling your own kits. Which DAW are you working in. Pro Tools?
@@longestsoloever Ah thanks for clarifying that, as I was getting confused between Kontakt player and the Kontakt sampler. I actually use Reaper, it does have a sampler built in but its quite tedious to use, I am now beginning to understand why Ableton is becoming a DAW of choice!
Yeah this video shows you how he does it, the *ONLY* thing missing is him explaining *WHAT* he does. like when he copies the drum beat while the song is playing, he shows he does, but does he tell how it's done? nooo - would have been kinda nice to know. Same as when he makes the drum beat he shifts from the main window to the piano roll again with explaining how. or when he change the volume of the drums he goes into another window but still doesn't explain what that window is or how to get there. So yeah you can use this to learn how to put your mouse on the grid and get a drum sound, but not much else.
Either go to your View menu and find the Inserts option, or switch to your Mix window, and right click “Sends” or “I/O” until you find a menu that’ll let you enable the Inserts.
FL STUDIO has built in sampler.. you turn it on and play. no need to make special midi, audio or instrument tracks. in fl studio everything goes together. send everything to mixer.. FL studio mixer has "wires" to route channels not the whole lot of 4 step click in routing to sends and returns like pro tools.. pro tools is such a dinosaur...
