Thanks to our patron Arnie, we are back with The Left Banke.. Ever since I first heard "Walk Away Renee" it has stuck with me tremendously. I get such a melancholic feeling when I listen to them. This song included now too... so much longing. I can feel it. The piano and vocals are great. The vibe is strong. With The Left Banke you can't go wrong!

Michael Brown was only 18 y/o when he wrote this song and "Walk Away Renee". How in the world could he write such profound & beautiful songs at that age?

I believe that he was 16 when he wrote them. :)

Love this song-as a teenager when it came out it was so different and romantic sounding

I requested this of many. You, Lee have answered and I am stoked. This is one of those songs that once you hear it, you will rejoice every time you hear it again. Well, that’s my take.

Such a pretty and sad song. Loved it at age 13 and still do at 70.

Written in Lydian mode which helps give it that melancholy and haunting feel. !6 year old Micheal Brown in love with his bandmate's girlfriend Renee Fladen. Heartbroken teenager.

This song and “Walk Away Renee” were written by pianist Michael Brown about his infatuation with Renee Fladen-Kamm who was the girlfriend of his bandmates Bassist Tom Finn.

I've never heard this before! Wow! I love it. Never knew they wrote Walk Away Renée, thanks for that... love the oboe in the middle and it makes me think of I Can't Let Maggie Go by Honeybus (1968).

If it's Baroque, don't fix it.

I came across your reaction to "Even In The Quietest Moments" today and really liked your analysis and subscribed. I decided to start going through your playlist to listen to all your Supertramp reactions from your first to the latest and then gradually listen to your other reactions that I want to watch to catch up in the coming days. But when I came upon this one I had to watch it immediately. I absolutely love this song and usually listen to it once or twice a week. The music is so haunting and the crazy part of the song is the lyrics. It's the fact that not one of the lines in the lyrics rhymes with each other and I'll bet a majority of people listening to this song don't even realize it. I just noticed it recently myself even though I've known the song from the time it was released.

Amazing group during their short-lived existence. Lots of "splinter groups," one of the best being the shorter-lived "The Beckies."

The Left Banke never recorded a bad song. They have a pretty extensive catalog. If you like Mike Brown's songwriting, check out his work with Stories, The Beckies and Montage. Any questions? Ask me. They were friends of mine. They have all passed away.

Compare this song to Boston's More than a Feeling and you'll find the similarity in the lyrics. "Just close my eye and she'll be there" and "I closed my eyes and she slipped away."
