Drummer Girl Kanade Sato Drops FT (Reaction) 

The name of this tune is “Drops” and her father arranged the backing track for her and she used this song to win the “Hit Like a Girl” competition when she was 12!

Hello there Old Mr B. I have watched a lot of her videos. I first came across her playing when a video cropped up on my feed entitled " The youngest Jazz Fusion drummer" she was just 6 years old at the time and was playing on stage with a tribute band called Andoromeda. These guys play the music of a Japanese Jazz Funk fusion band called Casiopea who still exist today. RU-vid has a history practically of her rise to fame if you like, at various age groups. She has since played with different professional groups in japan including a trio called 'Ear Candy Jazz Factory' which consists of a young guy on Piano a young female bass player and Kanade on drums which have CD's out. She has done many solo drum performances in front of a live audience. she also has been involved in demonstrations for Roland electronic drum kits. I do know that her Dad is a drummer also. But you are indeed correct about her professionalism nothing phases her in the slightest. she does have a youtube channel but I think you said that you have checked it out already. Although she is mainly involved in a more jazzy type genre, she can play other styles of music and there is much evidence on youtube to show that. She is 17 years old soon to be 18 I do believe. And I told you so! Remember i mentioned Kanade? I think it was when you first reacted to Yoyoka. Kanade is technically maybe the finest japanese drummergirl. The incredible Kanade Sato from Japan, I follow her for some years she is over the possible, look at the orange bell on left feet, it is absurd, in my opinion, she is the best female drummer for the future in the world, there are some jams of Kanade in jazz with the reaction of important drummers, they do not believe possible for her to play in this way. She is not too much popular because she does not play rock, but only jazz fusion and progressive

Kanade Sato plays in the trio Ear Candy Jazz Factory, which has an album out. Of her solo videos like this, I think the Dave Weckl covers are some of the best. One of the other top young Japanese drummers (slightly older) is Senri Kawaguchi.

Olympic opening ceremony in Tokyo would have been an amazing breakout gig for her.

I like Kanade. On top of being humble and shy she is loaded with natural talent and versatility and keeps the rhythm well. She always has spot on timing through the change ups. She is no Senri but we really don't need another Senri, one is plenty. My take on these young drummers is that they are practising and entering competitions at an early age, building knowledge and experience, as they become young teens they then start playing as session musicians, mastering their skills until at late teens the majority then move into bands. There is also the problem for younger musicians as not being able to go into many venues because of their young age. Being in a band at such a young age has to give way for family & education above all other things. I don't normally comment on drum vids MR B cos i'm not an expert. So what sounds good to me might not sound good to a pro. So I'll say "That sounded good" & hope I'm right.
