Well, even though I had a terrible night and lost 6 videos (livid) but here we are.... the final 3 songs of "The Ninth Wave". Thank you to our patron Lee S for showing me this wonderful album. She is remarkable. Truly. I was moved by "Hello Earth" in so many ways.. This is a special piece of art. It really is.

Try to imagine being an astronaut, looking out a porthole at earth and just covering it with your hand. Then simultaneously being back on earth, getting out of your car and looking up and seeing an object streaking by. You, observing you. She then goes on to write about the helplessness she'd feel because she can't warn all the people about to be swept away by a massive storm. Only she is capable of this range of feeling and expression. Kate doing Kate stuff is something to behold.

To call Hello Earth a song, seems so farcical. It's like a movie soundtrack and more of an ethereal other worldly experience that washes over you. I love listening to this album in the dark when I'm in bed almost asleep, it transports me to other places. Kate Bush is very special, shy girl who never showed any interest in fame and fortune, so she's always done her own thing, writes all her songs, plays piano, sings and even sings her won backing vocals, produces all her own work too, very experimental and imaginative, some of it works and some is too weird on first listen but the weird stuff does get better over time with multiple listens.

I really appreciate that you actually listened and "felt" the songs, the lyrics, the music from "The Ninth waves", as most youtubers that do react to "the Ninth wave" say things like WTF was that, I don't get it!! They don't want to "go deep", I suppose. Hello Earth is my favorite, as according to the story of her "lost at sea" and "thinking she is "slowly dying" all these songs express how and what she is feeling, thinking, "experiencing" and to me, from the lyrics of Hello Earth she is "looking down at the earth, seeing "storms gathering", "her spirit, her soul is "rising" and for a wee bit of time she is ""In the deep Universe looking down at earth" as a kind of "what death might feel like' but then she "awakens" and "The Morning fog" is about how she was rescued, she survives and she is expressing how grateful she is to be alive,>"I kiss the ground" and she tells her family and "loved ones how much she loves them". The Ninth wave is quite an experience and ride isn't? I've been listening to Kate Bush and the "Ninth Wave" for almost 40 years and still have never tired of listening to it. Even back in the 80's most people that I knew and who were my friends and family had never heard "The Ninth wave" the 2nd side of "Hounds of Love" until they heard me playing it and they still had no clue...even then. The only person that took the time to listen to it with me back then was my Dad, he was cool that way, he would go into my bedroom and get out some of my albums and then play them in the living room. He loved The Ninth wave and Kate Bush, he was mesmerized by it. He and I were alike in that way. plus he was a Pisces like me, so he loved music and was sensitive and open to all kinds of music. We used to sit out in the back yard late at night and he would point out all the stars and galaxies to me.. I still miss him but I have the wonderful memories and the good things "he taught me about life".

Kate takes us on this journey from a small boat lost at sea to the depths of hell to outer space and every place in between and makes it a path to remind us to tell those we love how much we love them. It would be an absolute amazement if it ended at "Hello, Earth" but "The Morning Fog" transcends all that has come before. That'll do, Kate.

Kate is a true artist, painting 4-dimensional art. Hello Earth features the Georgian traditional 'Tsinskaro'. In Jig Of Life the shipwrecked woman has an encounter with her future self, who is ugently telling her to hang on to life. Kate's mother was Irish and throughout Kate's career the Irish influence is very noticable in her music. The poem at the end of Jig is performed by her older brother John Carder Bush

When I play the album now I still get that that reaction and it has not dimished. She really is a beautiful genius (inside and out as some one said below) and such a humble lovely person. All the many many people from musicians, dancers, technicians. engineers etc she has worked with in the industry you never hear a bad word about her. Nothing but praise, admiration, respect what a joy she is to work with. I must say your reaction moved me.

Aside from Kate's first couple of albums, this is a fairly easy listen. I love it, it's brilliant, but she digs even deeper on Sensual World and The Dreaming. Red Shoes and Aerial are also bangers, an emotional and kaleidoscopic tempest of sound, sonic dreamscapes.

Thank you for your heartfelt and genuine reaction to the remainder of the masterpiece that's "The Ninth Wave." If you like challenging music, then I can certainly recommend Kate's previous studio album, "The Dreaming," which is considered to be her most experimental and the 1st one where she was the sole producer. Or you go back further to the album before that "Never For Ever" on which Kate was the co-producer and the first time that she employs the Fairlight CMI. This was Kate's first UK number 1 album. In fact, it went straight into number 1. Or you could go back to the very beginning with her first album, "The Kick Inside," which for a debut album is of extremely high quality and sold over a million copies in the UK. Wherever you decide to continue within Kate's discography, I'm sure that you will find it to be a rich and rewarding experience. Have fun.

