"The crowd's gonna chew up 30bpm and they're gonna take you down probably a whole octave." I knew it was one of these reactions I got that from, and truer words have never been spoken.
You don't have to like the music but you cannot deny the charm of Babymetal. What Babymetal is all about involves the smile that inevitably crosses your face when watching them. I call it the "Babymetal Smile". This was recorded when Su (lead singer) was 17 years old. They just released a new song, Divine Attack. You'll need to check it out to hear what she sounds like at 25 years old.
I have no idea how the drummer is still alive. He kept going, full attack mode. I was almost passing out just listening to him keep going, my legs are sore. There is just nothing like babymetal. They are a genre of their own, and its just so damn catchy and heavy at the same time
Hidecki is one of the most powerful drummers I've ever heard. He becomes the mighty heartbeat during his tenure. And like you said in this song...how can any mere human generate such massive, emotive power? Incredible!
SUMETAL's stage presence is undeniable. You asked how long the band has been together. It's been about 10 years now, but, at the time of this recording, it was closer to 5 years. SUMETAL had those 22,000+ (sold out Tokyo Super Arena) concert goers under her charming command. Did you notice how she parted the crowd at the beginning, to make space for that giant mosh pit (which I've read, is very polite and friendly, as you predicted). BABYMETAL's stage presence only becomes rightfully respected when you realize that this show was less than 3 weeks after SUMETAL turned 17! YUIMETAL and MOAMETAL were just 15 at this performance!
Great reaction and good job getting this one unblocked, thanks! And good job noticing Su-metal putting back in tempo the crowd chanting too fast. Just a few noticed that and it seems incredible to me that being 17 years old at the time Su-metal already had this level of professionalism. Well, after all, she's been doing this her entire life. And congrats, since I believe you must have now a real YT 100K badge. 😁
⚡ 💀 💕 / 🏴 🏴 🏴 "Stand up and shout, Shout!, Justice Forever!" - (Road of Resistance) - Pretty much a master class in audience control. BABYMETAL believe that if a song sounds too much like one genre, then it's not a BABYMETAL song. You can definitely feel the speed metal in this one though. This performance was at Saitama Super Arena (SSA) in January of 2015, with a sold out crowd of over 20,000. BABYMETAL's lead singer, Suzuka Nakamoto first appeared at SSA in 2008 as the youngest member of the J-Pop trio Karen Girl's, when she was 10 years old. She's been back many times since, headlining with BABYMETAL. Guitarists for this concert were Takayoshi Ohmura and Leda Cygnus. The bassist was BOH, and the drummer was Hideki Aoyama. Hideki's father and younger brother were also drummers, so it's kind of in his blood.
BabyMetal, during the darkest hour of the pandemic, did a long distance colab w/ Bring Me The Horizon, "Kingslayer" Although it was only a Lyric Video, folks are still talking about it. It came out late in 2020, but not much was happening. I consider it as the '21 "song of the year".
