We can disagree and still love each other unless your disagreement is rooted in my oppression and denial of my humanity and right to exist. -James Baldwin
I play this performance every few months as I find it inspiring and musical and not in your face speed chops...but they are there. And her kit sounds great. Great technique.
Really really enjoyed her solo. So highly musical with a tremendous sense groove and time. Well structured in all and just a joy to listen to..even if I'm not a drummer..a bassplayer. Just don't care what her opinions are - folks.. This is about MUSIC - I don't agree with her, but she is still among the top level of players. This age of internet is amazing but one less good thing is we also get to know things about artists and musicians that we may not't like. Does that make the art less valuable? I mean we really don't have a clue about the personalities of the great artists throughout history, that we hold high..I'm pretty sure lots of the maestros in art and music back in history did things or said things that many of us would disagree with strongly. Art is art - as is musicianship in my opinion. If you disapprove of this womans opinions, don't listen to her or surf to something else. You will always find the likes that you disagree with where ever you look. We know for a fact that for instance the great musicians Miles Davis and James Brown didn't treat their women, in any way good (much due to how they were raised)..but I wouldn't let that negative aspect get in the way of their music and my enjoyment of the same. I loved your reaction to this solo Garey, thanks for the post!
@@butuh1324 I’m into being pro-White and pro-America and advancing my nation by any means necessary. What you call racism is more than acceptable to me.
@@chevelleman88 So my comment was 100% correct. Got it. But I’ve got to tell you, everything she does as a musician was created by Black people. It might be nice for you that you found a drummer who openly shares your racism. But don’t kid yourself about how the art of drumming evolved. It is a creative discipline based entirely on the artistry and genius of African Americans.
I don't care for ostinato based solos but I do like the way she does it more than I like anyone else. It's like she's showcasing he amazing limb independence, but I'd love to see her just cut loose, because she obviously can.
Politics aside, Hilary is simply a phenomenal drummer. My roommate at the Armed Forces School of Music in 83, she blew everyone out of the water. Great to see you're still giving it hell, Hilary!! ---the other Jones
I'd love to see your reaction to her racist outburst last June that led to everybody dropping her from their rosters. I think that would be more worthwhile...
It's a shame people just call someone a heretic then try to destroy their lives, close their bank accounts, make them lose their livelihood. She is empirically right, even if it's a bitter pill to swallow, and you have other groups making claims like that and in many cases taking violent action, yet movies primed us to be anti white and support anti whites, so we cheer and give them funds. This woman is brave and more of a counter culture artist than any of the shills who fancy themselves as rebels.
@@nerosmith2578 You see attacks against racists as an attack against you personally & by extension all white people because you are racist white supremacist. & you can stop quoting empiricism, there is no science to back up your bigotry.
Drum Artistry As a guitarist i know the importance of good drummers & that she is despite the hate filled comments you will soon see on all her clips. Their hate is worse than her comments . Great review. If Lee Ritenour & Robben Ford picked her to play with them & Robben on her CD that's because she is that good .
Don’t personally care about her politics and stance. This is still one of the greatest drum solos I have had the privilege to hear/see and was a big influence on my playing when this MDF was first released.
@@lewfarkyy By that logic Whites shouldn't like the majority of modern Western music, because almost all of the artists have made anti white comments/content at one point or another. Difference being that the numbers give her the reason, and the comments about "White supraimcism/ privilege" are utter nonsense, all while getting praised, marketed and funded for shilling by the status quo, whilst being a rebel like her will get you in trouble, she is one brave artist.