@L33Reacts BTW in Kate's discography "Hounds Of Love" is Kate's fifth studio album. There are five more studio albums after this one. Although, one of them consists of mostly re-worked tracks from a couple of previous albums together with another basically rewritten song. Two are two other albums "Before The Dawn" a recording of Kate's performance from her 2014 concerts of the same name, then "The Other Sides" a compilation album of 12 inch mixes, B-sides, covers, together with other songs. I do think that your plan to work backwards from the "Hounds Of Love" is a very interesting idea and I look forward to see and listen to your reactions.

@L33Reacts That's a great idea, and there's no fear of encountering an Embarrassingly Callow Debut Album, as her genius was fully evident from the word go - The Kick Inside is one of the greatest debut albums ever as far as I'm concerned. Her second album, Lionheart, is an interesting one, as it was widely received as a bit of a disappointment after that extraordinary debut. Most reviewers found it rushed and the song quality not as high. But all that aside, it's still better than most artists' best work, and has some magnificent songs, like In Search Of Peter Pan, Wow, Hammer Horror, and the title song, which is beautifully poignant.

"The Big Sky" on Side 1 is the pop take on all things flight (awesome video with Kate giggling at the 'special effects' rain), but much of Side 2 I would describe as progressive folk. "Hello Earth" (her voice producing almost an ambient mood) looks at the sky from the space side, inspired by moon landing astronauts accounts of how small and vulnerable Earth looked from even a short distance away. Still awesome almost 39 years after release. Goodness I'm old.

Hi Lee and thanks again for this further look at "The Ninth Wave." Now that you have finished it I guess the next question is where to go next with the one and only Kate Bush. You could do a lot worse than just flip over as it were and do side one of this magnificent album - that side is filled with very ear pleasing radio friendly (but still a little bit strange and skewed) songs. Otherwise I guess the time will come when you have to tackle "The Dreaming" and its thoroughly deserved fearsome reputation. As for this album, among other things, it was favourite of Prince. Metallica were listening to Kate when they were making "Masters of Puppets" and given the timeframe it is near certain that they were listening to this album. (although considering Cliff Burton's fondness for her music they might also have been listening to "The Dreaming" or "Never For Ever"). Regarding "Hello Earth" Kate Bush worked with renowned classical composer Michael Berkeley to arrange that choral in the chorus. Berkeley said of this experience that Kate Bush had told him, “while the key of this chorus would need to relate, it could arrive as something foreign, harmonically a surprise, as though from another world.” Berkeley would go on to say “I soon realised that Bush was pretty exacting on the precise fit of the "non-fit". Indeed, she was thrilled when I suggested we create our own new language for this chorus of the spheres. […] musicians like Bush […] are far more demanding of themselves in the studio than classical musicians can afford to be, and will spend days working on a tiny fragment. […] Come the recording day, a group of male choristers, more accustomed to singing church services than backing vocals, descended on Bush's home, which was equipped with its own studio. Doubtless they were imagining that they were about to meet a wild-eyed rock babe, but Kate, quiet and unassuming - the kind of sympathetic, slightly shy girl who greets you from behind the counter at the local chemist - introduced us to her friend the bass player Del Palmer, who engineered the session. None of the singers [...] had ever gone over and over four or five phrases so exactingly. No measure of Bach or Mozart had, in their experience, been subjected to such surgical scrutiny, and I began to worry that their voices might begin to tire. But Bush knew and got what she wanted and Hello Earth is, I think, a remarkable track.” Thanks again. I enjoyed this tremendously.

@@L33Reacts Hi Lee, "The Dreaming" puts hairs on a young boy's chest and makes a man out of him. It's a bit like being charged by an angry bull elephant - exhilarating so long as you come through it unscathed! Just be sure to listen to it with the volume turned UP. There are things on "The Dreaming" that you hear where what you think you hear isn't actually what you are hearing. For me personally while I don't think is her best album I do have to say that the run of songs from "Pull Out The Pint" through "Night Of The Swallow" might just be the best run of songs of her entire career. Whatever you do, listen to the final track, "Get Out Of My House" on its own - inspired by Stephen King's "The Shining", it is a study in turning paranoia and madness into music, where your own mind and body (or in this case Kate's mind and body) is the haunted house filled with that paranoia and madness, and you won't ever have heard anything quite like it before. I would also suggest listening to the opening track on its own, just to ease your way into this rampaging monster of an album. See you on the other side - be sure to "let the weirdness In" (don't worry, you understand this when the time comes).

He reconnected with hi Mom when he was @ 16 and then she got run over by a police car. Liverpool was a matriarchal city; it was a seaport town and men worked on ships and were gone a lot. As others have hinted, "The Morning Fog" really comes into its own when you've just heard the rest of the suite.