Great reaction. This video was from January 2015 at the Saitama Super Arena. Su was 17, Yui and Moa only 15 and that was over 20,000 people completely under their control. This was also the end of a 90 minute concert and yes, they had been keeping that same energy up without any drop in quality for the whole time. It is what they do - they appreciate people have often paid a lot of money and travelled a long way to see them, they never give anything less than 100% for every song at every concert, whether that is one of their big arena concerts in Japan or at the many various sized venues as they tour the world. This was the official video, they actually cut that outro short by at least a couple of minutes (with Hideki and the Kami Band going at it non-stop) while the girls went to each different side of the stage to shout "We are ... BABYMETAL" with as many of the audience as they could get near to. As well as that long central bridge out to the small stage there were two more bridges at either end of the stage leading to a couple more small stages that they used at various points in the show. About 18 months later they sold out the Tokyo Dome (55,000 people) two nights running ... their stage there was spectacular. About the song itself. 'Road of Resistance' is a very positive song, I'm not sure the translation really works so well to convey what it is really about, but it isn't the usual "resist the machine or the system etc" that we might expect from the title. It is about forging your own road even where a road doesn't already exist, not necessarily going the easy way or following the path already made by somebody else, so if the way you want to go has never been trodden you may have to get past the resistance of the undergrowth, obstacles, hurdles and things blocking your way etc to find your own way. It could easily be used to describe BABYMETAL's own story - they could have followed the well trodden path of J-Pop and been very successful, but they chose to go with Metal ... but again they didn't just follow the same old format of every other metal band, they have done it their own way and it hasn't always been an easy route to follow. Herman Li and Sam Totman from DragonForce did the guitar arrangements for this song (it is the only one they were involved in) and recorded the guitars for the album version - this performance was all the Kami Band's interpretation of course. I will second includenull's recommendations for your next reactions: BABYMETAL - Ijime,Dame,Zettai - Live at Sonisphere 2014,UK (OFFICIAL) BABYMETAL | Catch Me If You Can (with Kami Band Intro) | LIVE at Budokan Black Night (HQ) and BABYMETAL | BABYMETAL DEATH | LIVE at Legend 1997 (HQ) [Intro subtitled] but to be honest I will second everybody else's recommendations for whatever other BABYMETAL songs they have added, they are all great - I'd have to think hard about which might be more drum oriented - maybe xDeleilax's suggestion for 'Kagerou' with intro.
I sometimes feel bad for reactors when they react to something like this, because there's always a bunch of people who have a text file open to copy/paste a wall of text with information nobody but the act's hardcore fans care about in the youtube comments.
@@markmckeown87 This isn't a full length wall of text - but I read all the longer ones as well. I like that he keeps it relevant to the content, he isn't one of those who just copy the same thing over and again regardless of what the reactor watched or said.
BABYMETAL trilogy 「Starlight」「Shine」「Arkadia」 watch me please Japanese next METAL BAND SEIKIMATSU 聖飢魔II vo. デーモン小暮(DemonKogure) 「Fire After Fire」 reaction please!
Enjoyed your reaction the supprised look as the girls took change of the audience and they can do this no matter where they are in the world . They also definitely better live as in there live . Not seen them since 2020 but just got my tickets for OAO Wembley Arena next April 😁🤘🦊🤘
Oh you made me laugh! I was going to say " polite mosh pit" too. Thank heavens some nations have respect and manners. We can all learn a lot from their example. ✌️❤️🤗
these censors literally have a hard-on for some channels. Seen one guy do everything and not get anything blocked while I watch another and every other one of his gets blocked. It's subjective BS.
Kami Band are gods of instruments but BABYMETAL as a whole are gods of crowd interaction. Su-metal, Moametal AND the Kami Band just engage the audience with natural flair and hard-earned skill. So far I've only seen them on video but I really want to catch a show for real - even a small one.
Great to finally have it released, on Reddit it said 10 months, auch ! Good reaction too. Can I say worth the wait ? You are right, a Babymetal pit is the kindest in metal. In Japan especially, but also still in Europe. In the US they attract some casual fans or even non fans who can be drunk idiots. So far closest Babymetal has been was a festival in Australia. 12:08 Funny thing is: their are 3 long stages at this show and they've actually ran over to all of them and thanked the fans, it was just shortened for the video .At Tokyo Dome second day, Babymetal's biggest shows, thus also biggest show, drummer Hideki kept it up much much longer and legend is that he had to be helped of the stage by his follow musicians or staff. I wasn't there, I didn't see it. 13:12 yes, lots of people like that in metal, who use the loud music and extreme vocals as an outlet for their anger or rage. It really has worked for lots of people. With other metal bands, some do end up in the moshpit and using that as a way to vent their anger, they are not appreciated. For some bands they are tolerated and sometimes even kind of expected though. Babymetal tries to give us a much happier kind of metal and it also has helped lots of people out of a depression, etc. Also Babymetal is a gateway band into metal. A metal with a softer side to get into first. Babymetal's rise in Japan has supposedly even increased the sale of other metal bands foreign and domestic.
