Well. I promised y'all something from "4 Way Street" and... it's mostly all Captain Crosby I think! And he absolutely nails this. He is so good at these love tracks. An unreleased Byrds track that was first recorded by Jefferson Airplane and then CSNY. Then the Byrds track came out 20 years after the recording date lol... but what a song...

4WAY STREET I remember buying this when it came out. I was completely captivated. I must have played it for hours everyday. Crosby’s voice is so pure and his vibrato is perfect. He never disappoints. This group as they were with Neil or just the 3 were the greatest blending of voices in music history. And to think they just came together by accident.

You have to hear Grace Slicks version. It's gorgeous. It's on Crown of Creation album by Jefferson Airplane.

Grace was also in a Triad with 2 members of the airplane at the same time. Grace is great, but the emotion from David put him over the top!

One of my favorite live performances of anything. Crosby doesn’t get enough credit for his guitar playing. I’m in awe of his vocals.

David Crosby had an amazing voice. Not only could he sing a hauntingly beautiful song but when he was singing in harmony, his voice would blend in to the point where you can barely hear it but the song sounds less rich without it. A great talent lost.

the "American Dream" album from the late 80',s and "Looking Forward " albums by CSNY are pretty cool too. CSN did many records together throughout the 80's and up while doing solo albums in-between. Check out more about these talented men. There is more and more to explore. Life is for learning. Joni said that. ✌️♥️🍏

L33, you should try Crosby's solo album. "If I Could Only Remember My Name". This tune would've fit beautifully on it, but you will find his friends like Joni Mitchell and Jerry Garcia jamming at his house in the mountains of Big Sur, California. Only Pink Floyd could get me high without the use of drugs like this album did with cuts like "Music is Love", "Traction in the Rain" and "Cowboy Movie".

Check out Crosby's first solo album. "If I Could Only Remember My Name". Full of some great tunes like Music Is Love with Neil Young, Cowboy Movie with members of Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane. Also songs like, Traction In The Rain and Laughing.

Assuming it’s not to late, 2 long songs from the electric album, Carry On and Southern Man are amazing, the trading guitar licks between Steven and Neil is some of the best I have ever heard. But Steven Stills doing 49 bye byes on the acoustic disc will blow your mind, it’s by far my favorite song on this set. The message still rings thru ( I’m not 100 sure but pretty sure it’s just him with bass and drums. 4 way street is one of n all time favorite albums, I have had it in vinyl, cassette, CD and streaming.!!

Personally, I like The Byrds' version the best. It's a bit faster (although still basically a ballad) and more concise, but the point still gets across pretty clearly, and it's got great drumming by Jim Gordon. The song didn't really get Crosby fired from The Byrds. There were internal problems within the group, and Crosby was one of them, trying to take over the helm from Roger McGuinn and (by his own admission) being a general asshole. The band was falling apart during the Notorious Byrd Brothers sessions, Mike Clarke quit partway through (which is why Jim Gordon is on half the album), and Crosby's song about a three-way was seen as being deliberately provocative by McGuinn and Chris Hillman - they'd already been annoyed by Crosby's impromptu rant about the JFK assassination onstage at the Monterey Pop Festival. So Triad's exclusion from the album got Crosby worked up, he in turn refused to sing or play on the song Goin' Back (which did make the album), and soon after McGuinn and Hillman went to Crosby's house and fired him.

Based on 4WS/other stuff I've heard from that touring period, these four spent a lot of time doing "schtick", between songs - a whole lot. I'm guessing that a lot of changing and/or fixing tuning was going on.
