This about Tama’s classic hardware kit that is designed to function and look like the 1950s & 60s Ludwig flat-based cymbal, hi hat, and snare stands.
This hardware is very similar, but a more up to date version of this classic design. It’s very functional and strong enough to work with my jazz and low volume rock playing style.
Now, if you are looking really strong boom stands and heavy metal hardware then this is not for you. But if you want stands that will be enough for your low volume gig, look very vintage and not break your back ... you found your next hardware package!
Equipment:
Gretsch - 8x12, 14x14, 14x18
Noble & Cooley SS - 5x14
Zildjian - 14" New Beat HH, 19" Kerope, 22" Kerope
Paiste Traditional 18" Flat ride
Tama Classic Hardware Package
Logic Pro X
Presonus StudioLive 24.4.2
OHs - Octava MK-012 (2)
Snare - MD 421
Kick - AKG D112e

Great video - I'm putting together a compact kit for gigging, and I think that hihat stand is just what I need to finish off the hardware for it. Thanks for the comprehensive review! PS - that old camco pedal is awesome

Thanks for the feedback Jake! This is some great hardware … yea I think it’s the Tama Camco chain drive, but I do have an old Camco strap drive like the old Gretsch Floating Action pedal too! I haven’t watch this video in a while! 😂😁🤘🏻🙏🏻👍🏻

johnsondrummer .... Michael I actually did the talking unboxing video ... but I thought it my be nicer with me talking about my kit concept, the stands, and actually watching me playing the kit with the hardware! I actually only did two takes of this song for this video. I’m releasing another version on this song before I got the stands ...someday!

Nice! I have a number of the Ludwig classic stands, and they have been workhorses for me. So light and easy to use. Never knocked them over playing rock. Interested in these new ones.

Very nice breakdown on the vintage looking hardware. I use Tama Iron Cobra pedals and hihat stand for gigs and they’ve never let me down.

It's the way to go, Earl. I think you only really need those big heavy duty double-braced stands if you're mounting a tom off them, otherwise all you need is a simple stand. These are just great! I use a similar type, but they're from the olden days. They wobble a little, but I don't mind that. It's not like they will ever tip over. Cool review, thanks for sharing. 👍
@earldrum

alan duncan thanks for the feedback! I agree, I don’t need the big stands using this kit for local gigs in town. If I ever get the big arena gig 😳 then I’ll pull out my drum rack or heavy stands ... which I’ll still use for bigger cymbal setups in the studio!

I think it's cool that you're trying to get back to a classic look and feel for your own reasons, but personally, I think the older stands are too wobbly and not sturdy enough for me...they are better for weight, but I like hardware that is strong and very sturdy...I think I have an older stand if you want it...it's probably from the 50's or 60's I would guess...great video!
@earldrum
@earldrum 5 лет назад
Michael thank you for watching! I would love to have your older style stand if it works! I’m not selling or throwing away all of my existing hardware, I’m just adding a very cool option to my gigging kit that I use for light acoustic music gigs! I have the big hardware for the big rock gig, but actually I’d rather use backline drums then carry a drum kit with heavy hardware!

Earl Bennett - earldrum the stand works but it’s in rough shape...it’s freaking old...couldn’t find a brand name...it might be from the 40’s

Do the cymbal stands take vintage cymbals with the smaller hole?
@earldrum
@earldrum 6 месяцев назад
Thanks for the feedback and question. I have an Istanbul cymbal with a smaller hole that does fit on the classic hardware stand, but not on some of my boom stands. But the threading is the same as Tama stand 8mm thread so I am not sure it’s as small a hole as your vintage cymbal.

I’m wondering if this stand will work with practice pads? Do you think a 10” pad would work? 12”?
@earldrum
@earldrum 2 года назад
The snare stand basket will hold a 12” pad … Tama makes a tom stand with a basket that would hold a 10” pad. The cymbal stands I believe are the 7 mm threads like most large stands made in Asia. I hope this helps.

Hi Earl. I noticed you having headphones on and jamming with an iPad. Are you playing, I don’t know what you call them, ghost tracks that are missing the drum part & if so, what is it called? Thanks
@earldrum
@earldrum 2 года назад
Yes, I’m playing a big band CD song / book. But my headphones are connected to my studio setup, not the iPad. The iPad runs my Logic Pro X audio.

Geeza ... I use these at my church every week ... we rock out no problem for 24” - 20” ride cymbal. I have a gig this weekend at a restaurant/bar with my rock band ... I may post some video of the gig ... it will be this kit and stands!