Now that I've gone older, re-watching this I'm reminiscing this with teary eyes, still get the goosebumps after all these years :). By all means, please do come to their European tour in 2023 (if you're in Europe), SABATON will be there too :)
Nice reaction. Most of Babymetals bigger shows in Japan are full of stage theatrics. Makes them a lot of fun to watch. The Road of Resistance. Babymetal took that road. It was hard, dirty, rocky, unpaved, and mostly unknown with metalhead gate keepers. Babymetal paved it. Now thanks to Babymetal a lot of heads turned East to figure out what the heck is going on over there. Turns out. It was a lot. Now we have over the last 10 years new Japanese invasion. The last one was way back when Bands like X Japan and Loudness from Japan toured the world. Babymetal putting their own stamp in the metal world. Babymetals music is a Jpop vocals with heavy metal base along with whatever other musical style they want to use. Sounds easy but it turns out that it's actually kind of hard. Babymetal have made 3 albums this way and a 4th on its way in March. Rob Halford called them the monster ladies of metal. Which made them giggle. Because they're Kawaii metal after all. While the Kawaii part normally refers to the pop vocal and the dance. Sometimes it's just them. Here we get a fantastic combination of all of that. Plus the must have at every Babymetal show. The audience participation. The Babymetal fans are call the One. As in One with the band. Sometimes Su the lead singer will call for it. Like she did here. And other times they'll just point the mic at the crowd. Look for the many versions of Headbanger for that. Road of Resistance is a journey they took us on right along with them. Now it's your turn to go down the foxhole and into the Babymetal galaxy of music. Enjoy the ride.
Hideki Aoyama the drummer just might have legs made of steel springs😝 After a long hiatus Babymetal released a new song last week you might want to check out called"Divine Attack". But it's always fun to go back and look at classic BM like this song of which there are many. Megitsune, Karate and Headbanger just to name a few, you'll get many more suggestions from commentors I'm sure. The best way to experience this band is live just like you did here with R of R, live performances is where this band shines and thrive. they're going to start touring again early next year beginning in Japan so you might get your wish to see them live 🦊🤘
@@AndrewRooneyDrums Hm, if you are not aware of it, then I‘m probably misremembering and confusing it with another BABYMETAL reaction of yours. I thought I had seen it about a year ago or so.
syncopation or tales of destinies + the one for next reaction maybe? speak from drum technique i think those 2 song a good representation for babymetal. they capture the tenacities, technicalitty, tightness and fluidity of the musicians
This is your 2nd reaction of BABYMETAL live performances and is a good reaction. I enjoy it. You are also missing out for few years of enjoyment of their live shows and these crazy talented musicians. Please react more BABYMETAL especially the live versions. Thank you!
Thanks for the re-upload, you should listen their new single "Divine Attack - Shingeki" which is a blast and witness another new BM side we've never seen before.🦊🤘🔥
You’re not going to receive hate from most metalheads. You’ve described Babymetal perfectly. J-pop metal. (Edit they’re Japanese not Korean lolz) They’re a really good and highly respected band. They’re pioneers of their genre.
I love how the melody of this song is almost kinda very Green Day pop punk, combined with anthem type energy, and it had added constant guitar solos, hair guitar metal tones, along with the double bass.
