Brilliant review, Nils is an absolute machine definitely one of the best if not the best death ,black metal drummer on the planet at the moment . In my opinion of course . Keep up the good work brother ✌️
Andrew I must say I'm pleased that this chaos at least earned your respect it is a style that's just getting crazier as time goes on and it's not going away lol alot of jazzers for years put their noses up at us and I think that just made us work even harder I'm retired from it all myself my last show was in 2007 but all these reaction videos seem to be popping up about extreme music and that's pretty freaking awesome
@@danmarshall5895 oh I agree no doubt. Hellhammer is one of the fastest drummers with his feet in the world. But I won’t take away from Gene Hoglan. He isn’t Hellhammer fast, but the dude has IMMENSE speed while wearing those. He’s such an amazing dude, I love watching him play.
Something that I want to know about you: This whole reaction channel thing has you spending a lot of time in music that you are not familiar with. How often are you listening to music that you don't at all like? Don't name names, but do you actually like any of this? Not throwing shade or anything, I think you and your channel are great.
@@AndrewRooneyDrums If you've come across enough questions to make a video, then why not? As long as you aren't being insulting then it should either be accepted or just ignored. I think that a lot of appeal to reaction videos comes from crossing bridges and seeing people from different walks of life appreciating forms of music that they may otherwise not be exposed to. I'm not sure that a video about why someone's favorite style of music isn't that great may work so well, but a video about what inspires you may. You could show the fanbase what great music caused you to bang on pots and pans and pretend that you were a drummer until you got your first kit and became a real drummer. That's why I kind of just wanted a response via text. Just a simple, "Yeah sometimes," may work better than a video saying, "Those bands that tons of people have been asking for kind of suck."
Gene Hoglan wears boots too but his power is just unmatched and using normal pedals. Not to mention the precision. The level of speed for that amount of time that Nils presents is nearly unattainable without the triggers
@@AndrewRooneyDrums Hello! I really like your videos, thanks for the entertainment! I might be wrong but I don't think you've done this one yet? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DQaETtF_dzQ.html
About the boots. My grandfather and his brothers had a band in the 1930's. They rehearsed in the cowshed and therefore had to wear rubber boots. And when they played gigs, the drummer was known to wear a suit and rubber boots because he got thrown off if the right boot shaft wasn't hitting his calf. =D
Dunno if anyone cares but if you are stoned like me during the covid times you can stream pretty much all of the latest movies on instaflixxer. Have been binge watching with my gf these days =)
The Dominator truly dominates! I'd love to see a reaction on Neurosis. It's rarely done and if you'd search for "Neurosis - Locust Star Live Ozzfest 1996" you'll know what I mean. It's a percussive dream.
that song alone is what got me into Neurosis, then Isis, then cult of luna, and now sludge has taken over my life. Such deliberate, clear groove. as far as "intention" goes for the idea of a band, I cant find a single thing to dislike about Neurosis. such
itsa daily practice and repeativness more so anyone could who put thjat time he did into it..also the gravity weioghntof sticks helpsalot in creating easy rebound that with time becomes easy task andwearsunot atalll.pralying fast is easierthan 85Bpm :)
Axis pedals are actually known for having a very light feel and almost only being used in combination with triggers (not that I'm against triggers, it's just a fact), Czarcye Kopyto or Trick are more of a heavy duty pedal
There are 5 main "heavy duty" pedals on the market right now that most players use Axis Longboards Czarcie Kopyto Trick Pro 1V Bigfoot ACD Darwin Pearl Demon Drive 90% of the extreme guys use one of these 5 that I mentioned. Anything else is a one off dude. James Payne uses Iron Cobras and can hit 280bpm+ but he's an alien lol
Can we get a reaction to one of the best black metal drummers ever and one of the legends. Hellhammer!! Never seen a reaction on him. He is a true legend in black metal and has played with pretty much every big black metal band... Emperor, mayhem, immortal, Dimmu Borgir...
I've been curious to see what drummers think of Proscriptor from Absu (now Apsû) but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any good quality drum cam videos featuring him.
They are heavy duty boots.. I have a pair that He autographed and gave to me. Thoroughly used and obviously the veterans of alot of concerts! Very cool!😀
Par to sub par drumming. @UCb6Gm5wU8Ar6e7R-168Khsw how about something different or maybe a song with some groove or feel to it . I believe you've maxed out on your speed metal head subscribers. As I've stated before im a huge metal fan but you have to mix it up once in a while .
