One of the best videos I’ve ever watched! Sebastian Robertson is the son of Robbie Robertson - of The Band fame. As a retired geography teacher, I love the international cohesiveness this video has.
This gave me chills all the way through. Not only is this for a good cause, but it is also showcasing so many different cultures, coming together, speaking the same language. Music. We are all on the same team. Much love for this one. Thanks professor!!
I love how that's so much of the drums and bass in this version that you almost *feel* more than you hear, it adds such a feeling of depth to the sound
You don’t often see Uralic people represented, so it was nice to see Elle Márjá Eira from Kautokeino ( Guovdageaidnu),Norway.. which is in the old Finnmark county. She performs in the band Snoweye with John Paul Jones and Lucy Parnell ( Led Zeppelin, Them Crooked Vultures). I have Uralic/Finno-Ugric ancestry myself and a lot of cousins in Troms and Finnmark.
Definitely need to check out Tedeschi Trucks Band. Derek Trucks and wife Susan Tedeschi both child prodigies who met while Derek was with Allman Brothers and Susan's band was opening for them. Love at first note. They have 2 drummers and Derek's uncle was Butch Trucks original drummer Allman Brothers. His brother Dwayne Trucks plays drums with Widespread Panic.
@@AndrewRooneyDrums Yes they've had 2 amazing bassist; Tim Lafabvre(sp?) and Otiel Burbridge brother of Kofi the organist/flutest.This is an amazing live version of "BOUND FOR GLORY" 2012 Mountain Jam Festival. Epic organ solo with heavy bass and Derek joins in ad libs playing off each other's vibe. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-epAGY4hdQG8.html Also if you go back to Derek Trucks Band drummer Jarico Scott was awesome. He played with an infectious joy here's a couple. "I'D RATHER BE BLIND CRIPPLED AND CRAZY! Also great ad lib back and forth between Derek on slide and Kofi on keyboard/organ ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iSbcpLLadX0.html Susan Tedeschi w/Derek Trucks Band "ANYDAY" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jiwktkw_rqE.html or "LITTLE BY LITTLE" Susan lead guitar on this one epic ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-R9I6lQNK6Ok.html
Also a little bit about Playing for Change Project. Originally began as non profit with artists donating time and talent and proceeds going to support street musician's and schools for the arts around the world. So successful they expanded into other causes as well. A couple suggestions with great drum/percussion: "BIKO", "GET UP STAND UP", "GIMME SHELTER" and "SOUL REBEL" great music, great cause.
Thanks for the review. I have loved this video and it gives me chills. Music can change hearts and minds. PS. Sebastian Robertson is Robbie Robertson’s son.
I’ve watched this at least half a dozen times. John Paul Jones apparently chose all the musicians himself for this. PFC do great videos with tons of great drummers (and other musicians) from around the world.
Lol. It figures that John Paul Jones knows such a diverse group of musicians. I remember him once saying to aspiring musicians that they should listen to everything because you never know where you’ll pull inspiration from.
Playing For Change is an International foundation promoting peace thru music, their work helps build music and art schools around the world, and they are well known for making videos like this. I HIGHLY recommend looking up their versions of The Weight w. Robbie Robertson & Ringo Starr and Listen to the Music w. Tom Johnston By the way, Sebastion Robertson is Robbie's son, he's a regular producer for PFC
@@AndrewRooneyDrums It's one of my favorite songs ever, PFC doing The Weight with Ringo Starr and Robbie Robertson is a must see, even if you don't review it.
Another drum heavy Playing For Change video you should check out is "Biko" in addition to Native American and Japanese drummers, among others, it includes Peter Gabriel and Anjelique Kidjo on vocals and Yo Yo Ma on his cello.
The woman with the native look and tattooed face gave me chills hitting that high register Plant part. Incredible! Btw, the choice of “When the Levee Breaks” for an environmental cause is very appropriate. Perkins is a favorite of mine. Jane’s Addiction and his other projects are game changers.