Polite mosh pit is called mosh'sh pit. 😁 Suzuka is a true professional. She has been working stages since the age of 5. There are videos on RU-vid showing her performing as young as 7 years old. Her first pro gig was at age 10 as a member of Karen Girls before becoming a founding member of Sakura Gakuin, out of which Babymetal was born. The guitar tracks for RoR was arranged and recorded in the studio by Herman Li and the other guitarist, whose name I forget of UK metal band DragonForce. Side historical note; DragonForce snuck Babymetal on stage and performed "Gimme Chocolate" with them at Download 2015 after one of the event organizers put a pre-emptive ban on Babymetal ever performing at Download. The following year, BABYMETAL rocked the main stage at Download 2016 for 55,000 attendees. Kawaii conquers all! 🤘🦊🤘
Good reaction. SuMetal (the lead singer) has been on stage for more than 8 years despite her youth. In Japan, idols start very young (I think she was 8 years old and her companions were... 10?)
Now that you’ve seen two concert videos, I recommend their two biggest hit videos, “Karate” (I think it’s their best visually) and the song that made them famous, “Gimme Chocolate.” That’s the ultimate example of their pop metal formula. They are such a blast to watch.
Some people says this one sounds like DragonForce, and they are half-right since Herman Li & Sam Totman from DF arranged and recorded the guitars for the studio version of this one. Great reaction!
A pro who gets the croud back in tune who's only teenager. Nice reaction, nice to see the suprise when you see her get the crowd back in line with the chanting.
Amazing. thanks for reacting to BabyMetal . you will not struggle to find other amazing songs. Look at the Drum Solo in the live version of Kagerou. another drummer another genius.
Greatest RnR video ever. It's just so epic. Sus vocals are spot on, and Kami band us just awesome. Brings tears to your eyes. Welcome to the Baby Metal rabbit hole - it's so fun down here.
Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛, especially for re-uploading this. The crowd involvement (mosh pit, call & response, chant etc.) occurs wherever they go on this planet. In your video, Su shouted some words at 10:39 meaning "Bring them on!". Fans analyzed that the provocative shout was thrown at people who had been ignoring, underrating, mocking, hating and even trying to discredit BABYMETAL. That shout may have been necessary in 2015 but not any longer. She shouted it rarely since then. Last year (2021), on the final day (April 15) of 10 BABYMETAL BUDOKAN concerts, Su shouted the same words in the end-all of the show. She did it smilingly with matured, mild and friendly voice. It meant, I believe, "come on guys!" The audience smiled her back. I was there at the venue ヽ(^o^)丿
NEVER could figure out why Andrew did no more than one single reaction to the fabulous Babymetal !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ----Pleeeeeeeease look up the ( live !) concert of MEGITSUNE !----also Syncopation ,live.
I paid for this after it got blocked and don't regret it one bit now that it's been unblocked. Still a great reaction, man! Hope you do more BM soon :)
This is one of my favorites, because the crew of Dragonforce collaborated on it. Meaning two groups from almost opposite sides of the world came together and made it happen.
I saw Babymetal down the front in Tokyo when they opened for Gun's n Roses and then saw Gun's n Roses in the front in Australia three weeks later. Have to say the Tokyo crowd went harder. At first the Japanese were apoligising a bit but we got to know each other, gelled and had a blast.
Sorry to say Andrew but you are late to the show! "The show" is BABYMETAL! The story behind this is epic also. I've been a fan since 2015 and I still can't get enough! Su-Metal (we call her the queen of metal) was born to do this! It's refreshing, it's different, it's the best thing to happen to metal in a long, long time. The girls combined with the Kami Band is electrifying and I love the "shock!" I don't like every song but I do like everything they bring to the genre' of metal. "Kawaii Metal forever!"
Brilliant, if you don't put words in the sing along but everyone can join 😁 also she is a pro, ofcourse she handles the crowds like a Pro 🤣 I always exercise my demons through music, that's why I have very fit demons 😇
As a professional drummer, I think you would find interesting their song "Distortion". Their drummer went totally god mode in that song, i have never seen anything like that.