Many thanks for getting to another Nils video! I'm glad that you say you can respect the art, even if you don't the music. and yes... I can't imagine up and coming metal drummers who needs to do gigs like this night after night.
On boots: I played in steel toed work boots for years. I started doing it because I was young and thought it was badass, but I kept doing it because the weight was extremely helpful for control. I eventually switched to steel toed sneakers, but I've thought about switching back lately.
bootsmakes easier this tempos. taking way more of the spring tension than trainers.axis pedals arent the slopy types and theypreform extremelly well at max spring tension.the same time resting your feet in heavy boots -super tension in springs takes that weight away -cpmp[ensate it and zeroes it-TAra.this way cost no effort to nearly twitch only tomake themplay fast and hit hard....i prefer heaviest possibole beaters plus stickls as gravity does work i spend years earlier trying to defeat and fight against :).aslo itsnot stamina based ath thispoint alsobut on ecopnomy of movement....on angles tensions of heads and weights that creating toirque and rebound...
Yeah the stamina needed to play black metal is crazy. On both the drums and guitar. I played in a death metal band for awhile and that took a lot of stamina. But I can't imagine playing a whole show with songs like these.
Speaking of boots, on the "One More Car, One More Rider" tour from Clapton and friends, Steve Gadd plays in these monstrous boots. You can really hear them on the River of Tears song from the live album. I think the video can be found on youtube too. But they are like these big ol' dirty kick-pedal smashers.
Yeah this is actually too heavy for me...I wish I enjoyed it but I just don't. I need a little groove. I'm more of a Alex Rudinger/Chris Turner kind of guy.
BE. CAREFUL. My subs have a tendency to get a bit too fast. If you keep subbing though, the rules have changed and you just start getting more handsome from this point.
@@AndrewRooneyDrums His recent work ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fVclJVgu4DQ.html but i think His drumming in the band ANOMALUS - Ohmnivalent CD from 11years ago is the most techical drumming in metal ever, so much stuff going on it is insane... i think you should listen to few songs :) I am an total amateur but that CD is insane, there are whole songs when drumming dont even repeat ;) my personal opinion that this CD is still to be beaten in drumming. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--zzw3oXHJTA.html
@@AndrewRooneyDrums Ya Krimh is part of the new breed of musicians that plays multiple instruments. He's a badass drummer. Plays piano, guitar and produces and writes his own music. He has his own albums where he plays most everything. My 15 year old son is quickly becoming one of these. blows my mind. I thought I was a descent drummer until I saw how quickly he learned the drums and then learned about 10 other instruments in short order. There's quite a few of these guys showing up on the scene lately.
Definitely on the podium of 'holy shit, thats fast as f#@k'. Not my cup of teas this type of drumming but damn this is impressive. Big fan of Gene and Frost but I'm not into the black metal stuff much more these days, so don't keep up with the new breed of drummers.
I highly recommend Gene Hoglan playing Skeksis. As other's have said, he's plays in boots (with flames), but keeping time like he does is a major reason people call him the 'Atomic Clock' and Skeksis is a great example. Also If you didn't know there is a blast beat named after him
The boots are kind of irrelevant in this context because the way metal drummers hit uses so much muscle memory and physics of the pedal it all boils down to what you prefer!
Well, he plays with that boots, Inferno from Behemoth plays with motorbike boots, , Gene Hoglan plays with weights and open boots, Jocke Wallgren from Amon Amarth plays with sports, and there are a few ( where I include myself) that plays barefoot. Choices are wide
He is not really a drummer that I find impressive besides for his speed, stamina, and regularity which are incredible. The important here is to create a cold wall of sound and he does that perfectly, not all drummers have to be extremly technical and play intricate things, the important is that it fits the music. I just can't imagine how he can hold a full concert at this speed, this is incredible. If you want incredible speed and power with a but more technic you shoud heck Kevin Paradis playing Sensory Amusia - Pain: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ejzkDhqAPJM.html
Axis pedals are known for their speed and typically used in metal drumming but there have been some Renown musicians outside of metal that uses them such as John Blackwell rest in peace. :') Axis have inspired a trend of longboard and direct drive pedals that came to be so popular again in metal majorly haha. Such as trick, czarcie kopyto, pearl demon drives, etc. But axis remain the definitive in speed! And probably the lightest. A couple musicians have their own signature models even such as George Kollias and Derek Roddy. 👌
@@troublednamed8054 not new, i'm familiar with the man and his work but watching that video things like the way his hair is moving and the denim is moving on his shoulders and the flow around the kit just doesn't look normal speed.