I'll be that dude and say that the Ghostbusters shirt is awesome. Great version of a classic Zep tune, Bonzo would be most proud. Michael Lee was incredible with Page & Plant too, may he rest in peace. Ditto Jason Mackenroth formerly of the Rollins Band (unrelated, but bringing Michael up made me think of Mackenroth, may he also rest peacefully). Perkins is an animal, he nails this song to the floor!
Michael Lee was introduced to me via the Page/Plant tour video at Irvine Meadows that I should have attended but foolishly let life get in the way. He killed it - R.I.P. ML
Andrew you have picked a masterpiece. This video is wonderful! As is these artists.... Everyone in this video is a master of their craft! EPIC... Great stuff...
Good morning Andrew, Wow this really got me going...I was unfamiliar with some of the musicians, like the singer/guitarist sitting outside in front of some old out buildings but the overall playing is so spot on and almost a bit sludgey and doomy in parts....Thx for turning us on to this..Peace....
PFC started as a project to promote street musicians, hence the name “Playing For Change.” They started out recording one street musician, then brought the recording to the next musician, who recorded it wearing headphones to hear the already recorded music. Then so on down the line, each musician listening to everything that had already been recorded. They took all the recordings back to the studio for production. The videos were great and did a fantastic job highlighting tremendous talent all around the world. It wasn’t until years later that big names started joining in. Frankly, while it’s great hearing the big names, I kind of miss hearing all the relative unknowns, knowing the videos could help their careers. Still, if they’re raising money for a good cause, and they can raise more money with the big names, then that’s ok. And we get unbelievable videos like this one.
tedeshi trucks are awesome..you must check them out..and like the allman brothers they have two kit drummers..look for idlewind (an allman cover) and also look for allman brothers the sky is crying featuring derek rucks incredible solo as well as warren haynes'..you will not be disappointed x
Thank you Andrew for putting this up and making everybody aware of playing for change I love the video of course I love the song and I love the variety of musicians it's about climate change something we all need to be aware of !!!✌️
You should check out Playing for Change’s version of The Weight. Like this song, it was done as a 50th anniversary of the song tribute. It features Robbie Robertson and has Ringo Starr on drums.
Recently came across your channel and love the content, big fan of the Blake Richardson videos. If you ever wanna do another blake one, I recommend obfuscation. There's a great studio recording video of it on youtube as well. Cheers!
Andrew, Is this too much or what? Great song and so much talent performing. If you love Zeppelin you woo LOVE this video!!!....... I am spell bound by this. video and all of the artists!!! Andy this is your channel - talk as often as you like! It sounds like you live in a beautiful part of the world.. Take care...............
You should by all means investigate Tedeschi-Trucks Band...amazing. Check out "Anyhow" or Midnight in Harlem" , both amazing songs. Also, Playing for Change, Carlos Santana, "Oyo Como Va" . Lots of interesting Latin drums.
I'm a PfC, yes yes fan for years now. You have to know that PfC's version are often better than originals 🤩. Led Zep, Marley, Gabriel... a ton of songs. More than amazing !
Love your channel. Not sure if you take recommendations from comments, but I find the drum part of Keep the Faith by Bon Jovi quite interesting. Thanks!
Sir, I can asure you, that the council of the international Red Cross, UNICEF, the Department of Education of the US and other organizations would not cooperate, if PfC wasn´t kosher. The famous artists in the videos of PfC work for free, so that the money goes to Music and elementary schools all over the world. Some famous artists even work with the schools, as Paula Abdul and many others. You Sir, be safe. Elmar from Germany, paying member of the PfC organization.
All fine musicians, but this version just doesn't do it for me. I heard the boys play it live back in the day and it was truly epic. Zepparella comes close with their studio version featuring Anna Kristina on vocals and harmonica. That vid has 19M views, so it seems a lot of others agree ;-)
It was in Chicago. Not certain of the year, but around 1975. I believe it was the first tour they did with a laser light show. It was used to highlight Jimmy Page during Dazed and Confused.
