Hi Andrew, Hi guys ! Just wanna thank you Andrew for having me in your channel !! It's honor to be feature here between all this legendary and amazing drummers !! Thanks for what you're doing for the drum here !! All my best..Friendly. Damien
Another great Paul Jeffries Damien Schmitt reaction! Love it! Andy, this is your 4th Damien reaction. 3 from Paul and one from me. I was the one that introduced you to him...totally pumped with Paul's requests he has become one of your new favorite drummers! :) He is on another level.....
Something I've noticed too, is how he incorporated some stuff from electronic music and drumming. This performance is not the perfect example, but besides his other incredible abilities, he's also a master of drum and bass, and he could really sound like a machine. Even the fills he does in these dnb performances sound like a machine, and he does some of that stuff on Africa here. I also read that he has played with some African musicians in his youth, which explains how he mixed effortlessly the electronic and the African. Damien is simply amazing! Thanks Andrew for the great video. Cheers from Québec, Canada.
The first clip I ever saw Damien Schmitt drumming on was on the Valeriy Stepanov video Seva Guzov four years ago and that is one mother to watch I can tell you!
Hello Andrew...Wow this was so much fun to watch..What he's playing and not playing just elevates this entire thing into a different class of drummer..And for some reason the way he did the tribal stuff and his note placement and yes stick path reminds of the solos Mario Duplantier plays..You did a few Mario solos Andrew and seemed to enjoy them ✌️🤘
The thing that messed me up on stick path for literally a decade was trying to mimic my kit to my favorite drummers kits. I had set up an exact replica of one of Portnoy's kits that I struggled for years and years to play on. Then, I met Mike at a meet and greet and realized a was at least a foot taller than he was and what worked for his setup simply would not work for me. You gotta create your own stick path, unless you have an identical twin that is a famous drummer LOL.
Your "burns unit" quip earned a sub, I read that one in the readers' Top Tips in Viz Comic in UK back in the (I think) 1990s, I'm curious where you came across it.
If I didn't know any better he's got allot of familiar... possibly Terry's student and taught him his Bozzios!? Hmmm...WHOA!! b4 9:59 then what happened there; that was quite the twist!!
Hey mate, It's the 50 year anniversary of led zeppelin's album houses of the holy. Would be absolutley awesome if you done a song by song review of the album. It's a killer album🤘🏾
Yep !! . Of the F*#!I~ charts, out into the wild blu yonda . quite easily the best thing (I've ) seen/heard this year or even , in a long long time . (he he,take us to the burns unit).
I use a few roto-toms on my kit, my 10" is tucked to the left of the hi hat like a floor tom so i can pitch bend with my left hand. im also a 3d modeller, ive been considering making a pedal to spin that roto-tom & pitch bend via foot leaving both hands free. should be pretty simple, but not sure if its worth it, mostly just for fun
Thank you. Interesting unique Amazing perc. drummer. As to playing fills around the kit; yes. Although can you play one beat and of song then switch and altern8 limbs; giving the same sound; but, no hiccup in the tempo; that's quite a trick in itself!? Hmm....
I can't remember if I suggested this before. But Josh Steffen's cover of Subdivisions is a must watch. He seems to be a lesser known drummer but his shot at subdivisions is nothing short of perfect.
Hey Andrew, you HAVE TO absofrickinlutely check out anything from Annika Nilles. It’s not really my music (prog fusion or so), but as a musician I absolutely respect her abilities!
wait hold up this guys awesome but is that another kit in the background I don't think Ive heard that one yet and again Mr Schmitt awesome grove man not my kind of tunes but awesome have a great day
@@AndrewRooneyDrums really amazing the guy composed all of that i thought for sure it was some tune he had made a drum part some talented people out there
Jesus H. Christ. (That's what she said) This guy is on another planet. Brother this is pure greatness. How dare you shatter my illusion of integrity. What about Danny Carey?
I'm so embarrassed Andrew, I never knew you could pitch bend on percussion. Locking myself in my bathroom as we speak in shame.. There is more than egg on my face.. LOL..
All very skilled, very flash and whatnot... but by halfway in, I was bored. Musically it's vacuous, the other parts serving only to provide the drummer with a platform to show off. I'd much rather hear a drummer absolutely shredding it up in service of a song that needs that power, instead of just fast but tedious soloing with fast fills all over the kit. Yeah, he's hugely capable... but can he play Smooth Criminal as tight as Sugarfoot?
Yes he can, you should to check him out with Jean Luc Ponty, as you know he is a fusion violonist and played with Zappa. He said that Damien is the best drummer he has worked with (and believe me he has worked with a Top drummers) , whatever making that compliment from the calibre of Jean Luc Ponty is not joke. So I can understand if you say that from speed power gore metal drummers..cheers
@@cuahutemoctorres3691 ...fusion... Zappa... these words do not mean good things to me. They speak of self-indulgent musical nerdery that does nothing to endear itself to the listener.
@@richardharrold9736 but you can not deny his abilities or skills, there are musicians who has worked harder to get this kind of musicianship Damien not only is a drummer, he is a musician and a multi instrumentist and singer. I suggest to you look more in his projects and listen intead of only you say that is not work for you. Give me a real conversation about hearing music or an example of other drummer that you like most and we can argue a lil
@@cuahutemoctorres3691 maybe, but this isn't musical, it's just noise. There are a lot of drummers I like, from unassuming timekeepers such as Dave Grohl and the late Stuart Cable, to technical masters like Neil Peart and Tomas Haake...
@@richardharrold9736 Yay!! You got it apples and oranges. Every drummer you listed to me was or is a great drummer serving for the music or for the songs as well as technically more proficient like Damien, Donati, Lang, Blundell etc. Joe Bonamassa loves Guthrie Govan proficient , Govan loves Bonamassa phrasing. For you this isn't music, For me and other ones (Included pro drummers think viceversa) so matter of tastes and for the listener. Carter Beauford is like N Peart, great keepers great drummers for their own bands but not the best soloist. And dont get me wrong I love every drummer you listed to me.
