Also, come and follow my twitch channel! / williampowrie My reaction and thoughts on MGLA - Exercises in futility! As always leave a comment for the the next one!
@@n8wolf575 I listen to a lot of black metal. Have since around 99. Admittedly, I am not as informed about Mgla as I would like to be and have always meant to dive deeper. I like Atmospheric stuff like WIITR, Woods of Desolation, Summoning etc but my taste usually leans more toward stuff like Horna, Watain and Beherit. I'm usually solid about categories and subgenres so apologies if I lumped them in a genre they aren't a part of.
Metal drummers seem to forget that cymbals are an instrument and it's really nice to hear someone work them in a really musical way rather than just trash splash accents and ride bells in the 3rd and 4th bar. These guys are fantastic. Oh, and it's black metal. Put whatever sub genre you want I guess, doesn't matter.
"A lot of people get asked if they're drummers, musicians or artists... this guy is a musician." Very well said, and I'm sure the drummer here (Maciej Kowalski) would thank you for saying so. Great video.
Other than the double bass getting just a little off in the beginning he played this masterpiece and then gave a humble two finger salute and quietly walked off of the stage. Such a damn good drummer. His balance and posture is perfect as well. The element of his drumming I like the most is that it is so tasteful and meaningful. Everything he does means something. One of the few drummers in extreme metal whose playing hits my soul.
This drummer is one of the my favorite, he deserve much more love and recognition!!! He play in two bands Mgła and Kriegsmaschine! Very talented musician!!!
The funny thing is that, back when Kriegsmaschine was the "main project", Mgla was better than Kriegsmaschine and now it's the other way around. Don't get me wrong. Mgla is great but the latest two Kriegsmaschine albums are a little bit better.
Great choice. I haven't seen a drum cam video but I highly recommend IV of the same album. So dynamic and all over the place with cymbal patterns all over
First time I saw him play I thought he had his sticks reversed, they looked so beefy. If you have not seen it already, he has a new video up, rehearsing the first song of their latest album, and it has got bells for days. Check it out!
Somebody once commented 'oh it's just a paradiddle diddle combination..nothing special' but I say the whole song as a composition is beautifully layered. Even though it has faster 'bling' parts they are not overly heavy and not taking away from musical value of the song
Also, this drummer from Mgla released drum play recently on his channel, the rehearsal of song from newest album, calls Age of Excuse I, and it's sure more interesting in terms of cymbal work, so you might wanna check it out too!
Darkside is a phenomenal drummer! I highly, HIGHLY recommend checking out the band Ulcerate and drummer James St. Merat, one of the absolute best in the scene next to another I recommend being Lille Gruber of the bands Defeated Sanity and Ingurgitating Oblivion.
This is new age atmospheric black metal. This dudes are very influenced by early Enslaved material and a lot by Burzum. Obviously they are much better in production and as musicians than early days of the genre.
@@zypherdrums8102 they're a black metal band btw. You'll find a lot of tasty cymbal work in black metal. That and a shit ton of blasts. If you want to see some of that then I'd recommend checking out Nils "dominator" Fjellström - Vobiscum Satanas drum cam.
You shoud check out Chris Turner from Oceans Ate Alaska. He is also not focusing on footwork but playing very intricate rythms with some nice snare work. very much to recommend
sorry for beeing late, but have you checked Dan Presland? 'NeObliviscaris - As Plague flowers the Kaleidoskope' ist a great song to check out his drum work.
100% must check out residual blight, by kriegsmachine. Same drummer, going so nuts that he had to put out a video on his RU-vid channel of him doing part of the song to prove he didn’t layer it
Band i s awesome, I appreciate your technical approach to the drumming by Darkside. Your comment " what is this witchcraft? " made me laugh. Try to pronounce it as MGUA and you will be pretty close to the correct way of saying the name of the band which means FOG in Polish. Cheers.
The genre is black metal. You can tell by the mid paced tempo and dissonant riffing that doesnt try to "show off" with any fancy lead guitar. Of course there is black metal which plays at blistering speeds (Dark Funeral, Mysticum, etc), but typically black metal tends to focus on a mid pace tempo. In terms of drumwork, this would be considered very fancy for a black metal group. Usually the drums would be either programmed digitally/drum machine, or are very simplistic.
I certainly will be putting some videos up soon, just waiting a few more weeks until my neck/shoulder has fully healed as I suffered nerve damage in June!
i highly recommend you check out to check out gene hoglan playing The Philospher if you find this man's drumming refreshing in metal. he doesnt play the same genre, but i think you will dig it nonetheless
the two members of mgla have another project called "kriegsmaschine" its another, darker breed of black metal with equally tasty drumwork the band is nowhere near as popular as mgla however, so i doubt you can find a live video of dksd (the drummer) playing it live, but on his youtube channel he has a section from one of their most popular songs, its quite spicy ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Lah0bDDe3Zs.html
Black Metal! Go listen some Dark Funeral, Necrophobic, Mayhem, Immortal, Impaled Nazarene, 1349, Marduk, Absu, my mates Aussie band Mazikeen, another Aussie Black Metal band Nazxul, Beherit, Satyricon, Emperor, Burzum, Destroyer 666, etc... 😅
Should try Batushka, another original Polish band with crazy drums (there are drumcam videos). Sthg from Litourgiya or Panihida albums, as after band split their vocalist kept using the name. But his efforts don't do justice to the "real" band still run by the guitarist who is the composer
They're black metal group from Poland. Polish finest, I would say. As usual, cool to hear your opinion. I'd propose something more from Danny Carey - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8KJFE8E3MpQ.html here is his Triad live performance. Shitty quality, but worth watching nonetheless. He also has some nice vids playing with Doug Webb's jazz group - here's a teaser solo video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-A1b7vueKsv8.html Cheers!
He isn't just going spare. He's going spare WITH PRECISION! Could this be someone who has had "masterclasses" with Kai? Because as I watch him, I have to think of Kai the way he moves. Who IS this guy? And give Tank The Tech a nudge. He does a lot of tech based reactions on YT, and he really wants to have other YTers to connect with.
Hi Zypher, thank you for that reaction! Is there any chance we see a Eloy Casagrande - Desperate Cry drumcam reaction? From band name Sepultura? It's really great play and also song, you might check it out and maybe do a video, i promise it will don'tdisappointed you! Peace!!
Hi. You should give this one a listen - Emperor "Ensorcelled by Khaos". If so, you need to find the one that is on the page of the bands drummer Trym Torson. Its videoname is Emperor Drumcam Rehearsal Ensorcelled by Khaos