So this video gets often blocked, so I don't know if you can keep it up. Usually other reactors had to tweak the video a bit to keep it up, like lowering the transparency of the video, or adding a watermark on top of it! If it gets taken down again, you can try one of those things and upload it again
Hooray. Finally unblocked. Maybe Amuse are finally going to chill out on reactors? Babymetal's live shows, especially in Japan, are legendary for how grand and theatrical they are. Seeing Babymetal live is not just seeing a band play, its seeing a stage production. Its what sets them apart from almost any other band.
You might already know this but the instrumentals for this song was written by Dragonforce, i believe it's Dragonforce playing it on the album version aswell!
Painted In Exile - Eddie DeCesare "DM" Live Drums Performance Video He is tight and heavy. Progressive. And their song writing is so good. ... and always to name Federico Paulovich - Destrage - My Green Neighbour - Drum Play-Through
I always felt this sounded very Dragonforce. Catch me if you can in my opinion is their best song and definitely their best choreography. The song is absolutely magnificent!
This is such a good live performance, i absolutely love this band. Didn't care much for the 3rd album, as (in my opinion) it lacks the crazy, fast, hysterical and downright weird stuff they did on the first two records which i play really regularly. In fact, Babymetal is a band both me and my 7 year old daughter enjoy, she does entire dance routines and sings along phonetically, it's awesome. Couldn't be more proud :) Fantastic band as well, can't wait to see them live once. They're coming to The Netherlands next year, but just as support for Sabaton. Which probably means 30 minutes, and really scaled down because the Sabaton tank is in the way... Hopefully they'll come back for a full headlining tour. Great reaction, as usual!
Nice to see this one finally make it to RU-vid! I hope this is a sign of things to come and you react to some more from BABYMETAL. I'm not sure what I could suggest that would be of particular interest to a drum teacher, maybe Akatsuki. There are of course some great performances from BABYMETAL in general. These are titles of videos on RU-vid: BABYMETAL - Ijime,Dame,Zettai - Live at Sonisphere 2014,UK (OFFICIAL) BABYMETAL | Catch Me If You Can (with Kami Band Intro) | LIVE at Budokan Black Night (HQ) and this very special performance too: BABYMETAL | BABYMETAL DEATH | LIVE at Legend 1997 (HQ) [Intro subtitled]
@@AndrewRooneyDrums Let's just say they love to gatekeep and when Babymetal first came to the scene, some metalheads were being overly dramatic saying things like it was going to kill metal. But just like with Nu metal, it brings in more metal fans and keeps it alive, and hey we got System Of A Down out of that wave.
@@SlainByTheWire one of the reasons I like this performance so much! SUMETAL slips a little jab at their naysayers in there. At one point, near the end of this song, she yells out, "sorta o motarasu" which translates to "bring them on!" To me, this song, specifically this performance, was BABYMETAL's declaration of success, in spite of many obstacles and all the naysayers. They traveled the "Road of Resistance" and we're standing/dancing up on that stage as successful victors!
Welcome back to BabyMetal. Hideki is a monster on the drums. You’ve reacted to another BabyMetal drummer… Anthony Barone. Good decision to react to live performances. If it can be helped, always react to live performances.
3 little Japanese middle-schoolgirl rock stars. Babymetal live performance is something so special. They're small but each of them is an unstoppable force, a power house, they're flag bearers of their generation!
Yah, Babymetal came originally from a school for pop idol girls. Thats why it sounds so pop-y because these girls were trained in pop, and pretty much weren't even introduced to havy metal until their producers had the idea of making a mix between pop idols and heavy metal
If you want to see Babymetal live in the UK, they are supporting Sabaton in April 2023. The Fox God has blessed me a ticket for Cardiff on the 16th, I hope you can get the same blessing too!
I'm with you, i'm also not a moshpit person. But all guys and girls (fuck the age and every other status) were nice to each other and focused on fun and helping each other out. I never experienced a metal concert or festival with more then 0.001% dumbness aboard. Keep rocking girls and guys (as already stated, fuck the age and status) |..| |..|
